I reforged the glory of the magic ring in Middle-earth
Chapter 132: Failure of Seduction
Chapter 132: Failure of Seduction
The rotten leaves of Mirkwood burst into a sticky sap under Bilbo's feet. Five spiders the size of calves forced him into a pit at the base of an ancient tree. The venom sprayed by their claws opened and closed, corroding the trunk like a honeycomb.
"Come on! The Shire never had eight-legged creatures like you for stew! If the other hobbits saw you, they would surely make you into soup!"
Bilbo swung the brass short blade with a flourish of bravado, and the point of the blade sank into the jaws of the first spider to pounce.
But the next moment, his hand was knocked away by the claws of another spider, and the brass short blade flew out of his hand and landed at the roots of a tree.
"Gaji--(Catch him!)"
The second spider gave a cry of excitement and tackled Bilbo to the ground.
But the excited shout soon turned into a scream of pain. Bilbo used all his strength to kick away the big spider that pounced on him, and in his hand he held a sharp silver-white elven short blade.
"Tannis gave me more than just a dagger." Bilbo even waved the elven dagger at the dead spider with a little pride.
Then he saw more big spiders surrounding him.
"Of course, when he gave me the dagger, he didn't expect me to fight big guys like you." Bilbo used words to hide his nervousness, and kept turning around and trying to use the dagger to drive away the big spiders around him.
But the giant spiders were completely unmoved, and the entire tree canopy above Bilbo's head suddenly overturned, and a torrential downpour of sticky silk stuck his left leg to the ground.
Then three spiders pounced at him from different angles at the same time. He instinctively raised his Sting Sword to block, but was knocked away again.
A spider silk wrapped around his wrist, and a huge spider clamped its claws around his waist and swung Bilbo against the trunk of a nearby tree.
The back of Bilbo's head hit the tree knot hard, and his vision was instantly stained with blood.
He vaguely saw the elven short blade stuck in the mud beside him, but his right hand was too weak to pull it out.
The shrill cries of spiders enveloped his ears, layers of sticky spider silk wrapped around his chest, and a stench of decay blocked his mouth and nose.
Before he was completely plunged into darkness, Bilbo used his last bit of strength to bend his knees and kick the giant spider in the belly.
A loud roar suddenly exploded in the forest, and Bernal's silver-white figure cut through the vines.
The knight's greatsword swept across in a storm, and three invisible sword energies burst out in a fan shape.
The three spiders in the front row were dismembered in an instant, and before the fluorescent green blood had even hit the ground, the sword had already pierced the skull of the fourth spider.
The remaining big spider raised its claws angrily, but Bernard turned around and stepped on the tree trunk to gain leverage, and then he rushed into the air like an arrow.
"clang!"
The tip of the sword sank precisely into the joint of a large spider's chelicerae. Bernard twisted his wrist, and the three-finger-thick shell cracked. Amid the spider's shrill howls, he pressed the sword downward, creating a five-foot-long gash along its thorax and abdomen.
As the spider's entrails cascaded onto the leaf litter, the knight's boots leaped toward Bilbo, stepping over the dying body.
Although Bernard had his usual faint smile on his face, his voice was colder than the blade in his hand: "You dare to touch Tanes's friends? I can't imagine how crazy he will be after knowing this."
The five remaining spiders shrank back, their silver-white armor reflected in their compound eyes.
Bernard took this opportunity to check on Bilbo. Only half of the hobbit's pale face was exposed in the spider web cocoon, and the blood oozing from the wound on his left forehead condensed into dark red amber on the spider silk.
"Bilbo?"
Bernal tried calling his name, but received no response.
Poisoned to death?
Bernal's pupils suddenly contracted, and the knuckles holding the sword turned blue-white. When he turned his head to face the spiders again, the knight's sword had already stirred up a bloody wind.
He smashed the spider's head on the left with the blade of his sword, and the splashing juice frightened the compound eyes of the spider on the right.
Bernal then turned around and swept across to cut off the spider silk that was attempting a sneak attack, and smashed the carving on the end of the hilt into the mouthparts of the last spider.
When Bernard finally stopped in front of Bilbo, the spider corpses that had surrounded Bilbo were now spread out radially with him as the center, and the fatal wound on each corpse was clean and neat, and the person was killed with one blow.
