The Witcher: Make Witcher Great Again
Chapter 141 War, War Never Changes
Chapter 141 War, War Never Changes
With wine and meat, everyone ate heartily.
While eating, Regis also shared with the three people the interesting stories he had learned over the years as a barber;
In return, Geralt and Maximus also chatted about their own affairs;
Since Lin En had just come down the mountain, there wasn't much to talk about.
But if I can’t talk about myself, can I talk about others?
When it comes to storytelling, even this high-level vampire who has lived for hundreds of years is no match for Lin En.
He just casually talked about some of the plots in "A Song of Ice and Fire", and the other people were fascinated by it.
And when Lynn talked about the end of the first part of A Song of Ice and Fire:
King Robert died of his wounds, and Eddard Stark launched a coup but failed due to betrayal and was imprisoned.
Finally, under the persuasion of others, Eddard Stark decided to give up the honor he had always defended and surrendered his noble head to the enemy.
But he was still executed.
The knight errant immediately began to curse.
His face flushed and he was very emotional.
He cursed wildly, using the foulest words he could think of.
Geralt remained silent.
He seemed to see his own shadow in Eddard Stark.
It is also the persistence that others see as inflexible, and the painful price paid for this persistence.
Only Regis could maintain the same elegance as before.
But he also sighed and said with some regret.
"I thought Eddard Stark and the Stark family were the protagonists of this story. It seems I was mistaken."
Lynn nodded in agreement.
"I felt the same as you when I first heard this story."
After a while, Maximus's anger finally subsided a lot.
And because the story Lin En just told was too depressing.
For a moment, the cabin fell into silence.
"Well, gentlemen, let's call it a night. Everyone, you all have a mission to perform, so why not get some rest early?"
The barber stood up from the ground and prepared to clean up the place to make room for the few people to sleep.
"Sir Regis."
At this moment, Maximus suddenly seemed to have thought of something. He said, "Sir Regis, I wonder how much you know about diseases that cause people to fall into a coma? Have you ever encountered a patient in this situation?"
The barber thought for a moment and asked, "Well, there are many conditions that can cause someone to become unconscious. Which one are you referring to?"
So Maximus told the other party about the Duchess's situation.
"In my humble opinion, based on your description, I think this isn't a curse, but more like someone poisoning you."
The Knight Errant was stunned.
"But the doctors couldn't see that it was poisoned."
Regis explained.
"That's perfectly normal. Even a doctor with decades of experience wouldn't guarantee they know all the poisons. As far as I know, the elves who ruled this world before humans already possessed extensive knowledge of poisons."
"Of course, this is just my unfounded speculation and should not be taken seriously."
"You are too modest." Maximus extended an invitation to the barber. "I have a request, Sir Regis, could you please join our team? If you join us, perhaps you can find out what kind of poison Her Highness the Duchess has been poisoned with."
Regis agreed happily without giving it much thought.
"Well, I must admit, I am indeed curious about your journey. Fine, I will travel with you then."
"Thank you so much... Um, both of you masters..."
After the barber agreed, Maximus belatedly remembered an embarrassing incident.
His anxious attitude just now seemed as if he didn't trust the witcher to lift the curse.
But before he could explain, Lin En took the initiative and said with a smile.
"It would be even better if Lord Regis joined us. Geralt and I know a little bit about curses, but we're powerless against poisons. If Her Highness the Duchess is really poisoned, Geralt and I will have no choice but to watch Lord Regis perform."
Maximus was deeply moved by Lynn's kindness and generosity.
At the same time, I was puzzled by the rumors circulating in the north about witchers. Witchers were obviously as noble as knights-errant.
Why are there still rumors in the north about demon hunters, saying they are just a bunch of mutant monsters without blood or tears?
It turns out that northerners are all ignorant country bumpkins.
Maximus made up his mind secretly.
No matter what the final outcome of this journey is, he will find a few famous bards and ask them to compose songs about the deeds of the witchers and sing them out.
……
As usual, birdsong filled the dawn mist.
This heralds the coming of sunrise.
Regis pushed open the door of the cabin with great energy and walked out first.
The second one is Lynn.
The last ones to come out were Geralt and Maximus.
The two of them didn't look very well, but it wasn't because of illness.
It's because of drinking too much.
The barber never drank a drop of alcohol.
After Lynn finished his glass of wine from the kettle, he didn't get a refill.
Geralt and Maximus were not so restrained.
The two drank all night long, so when the sun rose and they were woken up by Lynn and Regis, they still looked listless.
Fortunately, at least they could still ride horses and would not fall off them.
Regis had no horses.
He accepted Lynn's invitation and they rode together on a horse.
The group first arrived in Dillingen, where they found a barge to take them across to the Kingdom of Soden.
This is an ancient country with a long history in the north, located on both sides of the Yaruga River.
It borders Bruges and Cintra to the west, Temeria and Ireland to the north, and Rivia to the east.
However, the ancient kingdom's former glory is now gradually shrinking due to the pressure from its neighbors.
Perhaps one day, it will become a vassal of a big country like other small countries.
Of course this is none of the travelers' business.
A few days later, they disembarked at a town called Kagen in the Kingdom of Soden.
We replenished some supplies in the town and bought a horse for the barber.
Everyone rested in the town for a night to recuperate, and set out again the next day, heading south towards the Rivendell Valley.
By this point, they were already halfway through their journey.
Rivendell Valley, also known as the Valley Region and the River Kingdom.
This is a rich land with vast forests and a crisscrossing network of waterways and lakes.
This place should develop into a vibrant and flourishing scene.
However, as they walked along, all they saw was a deserted countryside.
"Maximus, are all you southerners like this? Such good land is left uninhabited?"
"This has nothing to do with the quality of the soil or the climate environment, and this place can't actually be considered the south. This is still northern land." It was not the knight-errant who answered Geralt's question, but the barber.
He still looked gentle and refined, and answered carefully.
"The dividing line between north and south is not the Yaruga River, but the foothills of the Amer Mountains."
Lynn also explained.
"This land has at least four owners, and none of them is able to bring true and lasting peace to the land."
"The kings of Temeria, Sodden, Cintra, and Rivia all claimed to be the rightful heirs to this land, often emphasizing their claims with fire and sword."
"Unfortunately, no one can truly convince anyone else."
"Not only that, but there are reports of elven raiders infesting the Rivendell Valley... As if having kings fighting each other wasn't bad enough."
Regis finally sighed, "The ambitions of the upper class make the lower class pay with their lives. This is politics. From the beginning to the end, it has always been the same and has never changed."
