Chapter 81 Bilbo, the group's favorite

Chapter 81 Bilbo, the group's favorite

When Bilbo woke from his slumber, he smelled the delicate scent of incense, and then he opened his eyes suddenly to see a ceiling full of classical art instead of the short, gray roof of his own tent.

"here it is?"

Bilbo then found himself lying on a soft and comfortable big bed, covered with a warm white duvet, and wearing the pajamas he had brought with him but had never had the chance to wear.

"Hmm? Ah, Bilbo, you're awake at last."

Bofur's surprised voice came from the bedside, where his felt-hatted head popped up.

However, although Bofur tried his best to stand on tiptoe, he could only barely expose the area above his chest.

Bilbo then realized that he was not lying on a big bed, but a normal-sized bed for a very tall person.

Bilbo couldn't help but ask curiously, "Where am I? How are Tanis, Gandalf, and Thorin?"

Bofur finally gave up standing on tiptoe, propped himself up on the bed with his hands, and replied, "This is Rivendell. You've been unconscious from a fever and have been sleeping for a day and a night. If it weren't for Tanis using magic to stabilize your condition, you wouldn't have made it to Rivendell. Thorin was worried about you and asked me to watch over you here. As for Tanis and Gandalf, don't worry about them. They seem to be with that elf named Eddard. Oh, and I heard from Mr. Bernard that Tanis and the others are meeting with elves or wizards from other places today."

Wizard? You mean the prayer?

Bilbo blinked, sorting out Bofur's long speech. "So we are in Elfland now? And Thorin actually agreed to come?"

Bofur yawned. "I told you it's because you're ill, Master Bilbo. Now that you're awake, I'll go tell Thorin and the others so they don't worry."

Bilbo subconsciously raised his hand to stop them and shook his head, "No, no, no, you don't have to go in person. I can get out of bed and talk to them myself."

He tried to get down from the bed, but found himself feeling dizzy and his limbs were weak, so he sat back down on the bed.

Seeing this, Bofur moved over, helped Bilbo lie back on the bed, and carefully tucked in the corners of the quilt.

"Okay, you haven't recovered from your cold yet and you're still sick. I'll go call someone over. You've been hungry all day and you should eat something to fill your stomach." Bofur said as he jumped off the bed.

Bilbo curled up comfortably in the quilt and nodded obediently: "Okay, if possible, please bring me a pork pie and a blueberry cheese..."

Bofur shrugged. "I'll help pass it on, though I'm not sure if you can eat these things while you're sick."

The door was closed, and Bilbo was alone in the room.

The short figure lay quietly on the soft bed, then turned over lightly with some boredom and looked at the sky outside the window.

The clear river of stars instantly came into his eyes. Bilbo stared at the boundless starry sky, where the stars were dotted and shining with charming light like diamonds.

It was as if he had merged into the brilliant galaxy, his breathing became slow and deep, and his body gradually relaxed.

Bilbo's mouth curled up unconsciously because of the beautiful scenery in the night sky, and he forgot the fatigue of the previous journey.

Soon, the door was pushed open heavily by the dwarves. Their noisy voices instantly broke the silence in the room, causing Bilbo to turn over again.

"I told you, our master thief won't fall down so easily because of a cold." Qili said with a beaming face when he saw this scene.

Balin smiled kindly and nodded.

Gloin took over Kili's words and said, "You are right, Kili, our thief needs some physical training."

Dwalin said in a deep voice, "Then leave it to me. I will be responsible for Bilbo's physical training and ensure that he becomes a qualified warrior."

Bilbo stared at the more ferocious-looking Dwalin with wide eyes, pointed at himself, and shook his head quickly: "Oh, I appreciate you all being so concerned about me, but there's no need for physical training. I've never even raised a sword many times in my life."

Fili said, "It's alright. Last time when you and I were fighting ogres, you threw rocks very accurately. Since you don't like to raise a sword, I'll ask you to throw knives."

Bilbo opened his mouth and looked at Fili. The dwarf, who looked like a little lion, was looking at him with a smile, and his golden braids swayed with his movements.