He knelt on one knee, checked Bilbo's condition again, and found that he was still breathing. He breathed a sigh of relief and gently opened the cocoon made of spider silk with the tip of his sword.
Bilbo's eyelashes, which were covered with mucus, trembled twice, and Bernard's tense jaw line relaxed slightly, and he took out his red dew drop holy grail bottle from his waist bag.
Bernal said, "Open your mouth while you're awake and drink this."
Bilbo opened his mouth weakly, and Bernard helped him pour the liquid in the Red Dew Drop Holy Grail into his mouth.
"Cough, cough, cough!"
The blessing contained in the liquid immediately replenished Bilbo's lost strength and healed his injuries, making the hobbit, who had just been a little weak, full of energy again.
After Bilbo saw Bernal's face clearly, he relaxed: "Mr. Bernal..."
"Shh... Looks like you've made a lot of new 'friends'." Bernard put his fingers in front of his mouth, listening to the tiny sounds coming from above and around him.
That was the sound of the spider's feet tapping against the tree trunk.
Bilbo showed an apologetic expression. Bernard patted his shoulder and comforted him, "If you have anything to say, come back to Lake Town with me. Tanis must be worried right now..."
Before Bernard finished speaking, he suddenly threw the knight's sword with his backhand.
Above their heads, a giant spider that had crawled close to them at some point, using the environment as cover, was nailed through the head. Its eight legs twitched in the air in a strange posture as it fell down.
"Take your weapon and follow me." Bernal said briefly.
He was confident that he could kill all the big spiders that pounced on him, but he couldn't guarantee that he could protect Bilbo well.
Bilbo pulled the sharp elven short blade out of the rotten leaves and mud and nodded nervously.
"run!"
More and more big spiders noticed the movement here and were crawling quickly between the trees towards Bernal and the others.
When the nearest spider was about to catch up with Bilbo, several sounds of breaking through the air suddenly rang out in the woods, and an arrow shot from somewhere accurately pierced the spider's compound eyes.
"Lower your head!"
A clear female voice sounded.
Bernard instinctively leaned forward, a hail of arrows grazing his armor. Several spiders descended from the treetops and were pinned to the trunks, the white feathers on their arrows still trembling.
Tauriel jumped down from a tree, drew out two arrows, put the bowstring on them and aimed at the remaining giant spiders, but she did not shoot because Legolas' figure had swept across the battlefield like a gust of wind.
The Elf Prince's toes touched the spider web, and an arrow would fly off the bow with every leap.
As he landed beside Bernal, the last three arrows pierced three beating spider hearts simultaneously.
Legolas put away his bow and brushed away the spider silk that fell on his shoulders with his fingertips. Fragments of sunlight flowed through the ends of his golden hair, as if even the killing just now had become an elegant dance.
He directed his command to the elves around him who were aiming their bows at Benar, "Put away your weapons."
Benar protected Bilbo behind him, looking at the elves that appeared one after another from nowhere, and said to Legolas and Tauriel, "The welcome ceremony in Mirkwood is becoming more and more unique. Even the elves have learned to steal other people's prey?"
"Rob?" Tauriel raised an eyebrow and kicked away the dead spider at her feet. "These little cuties should have been dealt with three days ago. My team and I have been chasing them for a long time. Just when we were about to make a move, the hobbit behind you attracted them and made all the preparations for the encirclement go to waste."
Bilbo reacted quickly and said, "So you saw me a long time ago, but you just watched me being chased by these huge spiders?"
Legolas glanced at Bilbo calmly and said, "Watching? No, you have no idea how many spiders you've attracted by running around. Why do you think you could hold out for so long? If it weren't for Tauriel and her crew, you would have been drowned by the sea of spiders long ago."
Bernal raised his hand. "Alright, enough bickering. So why did you choose to show yourself before me now?"
Legolas and Tauriel exchanged a glance, and Tauriel spoke, "Because I sought you out to give you a warning, a kind one."
"What warning?" Bernard raised his eyebrows.
Tauriel pointed to the corpse of a large spider lying on the ground nearby. "As for these spiders, they are disappearing from Mirkwood bit by bit. These ones here are almost all that are left."
Bernard hummed, then said, "Isn't that good news for your Woodland Kingdom? I remember when I visited you not long ago, your king said these spiders were bothering you elves. Now that these spiders have disappeared from Mirkwood, you shouldn't have to worry about them attacking you anymore. Why do you say it's a warning?"
