Chapter 60 Brave Contract

"My name is Porzingis. I am from the province of Wall, Bavaria, in the southern continent. I am 15 years old. I swear to inherit the will of the brave and to do my utmost to uphold, preserve, and defend our world. I will believe in the truth and never disregard life. I will guide my knowledge with humanity and compassion, and I will transform all I have learned into the future of humanity."

Under the starry sky, in front of the Merlin statue on the terrace of the main castle, a long line formed in front. The freshmen stepped forward one by one, looked up into the eyes of the brave man and took the oath.

Grindelwald's teachers and students gathered around, silently witnessing and waiting until the freshmen finished taking their oaths. Dean Fofomark picked up the old map that Merlin had drawn when he explored the world, and tapped his head (representing knowledge), his shoulders (representing responsibility), and his heart (representing humanity).

"Be brave and do it. Welcome to Grindelwald, boy."

Teachers and students raised their wands and cast firework spells, making the castle terrace sparkle like a concert.

The students' fireworks were smaller, like lively firecrackers, lighting the way for their younger classmates, while the teachers' wands pointed directly at the starry sky, and even the light of the stars was obscured by the colorful arcane lights.

The freshmen will join the student ranks amid the eager gazes of their teachers and the cheers and applause of their seniors. Before that, the fireworks in the sky will not stop. This is a welcome ceremony unique to Grindelwald.

And at the end of the teaching staff.

".Hey."

A petite figure suddenly appeared and landed on the ground.

She looked around and luckily, no one was hit this time.

The only problem is that her landing point was wrong. She should have landed among the students, but somehow she landed among the teachers.

Spatial magic is unrivaled in its complexity, involving not only extensive spatial and dimensional calculations but also considerations of environmental factors that could affect the casting of the spell. Using spatial magic in a place like Grindelwald, where spatial restrictions are so severe, is extremely difficult. If the arcane masters outside of Grindelwald saw such a young girl capable of such a series of leaps, they'd probably be horrified.

Because the Great Hall hides Merlin's tomb, there are many guarding spells. She had taken those factors into consideration, but she never expected that the restrictions and magic arrays in the Great Hall would all stop working, which led to the unsuccessful movement.

But it doesn't matter, I'm so small, no one should be able to find me
"Lin."

The girl paused as she tried to sneak away, then turned around calmly and said, "He Mo, good evening."

It was an old man who called her.

If Quinn were here, he would definitely recognize this man as Ankua's immediate superior, the head of the school affairs office, and one of Grindelwald's three vice-presidents, Hemer.

Unlike the somewhat comical Fofmark, Hemmer was the kind of serious old man that students would pray they wouldn't run into. He wore tortoise-shell glasses perched on his tall, hooked nose, and his tuxedo and white shirt were neatly pressed. A small snake coiled around his collar, acting as a bow tie, hissing as it spitted its tongue. The light in its vertical pupils seemed as dangerous as its owner.

"He went to steal food again?"

"No."

".You haven't wiped the ketchup off the corner of your mouth yet."

The girl turned her head away as if nothing had happened, wiped her mouth with her sleeve, and then repeated:
"No."

Almost no students of Grindelwald are not afraid of Hemo. This old man is even more old-fashioned and strict than the dean. He is like an old beast lurking in the dark and staring at you all the time.

This fear is not without reason - Hemer is a great arcanist who has lived from the last demon-slaying war to the present. He personally built the school office into the most powerful external agency in Grindelwald's history. Even the Holy See of Light was driven away by him. There are not many people who dare to lie to him so blatantly like the girl.

But He Mo couldn't do anything about her, so he could only sigh and say, "Lin, didn't I tell you not to eat too much of these foods? They're not good for your health."

Linba blinked and said, "It will be fine after a good sleep."

"You."

Ever since Lin learned space magic half a year ago, no one can stop her from eating whatever she wants. She is the biggest rat in the college cafeteria.

"Why did you go out wearing only one shoe?"

He Mo had no choice but to lecture her about her lifestyle: "Today is the opening ceremony. You are already in the sixth grade. How can you look barefoot in front of your juniors?"

Lin looked down in confusion and found that the shoe on her left foot was gone. Her shell-like nails looked a light crescent white under the illumination of the fireworks.

"I was wearing it. But I wasn't paying attention and it fell off when I bumped into him."

Lin is a very honest child when it doesn't involve eating.

She was so lazy about putting her shoes on, stepping on the heels like slippers, which made them easy to fall off. If Quinn hadn't used his face as a cushion, the other one would have been gone too.

He Mo frowned and asked, "Who did you bump into?"

“Neapolitan pizza.”

"?"

The colorful lights in the sky attracted Lin's attention. She said, "I'm going to set off fireworks," and then disappeared from He Mo's sight.

He comes and goes freely without saying hello, just like a ghost.

