Mystery: When the Fool Meets the Masked Fool
Chapter 60: Screw Gum's Lesson
Chapter 60: Screw Gum's Lesson
Noticing Screwgum's undisguised gaze, Bonois smiled and said, "Mr. Screwgum, is there something wrong?"
ScrewGum met Bonois's gaze and nodded slightly: "There are some problems."
Bonois raised his hand and gestured, "Excuse me, Mr. Screw-Gum."
ScrewGum didn't shy away from asking directly, "What's the difference between an intelligent being and a tool?"
Bonois pondered this question, and in a split second he came up with hundreds of arguments and rebuttals:
Hypothesis: It is the composition of matter.
Negative: The composition of Screwgooms is obviously quite different from that of humans.
Hypothesis: Intelligent life can think, but tools cannot.
Negation: Thinking and judging. Tools can also perform these actions. Often, tools can also change their judgments based on changes in the surrounding environment.
Assumption: ...
negative:……
Sensing the electrical signals from Bonova's brain, ScrewGum had already gotten the answer he wanted.
He raised his hand, interrupting the repetition of arguments in Bonois's mind.
"You've fallen into a misconception," ScrewGum concluded. "Your thinking itself is flawed."
"It's certainly possible to engage in careful thinking based on logic, but one shouldn't be completely trapped in logic. The fusion of subjective and objective judgment is the way intelligent life should think."
"So-called form, so-called thought. None of that matters. What truly defines intelligent life is contradiction."
"Be it desire or character, the ability to drive intelligent life to act contrary to logic is what distinguishes intelligent life from tools."
Bonois summed up Screw-Gum's words: "So in the eyes of Mr. Screw-Gum, I am a tool."
Despite saying this, Bonois did not express any resentment.
"That's not the case. It's just that compared to intelligent life, you are more like a tool." ScrewGum didn't beat around the bush and directly pointed out his point.
Bonois nodded, accepting ScrewGum's assessment. "There's nothing wrong with that. Excessive emotion will always affect judgment. This is the divine choice, the closest to the correct judgment."
"You define it as divinity." ScrewGum nodded, confirming the first half of Bonova's point, but then offered his own assessment. "Your understanding of the world stems entirely from Beyonder characteristics themselves, requiring greater humanity to reconcile."
"If language, thoughts, and even emotions were woven into characters that even inorganic life could understand. Like butterflies, whales, and you. In a sea of data, there is only one form of life."
"Then by defining the boundaries of description through the length of the field, there is no distinction between humanity and divinity."
"In my opinion, your behavior and thoughts are more like those of a child who has not received a good enough education."
ScrewGum spread out his palms. "Just like this gentleman, he's really childish."
In his hand was a transparent worm with twelve segments.
ScrewGum pointed at the monocle on his right eye. "This gentleman seems to be trying to parasitize me by taking advantage of the fact that I'm wearing a monocle."
"Children usually act according to their instincts, and you will also act according to the instincts of your extraordinary characteristics. When children have sufficient understanding of right and wrong, and know what they can and cannot do, they will grow up."
ScrewGum warned both Bonois in front of him and Amon in his opponent: "And you, when you gain humanity and have a more complete understanding of the world and right and wrong, you will be considered grown up.
"As mythical creatures, especially born mythical creatures." Screw-Gum nodded at the Time Worm in his hand, "Your concept of time is different from that of ordinary people. Therefore, for you, growth has nothing to do with age, it is more about your own experience. Experience this world." "I am only here as a guest, and I shouldn't preach to you." Screw-Gum tilted his head slightly, his gaze seemed to pass through the carriage, and looked at someone unknown.
Then, ScrewGum looked at Bonova again. "Actually, when I first arrived on this planet, I didn't appear directly at the same place. This planet is surrounded by a barrier, so I found a gap."
Bonois's eyes remained calm, as if he was unaware of what ScrewGum said.
"In that gap, I met a man who was hovering between life and death. Although I can see that he is not a good person, I still respect his heart for protecting this planet and protecting you."
"He was frantic when he saw me, but after I... communicated with him for a while, he regained some of his sanity. After he regained consciousness, he seemed to be thrilled by my personality and begged me to save his son."
"I'm sorry I used 'he' instead of 'Him' because the one I'm describing now isn't the 'Black Emperor' as you call him, but a 'Father'."
There was a fluctuation in Bonois's eyes for the first time, but it soon calmed down again.
He bowed to ScrewGum again and said, "I appreciate your instruction."
"It seems you still have a trace of humanity." ScrewGum accurately caught the look in Bonois's eyes, and a hint of laughter lingered in his voice. "You need to reconsider the difference between intelligent life and tools. For scholars, the thought itself is far more important than the result."
Seeing that Bonova started to think again and began to think from a "human" perspective, Screw Gumm stopped disturbing him and looked down at the Time Worm in his hand, which had tried to escape and commit suicide many times.
An invisible barrier separated them from Bonova, so as not to affect Bonova who had finally started to think.
"Don't parasitize randomly, or you'll get caught." His tone was flat, as if he was chatting.
"Kill me." He heard the subtle voice of the Time Worm.
"No, I won't kill you." ScrewGum shook his head, "You need a lesson."
"You might think this is fun and interesting. As a mythical creature born from the depths of nature, you view life as nothing more than an ant, a game. Their power to take and destroy is entirely up to your whim," said Grumpy, commenting on Amon's despicable behavior. "For children, games are certainly fun and interesting. But for adults, there are many ways to solve problems, and even more ways to solve 'games'. A woman once taught me what to do in such situations."
Amon ignored ScrewGum and continued to repeat: "Kill me."
"In this city, there are a total of 21,423,574 clones, correct?"
Amon fell silent.
ScrewGum paused. "No, there's another one. Harmony, joy... and reproduction. He seems to be trying to take a different path from you."
The invisible data used the time worm in Screw Gumu's hand as the base point and compiled a message to the other more than 20 million time worms.
A piece of data called "human nature".
When it comes to Amon, Screwgum is obviously not as gentle as he is to Bonova. The essence of the Time Worms has been rewritten while retaining their own will.
From now on, these time worms will not be able to replace the consciousness of the parasites, and will empathize with the parasites.
ScrewGum stretched his hand out of the window and threw the Time Worm lightly, and it parasitized a flying bird.
"You are truly an excellent teacher." The priest, with clear eyes, thanked ScrewGum beside him. "Thank you for helping me teach Him, too."
"I'm not a teacher, but I recently had a conversation with a qualified teacher. He calls himself a mediocre person and a doctor, and he has a very good method of teaching people."
PS: ScrewGum is too rational. I can’t go crazy with him around.
Does anyone else feel that there's anything about Rotogrum that doesn't fit in with his character design? I personally quite like this character and don't want to write him badly.
