Chapter 37: 13 Multiple zombies, a supernatural case?
Chapter 37: More than zombies, a supernatural case?
After leaving the science exhibition hall, Lynn Hall did not take Gwen home directly.
Instead, he took her for some physical examinations first.
After all, Lynn wasn't 100% sure that the spider that bit Gwen was the same one that made Peter Parker Spider-Man.
After doing a comprehensive check and confirming that Gwen was fine, Lynn finally felt relieved.
The test data and blood samples were completely destroyed to prevent Gwen's blood samples from being leaked after she became Spider-Woman.
Only then did Lynn drive Gwen back home.
Back home in Queens, Uncle George was still working for the police department.
Aunt Helen told me that Uncle George is currently investigating a group of drug traffickers from Mexico, so he is working even on weekends.
However, Gwen felt very sleepy after returning home, so she went straight back to her room to rest.
While chatting with Aunt Helen, Lin En's cell phone suddenly rang.
He picked up his phone and took a look, only to find it was Special Agent in Charge Rich Hood calling.
Ever since he decided to retire next year and take up a sinecure, he has rarely been involved in cases!
Many cases passed through Lynn Hall's hands, and then either Lynn led the investigation or handed them over to other assistant special agent supervisors.
So when Lin En saw the call from Richie, he went back to the room and answered it out of curiosity.
"Lin, there's a mission you need to lead personally. A major incident has occurred in a small town under Oswego's jurisdiction. According to intelligence, all 1,300 residents of this town have been transformed into zombies overnight."
"The specific reason is unknown. The surrounding police have already blocked off the town. Meanwhile, someone has spread the news online, and it has been viewed over a million times!
"Originally, Miller Field wanted to bring people to investigate, but I think it's best for you to take over this case. You understand what I mean."
Hearing Richie Hood say this, Lynn laughed and said, "Field wants to show off through this case so that when you take on the consulting position next year, you can take the position of Chief of Special Agents!"
"Haha, so Lin En, you should take over this matter!"
At this point, Richie Hood's tone became more serious: "The director also means the same thing. Miller is capable, but he is too serious."
"Tsk, over 1,300 lives! If we don't handle it properly, it could lead to big trouble!"
"understand!"
Listening to the subtext of Rich Hood's words, Lynn Hall smiled and said, "I'll take people there right away!"
After hanging up the phone, Lynn Hall sent a message directly to Sean Alice and others.
Richie Hood's meaning was very clear. More than 1,300 people turned into "zombies" overnight.
Moreover, the matter was spread online and had millions of views, so it was impossible to conceal such a thing.
Therefore, he must investigate the "truth" that the people want to know before things get out of hand.
As for what the real "truth" is, it doesn't actually matter!
After notifying Sean and Alice, Lynn Hall left the room.
Before leaving, I went to see Gwen and found that she was sleeping soundly and had no signs of fever or poisoning.
Lynn then drove away.
Two hours later, outside a small town called Carlan under the jurisdiction of Oswego!
At this moment, the town has been completely blocked by the police, and the virus, disaster and fire departments have also arrived one after another.
Looking from inside the car, the town in front of me looked very strange, as if it was divided into inside and outside by a police cordon.
Inside the cordon was a thick fog, and from time to time one could see one or two figures stumbling through the fog. Outside the cordon, however, the air was clear.
Even if there was a slight breeze, the thick fog in the town would not disperse at all.
"What a strange town, Boss! Are we encountering some supernatural event?"
Looking at the clearly divided scene in the town, Sean asked curiously.
"I don't know, but we'll know when we go down and take a look!"
As he spoke, Lynn Hall took off his gas mask and got out of the car first, then walked towards the blockade.
Seeing that the boss, Alice and others had all taken off their gas masks, Sean followed suit and got out of the car.
As he walked behind Lin, Sean whispered to Alice, "Alice, why did the boss take off his gas mask?"
"What if it's some weird virus that's spread through the air?"
"Idiot, didn't you see that over there on the cordon, none of the county police, firefighters, and other disaster relief personnel were wearing gas masks?"
"If it really was an airborne virus, they would have been finished long ago!"
After hearing Alice's explanation, Sean nodded.
When they arrived at the blockade site, the leading county police officer immediately came over and signaled Lin En and others to stop.
After showing his FBI ID, Lynn Hall looked at the sheriff and said, "I'm Lynn Hall from the FBI. From now on, I'm in charge here!"
"Tell me in detail what happened here!"
After checking Lynn's ID, the sheriff said, "Here's the thing, Mr. Hall, this town has about 1,300 permanent residents."
"Everything was normal until last night, but this morning a thick fog suddenly filled the town. Overnight, everyone in the town lost consciousness and was acting entirely on instinct."
"However, even though the people in the town were unconscious, they didn't set foot outside. We don't know the specific reason yet, so we can only seal off the town."
After hearing the sheriff's story, Lin En glanced at the figures wandering around in the thick fog in the town and asked, "Who was the first person to discover the scene and call the police?"
"It's me, Mr. Agent!"
A tall county police officer came out and reported, "My sister and her family live in this town. Since last night, I haven't been able to get through to her phone."
"I drove here overnight because I was worried something might happen, but when I got to about three kilometers outside the town, I found that I couldn't find the way into the town no matter what, so I kept..."
"Wait, you're telling me you were driving last night and couldn't find your way into town?"
Looking at the wide road in front of him, Lynn Hall frowned.
"Yes, Mr. Agent!"
In response to Lin En's question, the county police officer nodded and said, "I find it strange too. After driving here, the road into the town seemed to have disappeared out of thin air and turned into a wasteland."
"The car was surrounded by thick fog, with visibility less than two meters."
"Because I'm very familiar with this town, I can usually drive to my sister's house even with my eyes closed. In order to prevent any accidents from happening at my sister's house, I want to force my way into the town."
"But the car lost power in an instant."
Having said that, the county police looked at the town in front of him with some fear and strangeness.