"No, no, no, really, no thanks."

Bilbo felt that the phrase he had said most today was "No, thank you, I don't need it."

"Make way, our Master Bilbo's dinner is coming."

Bofur, along with his brothers Bifur and Bombur, carried a low wooden table and an exquisite white dinner tray, and walked through the noisy dwarves to the bedside.

Bifur spoke a concerned greeting to Bilbo in Dwarvish, but Bilbo was confused and didn't understand.

Bofur squeezed forward and placed the low table on Bilbo's quilt, and together he and Bombur put the plates on it.

"Don't worry, Bifur is concerned about your health. Well, although there is no fruit cheese and pork pie, there are grilled meat and grilled fish, as well as some vegetable salads, but the only drink is this glass of water." Bifur said with a smile.

Then his face changed, and he raised his hand to slap away Bombur's dishonest hand and scolded: "Hey, Bombur, you can't eat anymore. This is Bilbo's dinner. You have eaten enough. Don't you see that the elves are looking at you with incredible eyes when you eat?"

Kili laughed. "Haha, I agree with Bombur on this one. He should eat all those elves out of their wits! He looks so ignorant. Our Bombur hasn't even had his fill yet."

Fili nodded in agreement, "That's right, and they didn't even give us good wine to drink. It was just some awful dew."

"Okay, I know you all care about Bilbo, but give our patient a quiet space." Gandalf's old voice came from outside the door, and then his tall figure walked in.

Behind him followed Tanes, who also showed a concerned expression, and then came the silent Thorin.

Thorin glanced at Bilbo calmly, and then looked away after confirming that Bilbo was in good spirits.

It seems like he is in a bad mood?
Bilbo noticed Thorin's expression.

When the dwarves saw Thorin come in, they all quieted down, restoring the noisy room to its previous tranquility.

Thorin looked up at the dwarves and said, "Didn't you hear what Gandalf said? Give the Snitch some quiet space to do your own thing."

Thorin's words were very effective for the dwarves. They filed out of the room, leaving only Tanes and the others. This also made Bilbo secretly relieved. He didn't hate dwarves.

Rather, he was deeply touched by the dwarves' concern for him, but it was indeed too noisy in his ears.

If it had been at the feast, Bilbo would certainly not have minded, but now he needed peace and quiet to recuperate.

Tanis asked, "Bilbo, are you feeling any worse?"

Bilbo nodded, then rubbed his hands and looked at the delicious food on the plate. "I'm still a little dizzy, but I'm fine now. I'm just a little hungry. You know, the worst punishment for a Hobbit is to have only one meal a day."

Tanes smiled and said, "Well, since you're in the mood to joke, it means you're fine. You know, you scared us all when you fainted. Why isn't the pendant I gave you around your neck?"

Bilbo picked up a piece of still-warm roast meat (Bofur had heated it up for him) and replied awkwardly, "I left the pendant at home. I didn't expect that the combination of lack of rest and the severe cold would cause me to pass out."

Then he put the piece of barbecue into his mouth, chewed it a few times and swallowed it into his stomach.

The satisfaction of the food made Bilbo feel very comfortable and relieved his rumbling stomach.

Then he continued with a hint of emotion, "From reading, I always thought the scariest things about an adventure were the dangerous animals and the harsh environment. I always thought I was prepared for everything when I set out. But I never considered the unexpected surprises beyond those two, like winter temperatures unlike those in the Shire, or those orcs who couldn't hurt me but kept me awake."

Gandalf smiled and continued Bilbo's words, saying, "A real journey will bring you far more experience and knowledge than what you can find in books."

Bilbo said, "That's right. But please leave me alone for now. How are your talks with the elves going?"

Then Bilbo glanced at Thorin and said, "It doesn't seem to be going well."

Tanis noticed Bilbo's little movement and shook his head slightly: "It's not as bad as you think, Bilbo, or rather, Thorin has not started talking to the elves yet."

Bilbo asked in surprise, "Why?"

