Chapter 287 Detective Stark

In the basement of the Sanctuary, Stark traces back to what happened there.

Inside the magical cell, Stark saw Sandman, Electric Man, Lizard Man, and Mechanical Octopus Tentacle Man. The only one outside, "Norman," was also sent into the magical cell through a portal after Strange appeared.

Stark discovers that the Strange in this universe is dressed exactly like himself, and both have an Eye of Agamotto pendant on their chests.

Stark immediately identified Strange as the Sorcerer Supreme of this universe.

Besides the strange people in the cell and "Sorcerer Supreme" Strange, Stark also saw three young people in the flashback: a curly-haired girl, a chubby boy, and a kid in a red and blue bodysuit.

The boy in the tights fit the look of a superhero, and Stark noticed the Spider-Man symbol on his clothes.

"Is this kid Spider-Man?" Stark asked, turning back to the roadside.

“It should be,” Lu Bian replied. “It has a Peter Parker feel to it.”

"Is he me?"

Peter, standing beside him on the roadside, frowned as he looked at the young man "Peter Parker" in the illusory image of the past.

Peter is looking at Peter.

Peter in the illusory image looked very young, no more than twenty years old.

Peter the Spider looked weathered and appeared to be over thirty years old.

“I have a very strong feeling that all the problems are caused by my version of this world,” Peter said.

“…Keep reading,” Stark said.

The illusory image continued to demonstrate, proving Peter was right.

When the Sorcerer Supreme Stark saw Strange take out the ancient artifact, the Kandawu Device, he knew very well what this magical artifact could do.

"It's a Kafkaesque spell."

Tony Stark studied the incantation sealed within the Kandawu device for a while, and determined what the "Sorcerer Supreme" Strange was about to do.

Strange was about to use the Kandawu device to neutralize the effects of the "Kafka spells" that were producing the effect, but he was stopped by the naive and arrogant young Spider-Man, Peter Parker.

In the afterimage, Spider-Man Peter Parker shoots a web from his hand and steals the Kandaweapon device, which is the final step in neutralizing the spell's effects. The Sorcerer Supreme, Strange, chases after Spider-Man Peter and leaves. Only Spider-Man Peter returns, releasing all the otherworldly visitors from the magical prison and leaving with them.

"How dare he?!" Stark asked the young Spider-Man Peter, somewhat angrily.

"If it weren't for this kid causing trouble, we wouldn't have been suddenly moved to this world."

“Stark, can you handle this?” Logan asked.

“Our method of returning is very simple. We just need to find the Kandawu device, press down the central component, and the effects of the Kafka spell will be reset,” Stark explained earnestly to Logan.

“Great, let’s go find this spider boy now,” Logan said.

"Don't rush, let me think about it more carefully."

Stark walked around the Sanctum Sanctorum, unaware of the conversations or the events leading up to them, as the Phantoms of Recall were silent.

However, Stark integrated the information from the images to make inferences, and also made connections with some information they saw on their way to the Sanctuary.

Kafka's spell is a spell that causes oblivion, but its misuse can have unexpected and serious consequences. Their arrival in New York City from the void is a prime example of such a "serious" consequence.

Stark reasoned that Spider-Boy Peter needed people to forget something, which is why he sought the help of "Sorcerer Supreme" Strange.

What they wanted people to forget, Stark and his crew saw on the street while they were on their way.

Spider-Boy seems to have killed a good man, and his true identity behind the spider mask has been revealed to the world: Spider-Man is Peter Parker.

"..." Having gradually deduced the whole story, Tony Stark looked towards the roadside.

"What's wrong?" someone asked Tony from the roadside.

“If you hadn’t said Peter Parker is Spider-Man, we wouldn’t have been moved to this world,” Tony replied. “In this accident, everyone who was moved to this world knew that Peter Parker is Spider-Man.”

"Well, it's my fault."

"I just don't understand why Spider-Boy would steal the Kanda Weapon in the end." Stark was utterly puzzled; he couldn't keep up with the young Peter's train of thought.

“I think he probably feels he made a mistake and wants to correct it,” Peter Spider-Man said.

“I feel that… the boy Peter learned about the experiences of the people in the prison cell in their own world, and learned what Peter in that world had done to them, and he wanted to make amends.”

"For example... the lizardmen."

"I remembered the lizard people I used to know..."

"His name is Kurt Connors, and he is trying to help the disabled regain their damaged limbs by studying the regeneration of severed limbs in lizards."

"His research was not successful; he eventually turned himself into a lizard monster."

"..."

“I was being studied, and Kurt Connors was one of them. I turned into a spider, and he turned into a lizard…”

As they talked, Peter, the older young man, laughed.

"When I was young, I had too much empathy and too much sense of justice."

"I understand what the Spider-Boy in this world might be thinking."

"Then why did you join the U.S. Army?" asked the roadside, puzzled.

"Let's drop this topic," Logan said.

Logan and Lu Bian exchanged glances. This was a topic they often discussed in their chat group, and each time it was started by US President Bruce Wayne Sr.

"Let's find them."

Logan's nose twitched; he was using his beastly sense of smell to track the Spider Boy and the otherworldly visitor.

“They smelled strongly of sewage, and it seemed like more than one person had spent time in the sewers,” Logan said, frowning.

"I'm so lucky, this smell is so unique."

Finding a few people in New York City, a metropolis in a completely unfamiliar universe, is incredibly difficult. Fortunately, Logan has a keen sense of smell, and Stark, Lubian, and young Peter follow Logan to find them.

As darkness fell, Logan followed the scent to the foot of a high-end apartment building.

Logan stopped and looked at a white van parked in front of the apartment building.

“The smell inside… is extremely strong.” Logan’s muscles tensed, ready for battle at any moment.

“What’s inside?” Stark asked.

“A reptile,” Logan replied.

“Don’t worry.” Stark gestured for Logan, Lubian, and Peter to help.

Stark approached the white van, whose cargo door was unlocked.

Peter and Lu Bian walked quietly to the cargo box, closed the cargo box door, and Stark placed his hands on the truck bed, using magic to transform the cargo box into a sturdy magical cage, trapping Professor Kurt Connors, the lizard, inside.

"Have a good sleep."

Feeling that Stark's magic was still somewhat unreliable, Lu Bian used his magnetic field to hypnotize Professor Lizard, letting him sleep peacefully in the cargo box.

"Let's go upstairs." Logan extended his steel claws, broke the access control of the first-floor apartment, and led the three of them inside.
