Chapter 67: Causes
Chapter 67: Causes (Part )
The underworld and the underworld,
The City God's Mansion in the Northern Capital was filled with a thick, sinister atmosphere, filled with a spooky aura. Ghostly immortals, underworld officials, and shady officials from all directions gathered, and the cries of ghosts and gods could be heard from time to time.
Thousands of dark lanterns are hanging in the air above the City God's Palace. The ghostly green light illuminates the pavilions and towers in the palace, adding a touch of eerie and strangeness.
The courtyard was filled with smoke and a strange smell, like the fragrance of flowers, but also like the smell of decay.
The ghosts and gods all had cold expressions on their faces, their figures appearing and disappearing in the netherworld.
The ghost king, with his green face and fangs, had a distorted and ferocious expression, and every step he took brought a chilling wind. The red-robed judge had a face as cold as ice, and the Book of Life and Death in his hand emitted a faint glow.
In the court, a ghost god dressed in a python robe sat high in the main seat. In front of him were the desk, the four treasures of the study, the seal of the city god, the gavel, and the order-drawing box. Each of them emitted a ray of light, and the hall was filled with awe-inspiring majesty.
Behind the ghost, there is a pair of peach charms hanging. On the left is written "Sacrificed for the country with loyalty, shouldered the burden of danger for the king, and truly established the Han Dynasty", and on the right is written "Sacrificed his life for the master, and went into danger for the master, and praised his noble character". Each word has a faint light emerging, which clearly shows that it has retained its power.
This demonic deity, with a prominent face, a beautiful beard, and a burly figure, sat upon the throne of the City God, his eyes flickering as he reviewed the documents on the desk. He annotated or corrected each document, his vermilion ink glowing red, monitoring good and evil.
"A letter from the government in the mortal world,"
Just as Ji Xin was handling official business in the underworld, a divine light suddenly shone in from the City God Temple in the world of the living and landed above the City God's Mansion. In the divine light, a roll of cloth slowly unfolded, and Yin and Yang characters flew around the cloth.
"It's Jingzhao Yin Yu Qingze," Ji Xin said with an indifferent expression. He slowly opened his palm. The cloth immediately retracted its divine light and slowly fell into Ji Xin's hand.
He unfolded the cloth, read its contents, snorted, and said, "What a bold fox demon! How dare you break the law and act recklessly under my nose? You deserve to be killed!"
Ji Xin became furious, and a strange phenomenon appeared in the underworld. The earth shook, and all the ghost officials in the train were terrified when they saw this.
The Wonderful Scripture of the Taishang Laojun on the City God's Inspiration to Eliminate Disasters and Accumulate Blessings states: "He governs the world on behalf of Heaven, eliminates evil and eliminates misfortune, protects the country and the nation, bestows merits upon the state, bestows blessings upon the people, and saves all. He governs eighteen true officials and commands millions of divine generals. He accumulates merits and deeds, holds power over the world, and commands the might of all nations."
This is indicative of the power of the City God, who governs the Eighteen True Officials, has accumulated merits and virtues, and is considered one of the best among the gods.
Ji Xin shouted, "Where are Generals Gan, Liu, Fan, and Xie?"
"The end will be here,"
Generals Gan, Liu, Fan and Xie came out and bowed in response.
Ji Xin gently threw the cloth out, which transformed into a stream of light and landed in General Gan's hands. He said, "I order you to lead five thousand Yin soldiers into the Yang world to capture the demon fox and restore order to Yin and Yang."
General Gan held the cloth in his hands and said in a deep voice, "I will obey the king's order."
There are three dukes and six assistants in front of the City God Temple, which are analogous to the three dukes and nine ministers in the human world. The four generals Gan, Liu, Fan and Xie are among the six assistants, with great magical powers and powerful supernatural powers.
When the Yin-Yang Judge saw the four ghost generals leave with their orders, he stepped out to report to the City God, saying, "Your Majesty, I have just examined the Book of Life and Death and have seen this demon's past and present lives."
