The Mystery of the Inner Demon
Chapter 231 Death Instinct
Chapter 231 Death Instinct
Luo Yong is dead.
He used the cruelest method: he bit off his own tongue and bled to death.
Upon learning of his death, the only person who wept so bitterly she nearly fainted was Lou Jing. As for You He, he was blankly bewildered. Regarding everything Luo Yong had done for him, You He insisted that he knew nothing. Since there was no evidence to show that he was involved in the murder, he was acquitted after a trial.
Qi Fei sat in his office, flipping through the scarecrow crystal ball on his desk. Snowflakes fluttered down amidst the scarecrow's eerie smile.
"Oh dear..." Wu Shanqiu's voice came from not far away.
"Did you bite your tongue?" Liu Tong appeared behind her without her noticing, with a hint of concern.
"Ouch..." Wu Shanqiu's face showed pain, "It hurts so much."
"Looks like you really bit your tongue," Liu Tong laughed.
"My God, how much does Luo Yong want to die? It must hurt so much to bite off his tongue!" Wu Shanqiu immediately thought of it, and as she spoke, she handed over a cup of iced milk tea, which Liu Tong had given her.
"That'll help relieve the pain," he said, handing another glass to Qi Fei. "To celebrate closing the case."
"Liu Tong, you're so stingy! Didn't you give me any?" Zhong Kui gracefully walked over and snatched the milk tea from Qi Fei's hand.
"This time, Qi Fei deserves special praise. He was incredibly patient and meticulously unraveled the mystery of such an unsolvable case." Liu Tong, as always, was generous with his praise, patting Qi Fei on the shoulder as he spoke. "Keep it up!"
However, Qi Fei didn't seem happy.
“I don’t understand. Luo Yong has been very successful in every way. Why did he choose to go down such a path of no return?” He put down the crystal ball, turned his chair towards Liu Tong and Zhong Kui, and looked puzzled.
"The success you mentioned is his success in a social sense. Perhaps his death raises a very good question for us—does the success that everyone strives for really bring the happiness we imagine?" Zhong Kui said in a philosopher's tone. "Obviously, the answer to this question in Luo Yong's case is no."
He possessed much, yet he was not happy.
"There's no need to die if you're unhappy, right?"
“The fact that you asked that question only shows that you are a very self-consistent person. That’s why I like you. The fascinating thing about human nature is that while people have the instinct to survive, they also have the impulse to destroy themselves. This instinct for death is like an undercurrent in the human heart, intertwined with the desire to live.” As Zhong Kui spoke, she picked up the old compass on Qi Fei’s table, stood it up, and the sunlight coming through the window shone on one side of the compass, leaving a long shadow on the other side.
“See?” Zhong Kui sat on the table, her posture alluring as she looked at Qi Fei. “Just like this compass, the brighter the light, the longer the shadow.”
Luo Yong seemed to have everything, yet he constantly struggled between his own desires and reality. Unfortunately, he couldn't find a way to coexist peacefully with the world. "Of course, I have no right to say that." A barely perceptible hint of sadness flickered across her haughty expression.
"That's too advanced, I don't understand. I'd better go back and write a statement." Liu Tong shrugged and said casually, "The suspect died unexpectedly during the interrogation, and my superiors are urging me to explain. I can't talk to you about such metaphysical issues." With that, he walked towards his office.
"As for Luo Yong's case, let alone Brother Fei, I don't understand it at all. Even if I can accept the relationship between Luo Yong and You He, I don't think You He was that great after Luo Yong died. I didn't see him being that sad."
"Of course, this has nothing to do with the case. I'm just gossiping a bit, is their relationship really real?" Wu Shanqiu sipped her milk tea; clearly, the ice water was having a good pain-relieving effect, and she was speaking quite fluently. "Heh..." Qi Fei said with a hint of disdain, "I forgot to tell you, I later consulted a science fiction fan group to find out more."
First of all, their relationship is definitely real.
Otherwise, they wouldn't use a sci-fi couple character as their nickname. This is no secret in the sci-fi group.
However, we all misjudged You He.
It turns out that besides maintaining a romantic relationship with Luo Yong, You He also had affairs with several other men, including Dongfang Tian.
"Wow, I never would have guessed this harmless guy was a player!"
“I noticed that a long time ago,” Zhong Kui said slowly. “Did you all really think that the fight between Dongfang Tian and Luo Yong was really about Luo Yong privately helping You He with his job? You actually believed such a far-fetched reason?”
The obvious jealousy Dongfang Tian displayed when talking about these things could only mean that it was related to emotional entanglements.
"My God, Luo Yong must have thought You He was his ideal woman until he died, right?" Wu Shanqiu pouted. "Suddenly, I feel like his death was such a waste."
“That’s not necessarily true. For Luo Yong, You He is just a projection of his ideal life. What kind of person You He is is not important,” Zhong Kui said. “What is important is that You He gave him a reason to rebel against the life he had endured for fifty years.”
"In this case, both Hao Weiwei and Luo Yong seem to have died unjustly," Qi Fei said thoughtfully. "Especially Hao Weiwei, he probably didn't understand why he had brought about such a deadly disaster until his death."
“Our Officer Qi, if you take this seriously, you’ll lose.” Zhong Kui handed the intact milk tea to Qi Fei. “Drink something sweet; the dopamine will pull you out of this inexplicable slump.”
Just then, there was a light knock on the office door.
Several people turned to look at the sound and saw Lou Jing standing at the door.
Her already sallow complexion looked even more haggard.
She walked straight to Qi Fei and made her request without hesitation: "I'm here today because I need your help with something."
Qi Fei quickly stood up from his chair: "What kind of help do you need? Just tell me."
Lou Jing wrapped her Burberry shawl tighter around herself: "I want a copy of the novel that Luo Yong wrote online. You know, you can't find that novel online anymore."
This request surprised Qi Fei: "Are you sure you want to read it?"
Lou Jing let out a soft breath, her swollen eyes seemingly devoid of tears: "This is the man I've spent half my life with, and I've discovered I know nothing about him."
I know this won't make me happy, but it's a part of Luo Yong's story, and I want to keep it so that my daughter can inherit it when she's old enough. She doesn't yet know how her beloved father died.
Qi Fei listened, filled with respect for this woman, and nodded solemnly: "Okay, I promise you."
