Chapter 21: Shadow of the Church
"This potion is the same one I've taken!"

Poro used the form of a bishop, holding the notes he found on the table in the secret room in one hand, while comparing them with the medicines on the wooden shelf.

"What medicine?"

"Your grandmother said it's a mixture of Wild Stimulation and Demon Corruption potion."

As Poro spoke, he picked up a glowing reagent bottle and sniffed it.

"What about the other potions?"

Lake took a quick look and saw many types and quantities of medicines on the wooden shelves around the room.

"I'm still identifying them, and I think it's best to put aside what I recognize."

Poro glanced at the potion notes in his hand and placed the two reagents he recognized to the side, "It seems quite a few of them are poisonous."

"So this bishop is an alchemist in addition to spiritual magic?"

Lake stopped looking at the potion bottle and began to look through the books in the room.

Although it is a secret room, its scale is even larger than the room outside the bishop. In addition to the torture instruments that satisfy the bishop's evil taste, it looks more like a secret laboratory.

"I didn't realize this devil is such a talent. While doing evil things, he's also doing scientific research?"

Poro took out another yellow test tube, the medicine inside looked like flowing gold.

Poro narrowed his eyes and read the notes from the notebook:

"Golden Armor Skin Potion, effect: invulnerability to swords and spears..."

"Invulnerable to swords and guns?" Lake on the side was stunned.

"Yeah, it's a good thing we launched a sneak attack. If it was a head-on battle, this guy would have been prepared, and it's hard to say who would win!"

Poro closed the first notebook and then set his eyes on a book stained with a little blood.

When it was opened, it turned out to be an extremely bloody and detailed "human experiment log".

"Tsk, were all the bodies carried by the porters killed this way?"

Poro shook his head and looked at Lake, "This 'Bishop' looks much more like a witch than your grandmother."

"Hey! Don't compare my grandma to this scumbag!"

Lake raised a book in her hand, as if to throw it over. "Forest magic doesn't need to do such cruel things!"

"Well, my bad."

The Poro shrank back. "Did you find anything like the Bishop's spiritual magic book among the books you have there?"

"No, but... I found something that might be related to the witch hunters."

"Witch Hunter?"

Poro's eyes narrowed. After the death of the bishop, this "witch hunter" became the most powerful enemy.

And the body of this witch hunter is definitely thousands of times stronger than that of the bishop!
When Poro thought of the terrifying figure that walked out of the forest storm that day, he felt a little at a loss as to where to start.

"What is it? Is there a witch hunter weakness or something?"

"No, it seems like a...magic contract?"

Lake pulled out a scroll from a pile of books. All the words on the scroll were shining with a light red luster in the dark.

And at the bottom of the contract, there were two names written.

It is the real name of the bishop and the witch hunter.

"Magic contract? What's that?"

Poro thought for a moment, then asked, "Can we use a magical contract to kill the witch hunter directly?"

"I'm afraid not. The magic contract will only take effect on the person who breaks it."

Lake recalled for a moment and continued, "And even if this scroll is destroyed, it won't have any impact. It's just a carrier and witness of magic."

"That's it..."

Poro felt a little regretful.

But most of the time, strong people don't have any obvious weaknesses.

Even if the hunter has some kind of weakness in his martial arts, he will definitely not let others know.

After all, things like Agnus's Heel are just wishful thinking in mythology.

"Then... what is the content of their contract?" Poro was not discouraged. He saw that in addition to the signatures of the two, there were also a lot of densely packed text on the contract. It was obviously an extremely detailed contract.

There can be no true friendship between such wicked villains as the bishop and the witch hunter.

The only thing that can make them join forces is a strict and hard contract!

"This contract... should be about a permanent alliance agreement and a short-term contract."

Lake looked at the contract and read it slowly.

Although she did not know magic, she was able to read this special contract text under the guidance of the forest witch.

"The content of the long-term contract is quite ordinary. It's a non-aggression pact between the bishop and the witch hunters. In other words... no matter what the circumstances, neither party should have any thoughts or actions that would harm the other party."

"That's pretty routine."

"There's another part. The witch hunter needs to protect the bishop and collect potion materials for him. Besides that, the bishop can designate one person every week for the witch hunter to kill, but there are many restrictions on this person."

"How come all of this is beneficial to the bishop?"

The Poro thought for a moment. "What about the other contract? The witch hunter part?"

"The bishop needs to provide the witch hunter with the potions he needs, including those for combat, as well as a special potion for special needs..."

"Special potion?"

Poro vaguely grasped the key point.

Providing potions in battle is not equivalent to being an unpaid thug of the witch hunter's strength.

The most special bargaining chip should be the "special potion" written at the end of the contract.

"What potion?"

"Will-Forging Potion, a potion that...greatly enhances mental resistance. It must be enough to resist the effects of a certain 'Root-level' curse."

After hearing this, Poro pulled out the thickest book from the bookshelf on the side. The title on the cover was "The Ultimate Magic Alchemy" and the cover was already yellowed.

Obviously, the bishop's attainments in alchemy most likely came from this.

"Will-forging potion... got it."

Poro observed the side of the book and opened it to a place where a leaf bookmark was stuck. On it were the formula and effects of the relevant potion.

"This is a high-level potion. The ingredients are extremely rare and difficult to collect. The main ingredient... is the heart of the forest?"

When Poro saw this, he was stunned for a moment.

He discovered that in the recipe for the Will-Forging Potion, all other ingredients had been circled by the bishop, leaving only the main ingredient, a potion called "Heart of the Forest," empty.

"Heart of the Forest?"

After hearing this, Lake's face turned grim. "Those are materials only possessed by forest witches and some other special forest spirits!"

"So, this is why the witch hunters are going to kill your grandmother?"

Poro also thought of this. "But... what are the effects of the root-level curse? Is the witch hunter cursed?"

"It's not stated in the contract, but it seems the witch hunter can confirm whether they will still be affected."

"If there's too little information, it might be useless. The only thing we have over the witch hunters right now might be... intelligence, but even that's far from enough!"

Poro closed the "Principle of Alchemy" in his hand, and the witch hunter would probably be back in a short time.

In this case, studying Potions is obviously not a good choice.

After all... Poro and Lake don't have the ability to remember everything they see, and Potions is not something that can immediately improve one's strength after learning it.

What's more, there is no clue here about the spiritual magic of the bishop that Poro places his greatest hope on.

"Puro, what should we do next?"

"More information, more helpers. What we know is still too little, just the two of us."

Poro put the "Essence of Magic Alchemy" back on the bookshelf, took the "Living Experiment Notes" that the bishop had taken from him, and stuffed it into his arms.

"Where can I find that information and...help?"

"The dungeon, where the bishop placed the experimental subjects—that is, the dungeon where some people were imprisoned."

Poro fixed his gaze on the inner wall of the chamber, where a bunch of keys hung. "Some tortured good people, and enemies of the Bishop.

There are people who know more secrets, and hopefully they can... still help us."