Ji Xin said calmly, "Then, can you see why this monster is breaking the law?" The Yin-Yang Judge replied respectfully, "Your Majesty, the Book of Life and Death clearly records that this monster was born in the third year of the Taishi period of the Western Jin Dynasty. It is a branch of the Tushan Fox Clan. After many generations, this branch is no longer a celestial fox and will not be admitted to the Heavenly Court."
"This evil creature committed sins in his previous life, so he was born with defects, and his Tao body is incomplete. However, he has a heart that seeks Tao, and after three hundred years of hard practice, he finally gained a human body."
"Later, he heard stories from his clan, and learned that Liu's ancestors had married the Tushan clan and received a treasure as a gift from the Tushan fox, which was passed down from generation to generation. This gave rise to greed and anger, and his heart became unstable. He sneaked into Daxing, intending to steal the Liu family's heirloom, and achieved enlightenment by using the Dharma treasure."
The Book of Life and Death in the netherworld not only records the lifespan of all living beings, but also records in detail each person's fate from birth to death.
After learning what had happened, Ji Xin smiled and shook his head, saying, "You ignorant fox! Haven't you heard that only when one has perfected good deeds and a pure mind can one ascend to the immortal path and be listed in the heavenly talisman? Someone like him is so obsessed with scheming, only wanting to achieve enlightenment through shortcuts, not realizing that he has already entered the devil's way."
------
Secretariat,
As a junior, Lu Shang met with the Secretary-General Niu Hong and the Secretary-General Wang Chong, and after obtaining the consent of the two officials of the Secretariat, he slowly walked to the Yi Zi Library.
"Brother Han,"
He stood in front of the door of Office B, poked his head in, looked inside, and called out softly.
"Brother Lu,"
Han Jin, who was reading a rare copy of the Taoist Canon in his office, was startled when he saw Lu Shang suddenly sticking his head out of the door.
Seeing Han Jin's stunning appearance, with her beautiful face pale, Lu Shang smiled and said, "Brother Han, Brother Han, your appearance is almost like that of a fairy concubine. It's only because you are a man. If you were a woman, I would really want to marry you home!"
If we were to ask who Lu Shang got along best with during his time at the Secretariat, it would have to be Han Jin, the splendid young man. It wasn't because Han Jin was beautiful and well-mannered, but because Han Jin, like Lu Shang, yearned for the immortal path and had a heart to seek the truth.
Because Han Jin was in charge of the Yizi Library, Lü Shang often went to borrow Daoist scriptures from him. Over time, they became acquaintances, discussing the Dao and forming a close friendship. Sometimes, the so-called congenial nature is just that simple.
Hearing this, Han Jin shook his head and said, "Brother Lu, please stop teasing me. Being beautiful is also a source of worry. Sometimes I really want to give up everything and become a monk to seek immortality and learn the Dao. Perhaps after becoming an immortal, I will be free from all these worries."
"One man and his flute, or riding a yellow crane, out of the sea of clouds, into Penglai, to pay homage to the heavens and to the earthly emperor, this is what it means to be free and at ease. But it is a pity, alas, that there is no hope of freedom in this life!"
Seeing Han Jin's eagerness, Lu Shang spread his hands and said, "You, don't even think about living a carefree life in this life. Just get married and have children, and continue the Han family's legacy."
You have to know that Han Jin's family is small. His father has only two sons. The eldest son died early, and his nephews are still young. He is the only one who can support the family. With the heavy responsibility of the family on his shoulders, how can he allow himself to seek immortals and Taoism, and live a free and easy life.
"Brother Lu, aren't you the vanguard of the Northern Expedition? You're supposed to follow King Kaoshan to sweep the north and build great achievements. How can you have the leisure to come to the Secretariat and joke with me?" Han Jin just sighed at Lu Shang's words, then composed himself and asked softly.
This time it was Lu Shang's turn to sigh. He said, "I don't have the leisure to come and tease Brother Han."
"This time, there's an urgent order from the military, ordering me to lead my troops to the northern border in three days. I came to the Secretariat to borrow some books on Turkic geography, culture, and even military equipment. I'm thirsty and digging for something!"
