Chapter 420 Mad Dog
Umbridge's breathing stopped abruptly.

The invisible monstrous creature behind her seemed to have opened its mouth, and disgusting liquid was dripping from the monster's mouth onto the back of Umbridge's neck.

The filth, the stench, the maddening stuff that soaked the back of her collar drove her completely hysterical.

The thing behind me is a filthy, vile monster, and it's not illegal to use an unforgivable curse on a monster—

Connelly will understand...

"Avada Kedavra!"

Suddenly, she hurled a ghastly green curse behind her.

"Mommy!" The little snake monster jumped out like a spring in fright.

"Calm down, calm down," Cohen reassured her.

With me watching over them, nothing dangerous will happen.

It's just a death curse...

The spell was blocked by Cohen's instantaneous soul materialization just as the little serpent monster jumped up.

Umbridge turned around and only saw a fleeting black shadow and heard some low hissing sounds.

Hearing the noise, she grasped at it like a lifeline and began frantically throwing spells at any sound source.

Snapped!
A crack appeared in the wall where the plates were hung.

Snapped!
Fudge's picture frame was blown into the trash can.

Snapped!
"Dolores, what are you doing?!"

Professor McGonagall, dressed in her pajamas, stood in the open doorway of her office and deflected the Stunning Charm that Umbridge had thrown at the door with a wave of her wand.

Filch followed behind her, looking timid.

Filch had never seen anything like this before, and could only hide behind McGonagall and steal peeks inside from time to time.

Filch, who was on patrol, was the first to notice the commotion, but since it was a professor's office, Filch, being the dud he was, chose to call another professor to handle it.

"There are monsters in the castle!" Umbridge said sharply, her usual lilting tone gone. "You must explain why such things are in the school—otherwise—"

"Where are the monsters?" Professor McGonagall asked, frowning. "I didn't see any monsters escape when I came here."

"They are invisible, and they have scales—"

"Bite her now?" the old water snake asked. "I'm not poisonous—"

"I want one too! I want one too!" said the little snake monster.

"That's effective enough—hide now, be ready to escape at any moment," Cohen said.

“Listen!” Umbridge heard the hissing sound next to her again, but she was so eager to prove the existence of the monster that she forgot to control the volume of her voice.

Her scream drowned out the whispering hiss.

"They're right next to me!"

"Calm down, Dolores, come here." Professor McGonagall hadn't heard the monster's voice because of Umbridge's shrill shouts, but considering the safety of the students in the castle, she still had to check the area.

Professor McGonagall closed the office door.

“Professors, shouldn’t I be outside instead of…” Filch saw the door slam shut, and he was still inside, with two terrifying invisible monsters possibly inside… “I’ll handle it, Argus,” Professor McGonagall said.

But Filch was still a little scared, so he quietly crept to the door and slipped out.

It was during this opportunity that the old water snake and the little snake monster quickly followed Filch and darted out—although during the escape, the old water snake's tail was pinched by Filch.

"Awooo!" the old water snake cried out in pain. "You dare to pinch my tail? I'll gore you to death!"

"Don't make a fuss," Cohen whispered. "If all else fails, go back and let the lion lick you."

Is this called...?

【**!】The little basilisk once again demonstrated its vocabulary from the count, but how exactly it understands human speech...

The only creatures in the box that could understand human speech were Sissoko and the water snake tail of Chimeramon.

"Wait outside for a bit, I'll go in and check on the results." Cohen left the two of them waiting outside while he went back through the wall into the office.

“It must still be here!” Umbridge said menacingly.

Professor McGonagall looked around.

To be honest, apart from the mess left by Umbridge, Professor McGonagall couldn't see any signs of monster damage here.

Moreover, Umbridge wasn't injured at all. Surely the monster couldn't have appeared here just to scare her?

"Reveal your true form." Professor McGonagall first used the Reveal Charm to circle the room.

After circling around, they found nothing, and the monster Umbridge had mentioned stopped making noise and launching attacks—which made Professor McGonagall even more convinced that this was a fabrication.

But to make sure she hadn't missed anything and to prevent the possibility of monsters, Professor McGonagall used more complex spells to test for any living creatures in the area—and the answer was no.

Unless Peeves has the guts to disturb a professor's work in the middle of the night, Umbridge is definitely lying.

"Isn't it a bit too deliberate for the Ministry of Magic to try to blame Hogwarts for security issues in this way?" Professor McGonagall said coldly. "I haven't found anything hidden in this room."

“Look at those marks—” Umbridge tried to point to the places where the two monsters had crawled, like a plate that had been knocked over or a damp S-shaped mark on the wall.

But her face quickly turned a deep liver color.

Every trace of her magic was blasted beyond recognition by her shattering spell.

“I can’t imagine a monster sneaking into a castle full of magical restrictions in the middle of the night, just to become invisible and scare you,” Professor McGonagall said.

“A student!” Umbridge snapped. “I know who it is—that Cohen Norton! He looked at me with ill intent at the party!”

"Baseless accusations!" Professor McGonagall's eyes blazed with fury as she said angrily, "I'd like to know why you would suspect my students without any evidence whatsoever! They're all sleeping in their dorms right now!"

“I’m going to check their dormitories right now,” Umbridge said angrily.

“No,” Professor McGonagall replied bluntly. “Their first class tomorrow morning is Transfiguration, and I won’t allow you to disturb their sleep.”

“Oh, you mean…you’re going to protect them?” Umbridge said haughtily, as if she had found a flaw. “You know, breaking into the office of the Second Undersecretary of Magic in the middle of the night is a serious offense. I can contact Cornelius immediately and report that Hogwarts is trying to eavesdrop on secrets through students—”

"How dare you slander me like this—" Professor McGonagall roared, her anger blazing. "I've finally seen through it—"

“Then let’s not interfere with official business.” Umbridge strode out of the house like a victorious rooster. “That Cohen Norton is a troublemaker that the Minister specifically asked to keep a close eye on. He is very likely directly related to the Azkaban riots. If we protect him, I can interpret it as Hogwarts’ attempt to overthrow the Ministry of Magic as a betrayal.”
