Chapter 127 Arrival
Tanes' words stunned Dain. He subconsciously glanced at Thorin, asking in his eyes whether Thorin knew the general named Latan.

Thorin shook his head slightly. He knew Neferi Lu, Bernard, and even Roger and D, but he had never heard of a person named "Latan".

Could it be a fellow Tanes who just arrived in Middle-earth?

Thorin thought as he gave Dain a confused look.

Dain noticed Thorin's look, coughed lightly, and spoke directly to express his concern: "Tannis, I know that the one who can lead this legion must be a brave general, but no matter how powerful he is, there are at least thousands of goblins in Raven Hill. I am a little worried about relying on only your general and a group of Red Lion Knights."

"Ah, don't worry about that. If our opponent is the same as Tanes described, then no matter how many goblins there are, they will not be a match for Lord Latan and us." A carefree female voice came over accompanied by several footsteps.

Dai Yin and his companions looked in the direction of the sound and saw a muscular woman wearing a helmet.

On her right followed a Red Lion Knight and an old man whose beard was almost as long as the dwarves'.

Freya, Oga and Jellian, when General Latan is away, the Red Lion Legion is commanded by these three people and obeys Tanes' orders.

Dain and the others immediately realized that these three were also powerful warriors. Thorin's eyes moved slightly and he asked, "Tanesh, who are these three?"

Tanes stepped aside, motioning for Oga and the other three to come over, introducing them. "The one who just spoke to you was Freya, the Royal Knight of Latarn. The one with the longer beard is Jerlian, the Lord of Latarn. The remaining one is Oga, who has followed Latarn in battle for many years."

Freya found a place to sit down casually, took off her helmet, revealing the same honest and strong face underneath.

Then she noticed everyone else was looking at her and waved her hand. "Hey, why are you looking at me? You guys keep talking. Don't count on me for any brainpower. Once you've figured it out, just tell me where to hit, who to hit, and how to hit them."

Oga was similar, but he still maintained the etiquette of the Red Lion. He did not sit down directly like Freya, but nodded to Dain and the others, then stood behind Freya and Jellian.

Jellian came to Tanes and said to Dain and the others, "General Latarn is not here right now, but when he left, he left me with full responsibility. Lord Tanes told me the situation here. Do you have a detailed map of Riverdale? Do you know where it would be easiest to break in?"

Thorin nodded, stepped on the bench, and spread out the simple map drawn by Balin on the table in front of him.

Originally, Balin and his team wanted to find out where in River Valley Town needed simple repairs so that they could come and build defensive fortifications later.

Unexpectedly, the goblins suddenly broke in, and this simple map turned out to be a good tool for attacking River Valley Town.

Thorin leaned over and pointed at two places on the map that Balin had circled in blue ink. "One of these two places is the original gate from Dale leading to Lonely Mountain, which was destroyed by Smaug when he attacked. The other is this section of the city wall..."

He glanced at Bard subconsciously before continuing, "This section of the wall was built by humans back then. Therefore, it's more severely damaged than the other areas we helped the dwarves build. It can't withstand the shaking."

Jie Lian nodded: "What about the enemy's defense?"

Thorin shook his head. "No, the enemy is goblins. They don't even think about setting up defenses. They just rush at the enemy. If I show myself before them, they might come out of Riverdale and hunt me down."

Bard, who had been silent the entire time, spoke up at this point, "But there are too many goblins, and they're tiny. Besides the houses, Balin even mentioned they're digging into the wells. I think the biggest challenge in River Valley isn't how to break in, but how to completely eliminate these goblins once we're inside."

Dain nodded in agreement. "Bard is right. I don't want to be on guard against goblins emerging from the well or toilet behind me and throwing rocks at me while I'm fighting Azog."

After hearing this, Jerlian let out a hoarse laugh. "Killing all those little creatures that like to hide in the shadows? That's a job we in the Red Lion Legion are very familiar with. Don't worry, after this valley town is captured, no living goblin will be hiding there. I promise you."

After hearing what Jeremiah said, Freya and Oga also smiled with confidence.

This made Thorin, who saw this scene, curious and asked: "What method are you going to use?"

Oga, the Latan veteran, said briefly and forcefully, "Flame."

"Fire?" Bud repeated subconsciously, then reacted and said immediately, "That won't do. What if a fire destroys River Valley?"

Before Jerion could say anything, Tanes spoke first, saying to Bard, "Don't worry. In my hometown, the Red Lions face a unique enemy, so everyone in their group is a skilled user of fire. They definitely wouldn't simply set Riverdale on fire."

Freya also said, "Yes, those goblins are no more troublesome than annoying bugs."

After they finished, Thorin said thoughtfully, "So now we just have to wait for my father's army and the General Latarn that Tanes mentioned to arrive before we can officially declare war on Azog?"

Dain snorted, "Azog has already declared war on us. It's time we punch Azog in the face."

Thorin smiled and said, "You are right. Riverdale and Ravenhill are like the front teeth of the Lonely Mountain. Let us break Azog's front teeth."

Gandalf, who had been listening silently to Tanis's discussion with Thorin and the others, finally spoke up. "I don't think we should just wait in Lake-town for Thráin and Latarn to arrive. Azog will surely trick them into coming to the Lonely Mountain with some sweet talk. If those goblins head towards Lake-town, things will get complicated."

Dain shouted in confusion, "What's the problem? Even if the goblins come, we won't be afraid of them!"

Jellian understood Gandalf's meaning and said, "My friend, Lord Tanis, probably meant that the enemy named Azog might just want to see the goblins and us fight first. In their eyes, the goblins are not their soldiers, but cannon fodder designed to consume and strain our strength and energy."

Thorin volunteered, "Then I'll select a few warriors to patrol outside of Lake Town. If we find goblins approaching, I'll lead them away and then come back."