Gandalf said, "Lord Elrond hasn't returned to Rivendell yet. There have been a lot of Orcs near Rivendell lately, so he led a group of elite Elven cavalry out to wipe out those Orcs and hasn't returned yet. Although Lindir, the current caretaker of Rivendell, said Lord Elrond would be back tonight, it's getting late now and the possibility of his return is slim. We may have to wait until tomorrow, so you can rest assured and get some rest."

In other words, Thorin's bad complexion was simply because he was with the elves?
Bilbo thought to himself as he put another piece of roast meat into his mouth.

At this moment, in the quiet room, the door trembled slightly, and three short and polite knocks were heard.

As the door swayed slightly, a clear yet gentle male voice floated into the room through the crack: "Lord Tanes, Lord Gandalf, and Lord Thorin who has come from afar, Lord Elrond has returned to Rivendell. Lord Lindir sent me to inform you all."

The atmosphere in the room seemed to pause, and a hint of surprise flashed in Tanes' eyes.

Gandalf gently stroked his long beard, looking a little embarrassed. After all, he had just told Bilbo that Elrond might not come back tonight.

Thorin lowered his head slightly. Although his face was expressionless, a hint of barely perceptible displeasure was revealed beneath his thick eyebrows.

Bilbo broke the silence in the room and said, "I'll continue with my dinner. You two go meet that master first."

Gandalf nodded, then looked at Tanis and Thorin.

Thorin followed Gandalf first, and then Tanis gave Bilbo a few more instructions and followed.

After leaving the room, Thorin saw Balin sitting outside the room and resting. He said to him, "Balin, come with me. Let's meet the Lord of Rivendell and see what he has to say."

The starlight and moonlight shine through the cracks in the valley and fall onto the elf open-air pavilion, as if covering this exquisite building with a layer of silver glow.

The pavilion is built of the lightest trees, with delicate patterns carved on the fine bark, and is surrounded by a tulle as transparent as crystal, which flutters gently in the wind.

A fully armed elven warrior was dismantling his exquisite armor alone. After hearing the noise, he turned around and smiled warmly - it was Elrond, Lord of Rivendell.

He placed the golden sword at his waist on the stone table in the pavilion, then raised his right hand and touched his left chest, then waved it forward gently: "Ah, Mithrandir, Tanes, I am very happy to see you."

Elrond paused, then offered Thorin a welcoming smile before speaking, "I am also delighted to see a king of Durin's line here again. Welcome, Thorin Oakenshield, son of Thráin, grandson of Thror. And welcome, too, Balin, son of Findeen."

Tanis had known Elrond for a long time, and so had Gandalf.

They knew that the gesture Elrond made represented a hug among the elves, so they immediately responded to Elrond's courtesy with the same gesture.

Of course, Thorin and Balin did not return the greeting like Tanes and the others.

The former had no expression on his face, while the latter nodded slightly with that kind face.

"Mellonnen (hello), Lord Elrond." Gandalf greeted in Elvish.

Elrond smiled and nodded, then looked at Tanes with some joy. He patted the golden sword on the stone table and said, "Tanes, the sword you gave me is truly very useful. I once thought it could only be used as an ornament, but I didn't expect its hardness and sharpness to far exceed my imagination. It has helped me a lot, easily cutting through the Orcs' inferior weapons and chopping off their heads."

Tanes also replied happily: "It's a good thing that you are satisfied."

Elrond nodded, then looked back at Thorin and Balin, his smile fading slightly.

He said meaningfully, "The reason I am back so late is that I brought my cavalry to destroy some Orcs that came from the south. It is strange that the Orcs should be so close to Rivendell. Something, or someone, must have attracted them."

Gandalf replied, "That might be us."

Thorin looked at Elrond silently, frowning, still unwilling to say anything.

Gandalf could only say helplessly: "Thorin, take the map I gave you to Lord Elrond. He can understand the information contained in the map."

Thorin finally spoke, but what he said made Gandalf's eyes go dark: "Our affairs have nothing to do with the elves."

Gandalf rubbed his forehead with a headache and said, "Oh my God, Thorin, please show him the map."