"Space magic consumes too much energy, use less!" he sighed helplessly. No more than five people could teleport within the academy, and he couldn't do it either. The students quickly erupted in commotion, with shouts of "Senior Lin!", "Little Lin, come and make a big move!", and "We want to see the Armstrong Cannon!" The night was illuminated by the girls' fireworks, nearly knocking down the stars.

"Hey, this young man. When the principal comes back, I must complain to him. How can you mistake a fireworks spell for a meteor spell?"

He Mo was quite old, and the flash of the fireworks was a bit dazzling to his eyes, so he turned sideways to block the light a little, but then his eyes froze slightly——

In a corner of the brightly lit castle, the auditorium is located
Why did you turn off the lights?
"Hasn't your demon king prepared anything for you?"

In the world within the oil painting, Quinn's heart skipped a beat when he heard these words, and a premonition of doom swept over his body.

He subconsciously wanted to pull out the pistol hidden in the inner pocket of his clothes, but found that he couldn't move!
It wasn't the feeling of being restrained and unable to move, but the feeling that the body was completely out of control, as if the nerves were cut off and the soul was trapped in the flesh, and could only watch everything that was about to happen.

A white, slightly wrinkled hand reached out from behind him and easily took away the cup of "Coke". She sniffed it and then said with nostalgia:
"—Time flies! Six hundred years have passed, Cardeuros. I never thought we'd meet again."

The sound of swallowing came from behind. Quinn couldn't see her, but he knew she was drinking Coke mixed with the devil's ashes.

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh.

“Kaha——”

She let out a long sigh of relief and put the half-remaining Coke back in front of Quinn.

"Do you know who Cardeuros is?"

Quinn didn't know and couldn't speak.

"He is the great-grandfather of this generation of Demon Kings. He is known in human history as the Fifth Calamity. He was killed by the brave Jiangnan in the Dungeon of the End of the Western Continent six hundred years ago. Did your Demon King teach you this knowledge?"

She smiled, playfully saying, "He's still a child, right? Boy? Girl? Haha, he was born so hastily. I don't know if he can grow into a complete form before the end of the world. So he came up with such a stupid idea, summoning a time traveler to be his killer?"

Elegant footsteps pattered on the grass, and Quinn's shoulders were supported by her:

"Are you curious about how I know you were summoned by the Demon King?"

She bent down slightly, leaned close to Quinn's ear, and whispered with a smile, "Because I created the magic that summoned you, Earthling."

The last three words were actually standard Chinese characters!

Quinn's heart was filled with shock. This old lady was a demon?!
"I'm not a demon."

She seemed to be able to guess what Quinn was thinking, and she groped Quinn's head with one hand, as if she was polishing a stone.

"Relax, relax, I see. Haha, can the Hero's Contract be used in reverse like this?"

The hand on his shoulder pushed hard, and Quinn watched helplessly as another "self" was pushed out, empty, transparent, like a soul.

In the center of the transparent Quinn's body, there was a tiny rune glowing scarlet, with three lines twisted together, like a hideous inverted cross.

"What did He promise you to sign this master-servant contract?"

Quinn suddenly felt the reality of his mouth return to his body.

He can speak again.

".I didn't sign it, so I don't know what it is."

"You haven't signed it?" She chuckled. "The power of the Command Seal can even bind gods. This is the lowest and highest contract in this world. If you are not willing, you cannot sign it."

When did this happen? Didn't the contract exist the moment we came into this world?
In this situation, Quinn didn't want to hide anything. He had no loyalty to the Demon King anyway, so he simply confessed, "The Demon King promised that if I helped her kill the hero, she would let me return home and give me all the gold of the Demon Tribe as a reward."

"."

She seemed stunned for a moment before she asked in disbelief, "For a little gold, you signed a master-servant contract with the Demon King?"

"That's just an excuse to stay alive."

Quinn said helplessly, "I'm just an ordinary person. I've never seen any extraordinary powers before coming to this world, not even the arcane or magic, let alone demon kings and gods. I almost died when she moved her feet. Do I have any choice but to agree?"

"But..." Quinn suddenly changed the subject: "I don't mind betraying her at all. Are you the Leticia Merlin mentioned? Can we talk?"

The tombstone clearly reads "The summoning magic created by Leticia and I". The person who can appear here must be related to Merlin. She is familiar with the hero and even speaks Chinese. Her words show that she is probably frighteningly old. Her identity is obvious.

Unfortunately, he'd been so busy cramming arcane knowledge these past few days that he hadn't had time to read those brave books. A relationship so close that it deserved to be written on a tombstone must have been mentioned in the books. Quinn secretly regretted it and decided that if he could ever get out of this shabby place, he would definitely learn as much as he could.

She didn't answer yes or no, but just asked with a smile:
"Talk? Talk about what? Do you want to switch sides to the human side?"
