Chapter 226 Lin Xin is missing
Mo Ziyuan was dumbfounded as soon as he entered the tent. Chen Lingyuan was swaying and leaning against the support pillar by the bed, carrying a long sword. Kong Xiao was kneeling on the ground not far from him, his face pale, clutching his shoulder, and bright red blood was flowing from between his fingers.

"General, what's wrong?" Mo Ziyuan went over and helped Chen Lingyuan sit down on the bed. When he touched Chen Lingyuan's body, he found that he was extremely cold and was shivering.

"Beast, beast, this beast!" Chen Lingyuan's voice was very weak, and his body seemed a little weak. He leaned against the quilt and pointed at Kong Xiao, trembling as he spoke.

Kong Xiao suddenly raised his head, his bloodshot eyes flashing with resentment, and said viciously, "I'm a beast? How am I a beast? I was just thinking of myself. They say, 'If a man doesn't look out for himself, he'll be punished by heaven and earth.' I just wanted to take back what was rightfully mine, how am I a beast?"

"You! You're still trying to argue! Do you know what will happen to the soldiers outside if you do this? Do you really want to kill so many brothers who have risked their lives with you for your own selfish reasons?" Chen Lingyuan was heartbroken.

"They deserved it! If they had surrendered, I would have made sure they lived a life of luxury. They were just stubborn and didn't understand. What does their death have to do with me?" Kong Xiao said defiantly, but Mo Ziyuan could still see the hint of guilt that flashed in his eyes when he said that.

"You're so stubborn! This is treason! Do you think you'll have a good ending if you go to the Western Rong? Do you think those Western Rong people will keep their promises to you? Humph! Don't dream, they're just using you." Chen Lingyuan looked at his former capable deputy general, utterly disheartened.

"I'm willing to let them use me, at least I can see what they give me. What about you? I've followed you for over ten years, what have I gotten in return? Tell me!" Kong Xiao roared uncontrollably.

"Ziyuan, knock him out. I have nothing more to say to him." After saying that, Chen Lingyuan shut his mouth and didn't say another word.

Mo Ziyuan was very obedient. Without saying a word, he stepped forward and chopped Kong Xiao's neck with a knife while Kong Xiao was still shouting that Chen Lingyuan had wronged him. Seeing Kong Xiao's limp body fall to the ground, he found a rope and tied him up tightly.

"General, what exactly did he do... General?" After finishing all this, Mo Ziyuan walked to Chen Lingyuan's bedside, intending to ask what had happened, but saw two lines of hot tears rolling down Chen Lingyuan's cheeks.

“Ziyuan, I was wrong, but it’s too late! Kong Xiao… he put drugs in the camp’s drinking water. All the soldiers who used the water were drugged. I… I’m a sinner!” Chen Lingyuan said, slapping himself twice. But he was also drugged, and his body was weak and powerless. The two slaps were like tickling, leaving no marks. Instead, he felt even more miserable.

"..." Mo Ziyuan hadn't expected Kong Xiao to pull this stunt; he thought Kong Xiao would at most reveal his and Lin Xin's plan to raid the enemy camp tonight.

"General, please rest for a moment. I'll go check the situation outside." He had rushed in in a hurry, leaving all the Western Rong people with Lin Xin. Now he was eager to know what was happening outside.

"Go quickly!" Chen Lingyuan knew the importance of the matter and nodded hurriedly.

Mo Ziyuan lifted the tent flap, and a strong smell of blood wafted out. Apart from the Western Rong people he had been fighting and the corpse of the man in black sitting in the chair, there was no sign of Lin Xin.

"Xin'er!" His heart skipped a beat, and he rushed out of the tent to search around, but all he could see were the corpses of the Western Rong people and unconscious soldiers; there wasn't a single person standing.

"Ziyuan, what happened?" Hearing his shout, Chen Lingyuan, supporting his weak body, came out and asked.

"General, Xin'er, Xin'er is missing!" Mo Ziyuan rushed to him upon hearing the voice.

Chen Lingyuan then saw the situation clearly and his heart skipped a beat. He staggered to a man dressed as a soldier, knelt down on the ground, and tremblingly checked his breath. He felt a faint warmth on his fingertips and then let out a long sigh of relief, only to feel a sudden darkness before his eyes.

He forced himself not to faint and reached out his hand to Mo Ziyuan, who was pacing anxiously beside him. "Ziyuan, don't worry. With Miss Lin's abilities, she should be fine. Calm down and think carefully about where she is most likely to go."

Upon hearing this, Mo Ziyuan forced himself to calm down and try to think, but even after pulling his hair out, he still couldn't come up with a solution. His eyes were bloodshot as he stared at Chen Lingyuan. "Let's go check those two corpses and see if there are any clues!" Chen Lingyuan said again.

"Yes, I'll go right now." Mo Ziyuan jumped up and ran to the black-clad corpse in the chair to examine it carefully. He searched the whole body and only found a wound on the neck that almost severed the neck. Blood flowed from the wound and stained the front of the man's clothes red.

The wound was very neat, and it must have been caused in one go.

Looking at the Western Rong man lying on the ground, besides some sword wounds on his body, he also had a similar wound in the same place as him.

He examined the corpses of several more Western Rong soldiers and found that their causes of death were all similar: a single wound on the neck, resulting in instant death. He felt somewhat relieved, as he realized that Lin Xin was behind it all.

Seeing that he had regained some of his senses, Chen Lingyuan could no longer hold on and collapsed to the ground, losing consciousness.

Mo Ziyuan was caught in a dilemma. He wanted to find Lin Xin, but he couldn't bear to leave this place. After much deliberation, he suppressed his worry for Lin Xin, bent down, and carried Chen Lingyuan back to the tent.

A low groan caught his attention.

A soldier groggily moved his arm, standing out among the unconscious soldiers and dead Western Rong people.

Mo Ziyuan darted to him, grabbed his arm, and pulled him up from the ground, asking urgently, "What just happened? Tell me quickly!"

The already dizzy soldier became even more disoriented from being shaken. He barely managed to lift his eyes and see that it was Mo Ziyuan. He forced himself to answer, "A lot of... a lot of Western Rong people have come again..."

"A lot more Western Rong people have arrived?" Mo Ziyuan repeated, then asked, "Where is Miss Lin? Have you seen her?"

"Miss Lin?" the soldier asked, bewildered.

"Yes, Miss Lin, have you seen her?"

The soldier shook his head. "No, I didn't see him..."

Mo Ziyuan was momentarily disappointed when he didn't see her, but he quickly cheered up. If one person woke up, another would follow, and eventually someone would see where Lin Xin had gone.

So he patiently looked at all the soldiers in the camp, questioned those who were slightly sober, and then settled them into the uniform tents that had been prepared. In any case, most of those who were awake had injuries.

Those who couldn't wake up were also grouped together.

After settling all the soldiers, he received the general news that Lin Xin had killed the black-clad man who led the attack on the camp and led the remaining Xirong people away.
