Chapter 359 The Buddha's Nirvana
Chapter 359 The Buddha's Nirvana
Why is the Golden Peak Immortal called the Golden Peak Immortal?
It's because he has a head that reflects golden light.
At this moment, only the bald head of the Golden-Crowned Immortal, who was trapped in the rocks, was sticking out.
"No, you can't do this!" the Golden Peak Immortal shouted.
"Who told you to be so annoying, blocking my way up the mountain?"
They ripped off the beard of the Golden Peak Immortal from the roadside and transplanted it onto his head.
"You should thank me, now your baldness is cured too," someone on the roadside said.
The melodious sound of bells echoed from Lingshan Mountain, and the sound lingered for a long time after it began.
"Waaah..." The Golden Peak Immortal shed tears.
"Why are you crying? You should be happy to have hair now," someone on the roadside said.
“The Buddha… has passed away,” said the Golden-Crowned Immortal.
"Huh?" The person on the roadside was taken aback.
"What does 'entering Nirvana' mean?" he asked the Golden Peak Immortal.
The Golden Peak Immortal stared at the roadside without offering any explanation.
"Then I'll just interpret it haphazardly."
"Is Buddha no longer here?"
The Golden Peak Immortal turned his head away, his brain trapped in the rocks by the roadside, his range of motion extremely limited.
"I'll go up and have a look."
They walked out of Yuzhen Temple by the roadside and headed towards Lingshan Mountain.
……
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva and the monks ascended Vulture Peak, where they waited together outside the gate of the Great Thunder Temple for Chenxiang and Pingping to come up.
"Are we too late?" the monk asked Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva.
"Not late, but just right," Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva replied calmly.
The monk looked strange.
According to Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, he should be a corpse. Even if his spirit is not destroyed, he is still a conscious corpse. However, the actual situation is the opposite. His heart is beating strongly, his blood is flowing continuously, all his organs are working normally, his body temperature is normal, and his thinking and memory are without any problems.
The monk reached out and poked Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva with his finger.
"What are you doing?" Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva looked at the monk.
"What would you do if you were a corpse?" the monk asked.
"I won't be a corpse."
"If you don't believe me, you can feel my pulse."
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva handed his wrist to the monk, who then took Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva's pulse.
The pulse of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva is steady and he is very healthy.
"Am I a living person?" asked Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva.
“…I understand.” The monk frowned.
Pingping helped Chenxiang climb the last stone step, both of them sweating profusely.
After Pingping rested for a while and regained her strength, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva led the three of them into the gate of the Great Thunder Temple.
No one came to greet them.
Pingping gripped Chenxiang's hand tightly, her palms sweaty.
With the Buddha's passing away, all the important figures in Buddhism should have gathered. The last time so many Buddhas and Bodhisattvas were at Mount Ling was five hundred years ago when Xuanzang of the Tang Dynasty arrived at Mount Ling to seek the true scriptures.
"Something's not right." Chenxiang looked around.
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva glanced back at Chenxiang and led the three of them into the Mahavira Hall.
There are no statues of Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, or Arhats inside the Great Thunderclap Temple, because all the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and Arhats in the Great Thunderclap Temple are real. There are only murals on the walls that record the stories that have happened.
However, upon entering the main hall, Chenxiang saw that the hall was filled with lifelike stone statues, with the Buddha statues having lowered eyes and expressions that seemed to be both crying and laughing.
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva is speaking to the stone statues.
"Disciple...receives the decree."
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva clasped his hands together, lowered his head, and seemed to be listening intently to something. "Chenxiang, look, that is my father."
Among the stone statues of the Bodhisattvas, the statue of the Mighty King Bodhisattva is the tallest, and his bull-headed, human-bodied form is particularly striking.
"Is that the Victorious Fighting Buddha?"
On a lotus platform, a stone monkey, no more than four feet tall, sat crouching with his eyes closed, his hands covering his ears, and his mouth tightly shut.
"what happened?"
Chenxiang's spiritual perception was the second highest among the four people in the main hall. He looked at the thousands of stone statues in the Mahavira Hall with a chill running down his spine, feeling as if all the Buddha statues were alive.
"Alright, let's hurry down the mountain before the bell stops ringing."
"Mount Ling is going to be closed." Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva turned around and said to Chenxiang and the others.
"What's going on here? Why isn't there a single living person?" the monk wondered.
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva shook his head.
“You are wrong. They are all alive, but they are not in this world; they have gone to the past. They are waiting for us in the future,” said Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva.
"Why?" Chenxiang couldn't understand.
"Because the Buddha has passed away," Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva explained to Chenxiang.
"Then why didn't you turn into a stone statue and go to the afterlife?" Chenxiang asked.
"Because I have accepted the Buddha's entrustment to guide and liberate sentient beings in the six realms in this world without a Buddha, until the birth of Maitreya Buddha," said Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva.
"Are you the only one left behind, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva? Why is it you?"
"Who said I am a person? Don't I still have my mortal body?" Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva looked at the monk.
"Wait a minute, what about the mounts of the Bodhisattvas and Buddhas? Is no one going to take care of them?" the monk asked worriedly.
“They will stay in the sacred sites of all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas and will not run away to cause trouble,” said Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva.
"Really?"
……
A brightly colored bird flew overhead as people climbed the 50,480 steps leading up to Lingshan Mountain.
"Ok?"
Looking up from the roadside, I saw a large bird flying overhead also glancing down at the roadside.
The large bird opened its beak and swallowed the roadside whole.
The giant bird flew away from Mount Ling amidst the sound of the bell, and seeing the bustling crowds of the Buddhist kingdom on the ground, it wanted to open its mouth and devour the mortals.
"Cough! Cough cough!!"
The big bird suddenly felt a strong itch on its neck, as if something was moving inside it, interrupting its appetite.
"Cough cough cough..."
The large bird coughed uncontrollably, landed on the ground, and transformed into a woman.
She is the Buddha Mother Peacock King Bodhisattva.
When the Buddha attained his sixteen-foot golden body on the snowy mountain, the peacock swallowed him. The Buddha then cut open the peacock's back and came out, intending to take its life. However, the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas persuaded him, "Your Majesty came out of its body; to harm it is to harm your own mother." Thus, the Buddha forgave the peacock's sins and bestowed upon it the title of Buddha Mother Peacock King Bodhisattva.
Because it was bestowed the title of Bodhisattva rather than attained the Bodhisattva status through its own cultivation, the peacock did not go to another world, but remained in this world.
She sneaked out of Lingshan before it was closed to the public. The Golden Peak Immortal at the foot of Lingshan could have kept the peacock on the mountain, but it flew away from Lingshan because it appeared by the roadside.
"Cough...cough cough!!"
The peacock coughed incessantly, pounding its chest and coughing so hard that it coughed up the roadside.
"You, a mere mortal, were not digested by me?" The peacock looked shocked.
"Huh? Are you that bird?"
He was covered in sticky residue by the roadside, so he used static electricity to clean it off.
"What kind of monster are you? How dare you eat people in broad daylight?"
"Ha, it's your honor to be eaten by me. I am the mother of the Buddha, the Peacock King Bodhisattva." The peacock said proudly.
"Where is this? We're no longer in Ling Mountain?"
"Of course, I have already flown out of Mount Ling," the peacock replied.
