Chapter 365 is not revenge
Chapter 365 is not revenge
Two of the three heads of the Chimera Beast expressed their contempt for the old water snake's behavior of "intimidating the younger ones when it can't beat the older ones."
"Roar." The lion roared in a very disdainful voice.
"As expected," said the water snake's tail.
"So it's here for revenge, right?" Cohen said, covering his face. "How did you scare its son before?"
"While it was out hunting during the day, I sneaked into its den and pretended to eat the baby griffin..." the old water snake said. "That little guy is quite bold. Every time I peeked out and opened my mouth to bite it, it wasn't afraid at all. It only cried when I tried to take the meat from it."
"That's really unethical," Water Snake Tail criticized.
"That's really unethical." Sissoko, who was just watching the drama unfold, nodded.
[A little lacking]
Cohen initially wanted to stand on moral high ground and offer his opinions—but then he suddenly realized that he wasn't much better himself.
I've done things like snatching lollipops from kids before.
"Sigh... boomerang..." Cohen's pointing and gesturing eventually turned into a sigh.
"Let the lion apologize to it on your behalf," the goat offered a solution. "We can go with you to prevent any serious incidents from happening."
"[Sheephead, you're so considerate!]" The old water snake, shaking off its previous dejection and shame, immediately perked up. "[Let's go together. If it's got the guts, let it get revenge and scare my cubs—]"
"What a face..." the water snake said helplessly.
"His mental state is too healthy. Are all the magical creatures in Greece like this?" Cohen asked the goat. "Or is it just the magical creatures I encounter that are like this?"
"It's hard to say," the goat said reservedly.
-
At first, Cohen thought the goat's "It's hard to say" was just that the goat didn't want to criticize its foster father...
It wasn't until Cohen led the old water serpent and the chimera to the Forbidden Forest and found the griffin that he realized the goat wasn't trying to save face for the old water serpent, but rather to avoid criticizing the entire group of Greek magical creatures...
"Wow!"
The griffin, which was resting in the woods, was startled when it noticed Cohen and the other monsters quietly approaching. It let out a cry as if it had just woken up.
But as soon as it saw the old water snake, it immediately became alert and pounced on it.
"Hey... it's you—" the old water snake said, puzzled.
"Roar..." The lion blocked the old water snake, raised its front paws and pinned the griffin to the ground, letting out a threatening growl from its throat.
"Screech!" The griffin squirmed uneasily under the lion's claws and cried out anxiously.
"Roar?"
"Wow!"
"Roar……"
“Now I know why the Earl was so upset when he heard me and Sissoko talking,” Cohen sighed.
The lion released the griffin, and without the lion's obstruction, the griffin immediately rushed to the old water snake, calling out to it repeatedly as if it were complaining.
"Huh? What did you say? I don't understand—" The old water snake dodged the griffin's approaching head in confusion; this situation was still too bizarre for a long-horned water snake.
"Wow—"
“Roar…” the lion roared. [The lion said, “This griffin’s father is dead, and it wants you to take it to avenge him.”] The goat translated for the old water snake.
It wasn't that the father was seeking revenge, but rather that the son had come to seek refuge with an old acquaintance...
"Dead?" the old water snake said in shock.
"You did this?" Cohen looked at the old water snake. "So you're a cunning old man—"
"It would be a miracle if I could beat its dad!" the old water snake quickly protested, "When we were stealing the fish, it was only its dad scratching me; I didn't even fight back—"
The griffin huddled dejectedly next to the old water snake, then let out a few cries.
The old water snake reflexively patted it with its tail in a gesture of comfort.
"Roar."
The lion broadcasted live, sounding somewhat weary.
[It said that after losing its parents, you are the closest creature to it...] The goat was a little doubtful that it had misunderstood what the lion was trying to convey.
"I know that." Cohen nodded thoughtfully. "Stockholm syndrome, where victims develop feelings of sympathy for their long-term abusers... Your guilt level has increased a little again—"
"I only stole a piece of its fish a few years ago!" the old water snake said. "It's not fair to make such a fuss about me..."
Since only lions can understand the griffin's call—Cohen felt it was more of an emotional exchange, as such simple syllables couldn't possibly convey anything complex—the responsibility of communication fell entirely on the lions.
After enduring half an hour of the roars of lions and the cries of eagles, Cohen finally learned the cause and effect of the matter through the information chain of griffin-lion-goat.
This young griffin's mother died long ago, and its father spent most of his time hunting, so it actually spent far more time with the old water snake than with its father when it was young.
"That's so melodramatic..." Cohen shook his head. "Two lonely old fathers."
The old water snake didn't say a word; it now understood why this little thing was never afraid of it...
"Its father probably didn't intend to really hurt you; I didn't see any marks on your body." Cohen looked around at the old water snake, stroking his chin, and said, "It probably already considered you two friends—of course, it's possible you shed all the marks when you molted..."
"No friend would scratch that hard," the old water snake said petulantly. "Besides, its father stole so many of my fish—"
"Are you going to avenge it?" the goat asked the old water snake. "It was a group of poaching wizards who attacked its father; it remembers their scent."
"Me?" The old water snake turned its head away, unwilling to dwell on the matter. "...I won't make the decision. It's not like I raised it...besides, wizards are quite scary for snakes...you decide..."
"Then I won't go." Cohen raised his eyebrows, deliberately probing, "Greece is very far away..."
"Are you really not going?" The old water snake glanced at the griffin curled up beside it, then at Cohen, and finally at the Chimera Beast. "Aren't you going either?"
[Are you really not going? Really, really not going?]
The old water snake looked at Cohen and the few other cold-looking creatures, and said incredulously,
This little thing is so pitiful—are you really not going?
"My precious grandson?" The old water snake wriggled closer to Cohen. "Don't you want to go to Greece? It's so much fun there—"
"Are you in a hurry? Just say so if you want to go." Cohen, seeing the old water snake's anxious look, relented with satisfaction. "You insist on making us take the initiative. At your age, you still have no sense of responsibility..."
"You guys!" the old water snake said angrily.
