Chapter 445 Eat as much as you can while you can

“Why do you all have to ask about this…” Hagrid said irritably. “I’m not praising you, but some people call you nosy and meddlesome.”

"I'm not human, so I can meddle in other people's business."

Cohen said, without a doubt,

“You can tell me this ‘weapon’ and then I’ll tell Harry and the others, and the result will be the same, but you won’t have leaked any secrets.”

“Tell us first, and then we’ll tell you,” Harry insisted, still wanting to know what had happened to Hagrid.

"Alright, alright..." Hagrid muttered, flipping the dragon meat over and applying it to his face.

"Didn't I tell you last semester that we were going to France with Olme—that is, Ms. Maxime? But actually, we're going to find some of the remaining giants in England..."

Hagrid mentioned that the Ministry of Magic was tracking them, so they had to shake them off.

"They have so much energy to track us down, but not a single bit of energy to think about how to deal with Voldemort?" Harry said angrily.

Hagrid shuddered upon hearing Voldemort's name.

“Harry, you know, most people are afraid of his return, just like Fudge,” Hagrid said. “Tracking me and Orim is safer than tracking Vader, which is why Dumbledore felt there was no need for the Ministry of Magic to cooperate at this stage… Their hearts have long been broken, and they’ve become even more broken knowing Voldemort is really back…”

“A person who thinks they’re bound to lose can’t beat anyone,” Cohen said. “It’s like someone who thinks they can’t cast spells is practically a Muggle.”

"Where did you learn that phrase?" Harry asked in surprise.

“Can’t it be my own idea?” Cohen retorted. “I often cultivate my own philosophical persona, okay? Otherwise, I always feel like someone will say, ‘Nico Flamel’s Philosopher’s Stone was fed to the dogs’…”

“Dumbledore said something similar, that we should never lose our courage no matter what,” Hagrid said. “Of course, if we didn’t have that spirit, we wouldn’t have joined the Order of the Phoenix—oh—should I…”

“It’s okay, we already know. I’ll be staying at headquarters during the summer vacation,” Harry said.

“Hagrid, you haven’t told anyone else about this, have you…” Hermione asked with a worried expression.

“How could that be? I haven’t spoken more than two words to anyone except Orim,” Hagrid said. “Then, after we shook off the Ministry of Magic, Orim and I used some magic and were back in northern England in less than a week. It took us several days to find the mountain where the giants lived…”

Next is the story of Hagrid sending gifts to the giant Gogo (leader) Kakus, but two days later the giants suddenly started fighting amongst themselves, and the new Gogo Gogoma was bribed by the Death Eaters and launched an attack on Hagrid and his companions.

“Voldemort has done quite a few things too,” Cohen nodded.

"Were these injuries inflicted by them back then?" Hermione asked.

"More or less..." Hagrid said sadly.

"Shouldn't you have been back by now?" Harry asked.

“That won’t do. Dumbledore is counting on us,” Hagrid said, as if he had been insulted. “We have to go back.”

“But you say you can’t go back, the giants are all hostile towards you,” Ron said, frowning. “Only those in the valley, and some giants who don’t want to stand tall in Madangugo, they’re hiding in caves…”

Hagrid's story is nearing its end. Most of the giants hiding in the cave were eventually killed by the tall horses, and those who survived refused to say another word to Hagrid and his companions.

“I understand,” Cohen said. “Just like the Dementors, the Death Eaters said they could lead them to attack humans for food. Sending them some Grubbish fire and goblin-made helmets and other toys isn’t enough to cover a long-term meal ticket…”

If Cohen were Dumbledore, he would definitely find a way to kill all the remaining dozens of giants to stop them from causing trouble—but Dumbledore certainly wouldn't do that, otherwise why would he be called Dumbledore?

“It’s your turn,” Hagrid said. “Tell me your story. Why was Harry attacked by the Dementors?”

“Because that Dementor came to ask me to come along after all the Dementors in Azkaban had been taken away by Voldemort.” Cohen added a bit of artistic embellishment, “You know, they always thought I was having a hard time and not having anything to eat—that I should eat more when I can.”

"So it actually wanted to capture me and Dali and give them to you to eat?" Harry's eyes widened.

“That’s about it,” Cohen said. “But it was disgusted by your guardian spirit, so it stayed on Privet Road until after you left before daring to come to my house.”

"While you were in Greece?" Hagrid exclaimed, suddenly realizing something. "Wait—what did you just say—the Mysterious Man took all the Dementors from Azkaban?!"

“Yes.” The three of them nodded in unison.

Hagrid jumped to his feet.

“No, I have to tell Dumbledore…” Hagrid said anxiously.

“Dumbledore already knows about this, Hagrid.” Harry tugged at Hagrid’s sleeve, which was already big enough to be his coat. “Didn’t you read the newspaper?”

“I haven’t had time to read the newspapers these days—the birds in the deep mountains have all been shot down and roasted by those giants, and the owls don’t dare to go near there,” Hagrid said. After hearing that Dumbledore already knew the news, Hagrid painfully covered his face and sat down.

“Then, at the beginning of the semester, a new professor sent by the Ministry of Magic arrived, named Dolores Umbridge,” Hermione said.

"The Ministry of Magic has sent a tutor to Hogwarts?" Hagrid asked uneasily. "Is it to spy on Dumbledore?"

“That’s how it used to be,” Ron chuckled, covering his mouth. “But she was fired less than three days after becoming a professor—because she turned into a monster and attacked students in class.”

"To turn into a monster and attack students is too..." Hagrid said in disbelief. It sounded too absurd—would the Ministry of Magic send a monster teacher to attack students?

Their own children are still attending Hogwarts.

Harry recounted in detail to Hagrid what had happened to Umbridge, including how she had locked Harry and Cohen in solitary confinement and how she had transformed into a grey shark monster in class.

"So, did you get a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher?" Hagrid asked. "The semester has just started, and this position can't be vacant for too long..."

"Guess what?" Harry covered his mouth and laughed. "You know him. If you guess right, I'll tell you something really funny about Cohen."

“You’re not allowed to say another word,” Cohen said curtly.