Bilbo's ears moved slightly, and he understood the hidden meaning of Tauriel's words.
He leaned out from behind Bernal and looked at the heroic female elf warrior: "Wait a minute, lady, the word you just used was 'disappear', not 'eliminate', correct?"
Tauriel gave Bilbo a kind smile, then looked at Bernard. "It seems your hobbit friend understood my warning before you did."
Bernard was not stupid either. After Bilbo's reminder, he frowned and asked, "Where did these spiders disappear to?"
Legolas replied for Tauriel, "Tauriel said these are the remaining ones, and we have been tracking these spiders for the past few days."
Bernal suddenly raised his head and looked behind him, outside the Mirkwood, in the direction of Long Lake Town.
He smiled and said, "Interesting, these spiders don't stay in the forest, but instead want to go to where people live. Thank you for the information, elves. If there is a chance to come to the Golden Tree's territory, I will treat you two to a few drinks."
Then Benar paused and asked, "Should elves be able to drink?"
Legolas nodded subconsciously, and Bernard said, "That's good."
Then he patted Bilbo's shoulder and said, "Let's go back quickly."
But Bilbo shook his head: "Wait a minute, Mr. Bernard, the dagger that Tanes gave me is lost, and I have to find it back."
Then he habitually reached into his pocket, but found an empty inner pocket. Cold sweat instantly soaked the back of his collar, and his face changed when Bernal and the elves were not noticing.
The magic ring that he had put into the inner pocket of his pocket disappeared at some point.
Bilbo raised his head sharply and said to Bernard, "And I have lost something very important to me. I must find it."
But to Bilbo's surprise, Bernard simply stretched out his hand, and the brass dagger and the golden ring appeared in his palm so casually.
"Important things? Are you looking for them?"
Bilbo looked at Bernard with his mouth slightly open.
Bernard handed the two items to Bilbo very decisively and said, "Next time, remember to hold your weapon tightly and wear clothes with sealed pockets so that you won't lose anything important to you."
Bilbo took the brass dagger and the ring. When he heard Bernard say "important things", his eyes subconsciously looked at the brass dagger first, but soon looked at the ring again.
"Bilbo?" Bernard called out, seeing Bilbo looking a little dazed.
Bilbo shuddered, quickly putting away the brass dagger and the ring, and asked, "Thank you very much, Mr. Bernard. Where did you find it... them?"
Bernard shrugged. "Because they happened to be together. I can't think of anyone else besides you who would have the leisure to carry a dagger and a ring into Mirkwood."
Bilbo put the Ring back into his pocket. It was no longer hot but had returned to its former coolness.
Bilbo thanked him again, "Thank you."
"No need to say it so often," said Bernard. "Oh, by the way, Bilbo, I have a few words to say about the ring."
Bilbo's heart was in his throat, but he smiled briefly, then disappeared. "What is it?"
"Your ring seems to have some magic. It has been chirping something in my ear since I picked it up. I find what it says ridiculous because of some things I have experienced, but since you think this ring is important, I think it's better to let Tanes take a look at it. He is very good at dealing with these magical things and ensuring that they become harmless." Bernal said.
Bilbo breathed a sigh of relief and nodded. "Of course, of course! I will, but isn't he busy discussing with Thorin and the others how to attack the Lonely Mountain? I'll tell him when he's done."
Tauriel then called out to Bernal, "I think you need someone who knows those spiders very well."
Bernal turned and looked at the female elf. "You want to go back to Lake Town with us? But I don't think those spiders are a threat. A well-trained stormtrooper can handle one of them."
Tauriel nodded. "Yes, so these creatures never engage the enemy head-on. They patiently lurk in the darkness until their prey shows signs of fatigue. You can't guarantee that your soldiers will be fully focused at all times, can you?"
Legolas heard Tauriel's words and came over to her side and whispered, "Are you mad, Tauriel? My father will throw you into prison if he learns of your actions."
"He's always wanted to do this." Tauriel said without turning back. "Rather than being imprisoned by your father at any time, it is better for me to kill all those spiders first."
Legolas took a deep breath and said, "Then I will go too."
Now it was Tauriel's turn to look at Legolas with an expression that said "Are you crazy?"
Bernal looked at the two elves who were in a stalemate and grinned: "Then let me welcome you two on behalf of Tanes."