Bud frowned: "But won't this put you in danger?"

Thorin said frankly: "This is the responsibility I should bear."

Tanes coughed lightly and said, "I will let Aegon follow Thorin to protect him. It happened to be Aegon who killed the Goblin King. Those goblins must have remembered his face. It might attract their attention even more."

Then why didn't you say it earlier?

Thorin raised his eyebrows, his Adam's apple rolled up and down, and he seemed to be hesitant to speak.

However, he had already spoken, so naturally, there was no way he could go back on his word. Fortunately, the goblins seemed to completely believe what Azog said, and only stayed in the ruins of River Valley Town and Raven Hill, not going anywhere else.

The most miserable thing these days is the rats and insects in the ruins of Riverdale Town and Raven Hill, which have been almost eaten by the goblins.

It's a pity that Tanes and the others didn't know this, otherwise they would have just waited in Long Lake Town and waited for these goblins to die from lack of food.

At dawn three days later, General Latan arrived as promised.

The early-rising fishermen in Changhu Town had not yet cast their fishing nets when they heard a whistling sound from the sky that they had never heard before.

Come again?

They looked over curiously, feeling that they would definitely not be shocked like they were a few days ago when the Red Lions arrived.

After all, it is too troublesome to jump into the lake in such cold weather and fish out the fishing net that accidentally fell out of your hand.

Then the fishermen opened their eyes and mouths wide, watching the war machines that covered the sky and flew towards Changhu Town. In the front of these war machines, there was a strong man flying in the air with his hands on his chest.

That was Latan. He was not riding any mount, but was suspended in the air, surrounded by powerful purple magic fluctuations.

Those war machines included huge battering rams, ladders, catapults and crossbows. They were controlled by Latarn's gravity magic and moved slowly in the air, like moving fortresses.

The front end of the battering ram was equipped with sharp iron corners, the ladder of the ladder truck gleamed with metallic luster, the huge stones of the catapult flew through the air, and the crossbow arrows of the crossbow cart glowed coldly.

All the humans and dwarves in Changhu Town were shocked. They stopped what they were doing, walked out of the houses, went to the streets and alleys, or stood on the towers, staring at the scene in the sky in amazement.

Thorin, Gandalf and others were also standing in the crowd, their faces full of surprise.

When everyone was speechless, Bilbo Baggins broke the silence.

The adorable hobbit looked up at the war machines in the sky, scratched his head, and said, "This is more spectacular than anything I have seen in the Shire. It seems we have come to the right place this time."

Then Bilbo stood on tiptoe and patted Bofur and Bombur, saying in a light-hearted tone, "If I had known we'd have to fly so high in the war, I should have replaced my bacon and toast with gingerbread for breakfast. But really, these instruments float much more steadily than old Mrs. Took's tea-party cakes. Oh, you don't know Old Took yet. When the war is over and we get back to Hobbiton, I'll introduce him to you."

The hobbits' jokes brought Thorin and the others back to their senses from their shock.

As if responding to Bilbo's teasing, Latarn suddenly released the gravity magic control over the war machine.

A group of war machines weighing thousands of tons suddenly fell down, the women screamed and hugged their children tightly, and the dwarves reflexively rushed to the nearby houses for cover.

However, these war machines all froze three feet above the ground, and the purple gravity magic halo spread like ripples, gently lifting each machine.

"Don't worry! This is our ally, General Latan from the Golden Tree. He comes to kill Smaug!" Bard's voice sounded near the dock, comforting the somewhat panicked townspeople.

Afterwards, General Latan slowly descended with his war equipment and landed steadily on the ground outside Changhu Town.

The soldiers of the Red Lion Legion, who had already noticed the arrival of General Latan, quickly stepped forward, set up the war equipment, and were ready to go into battle at any time.

"Wow, this is simply a little giant."

When Latan rode his beloved horse and used gravity magic to float in front of Tanes and the others and landed, Dain sighed when he couldn't see the face opposite him even when he raised his head.

Thorin, Balin and the others also nodded. There was nothing they could do; the dwarves were indeed too short.

Then Dain cleared his throat and called out, "Hey, big guy! You're so tall, how are we supposed to talk to you face to face?"

Tanes promptly introduced Latarn: "The dwarf I'm speaking to you about now is Dain Ironfoot, King of the Iron Hills."

"Yeah." Latan nodded calmly, crossed his arms over his chest, and the purple light of gravity magic flashed by.

Amidst the strange cries of the dwarves and a hobbit, they were controlled by gravity magic and floated steadily up to a position where they could look at Latarn at eye level.

Then, Latarn used gravity magic to control the chairs, tables and other objects on the ground to float in the air. The chairs supported the skins of Thorin, Bilbo and the others, and the tables also stayed steadily in the air.

After Latarn finished, he looked at Dain and nodded slightly: "That's settled, King of the Iron Hills."

Dain patted the chair under his butt curiously, and found that it was motionless in mid-air. He exclaimed in admiration: "Just call me Dain!"

Tanis said helplessly at this time: "There is no need for Gandalf and I to be lifted up together by you. It's not like we can't see your face."

But Gandalf said with a smile: "I like it very much. This feeling of floating in the air is something I rarely experience."

Tanes rolled his eyes at the sometimes unserious wizard, then adjusted his expression and told Latan all about the recent situation briefly and effectively.

After listening to this, Latarn maintained his calm tone, "I understand. This means we must first capture Riverdale and Raven Ridge."

Then he raised his voice a few notches and shouted to his subordinates, "Oga, Freya, I order the two of you to lead a group of soldiers immediately and follow me to Raven Hill to capture it. Jellian, you will lead the remaining Red Lion Legion and obey Tanes' orders to capture Riverdale."

"Yes!"
