Chapter 497 Love, Death, and Machines (crossed out) Dementors

Cohen was certain that when he looked up, he saw something glittering in Dumbledore's deep blue eyes.

"I should have been prepared."

Dumbledore quickly returned to normal.

"But whether I'm ready or not, I have to do it... How about tomorrow night?"

“Sure, but you’ll have to talk to Rose and Edward for me—this is hard to explain to you because I have a serious criminal record now,” Cohen said.

By skipping school to bomb the Ministry of Magic and going to nightclubs with his father, Cohen's credibility at home has now plummeted to the lowest level.

However, Dumbledore was indeed a very useful excuse to go out. When Dumbledore found Rose and explained that he wanted to go with Cohen to a ruin to look for something, Rose agreed even faster than she agreed to let Cohen go to the Ministry of Magic.

“Edward is in the Ministry of Magic, Edward will protect me,” Cohen pleaded.

“Don’t even think about it.” Rose said decisively at dinner. “You and your son are both grounded—thank you, Molly, I can manage on my own.”

“But Dumbledore can take me away!” Cohen said, bewildered. “Aren’t you afraid he’s some weird old man who traffics teenagers to Afghanistan—”

“I’m still sitting here,” Dumbledore said with a chuckle, completely unfazed by Cohen’s fabricated assessment. “Oh, thank you, Molly. Would you like a glass of mead? I just opened a bottle…”

“Of course, Dumbledore. Arthur says things are much easier in the ministry now than before, but we’re getting more done.” Mrs. Weasley served them stew one by one, a smile on her face. “Edward’s doing a much better job than the previous ministers, isn’t he?”

“If we put aside the issue of him dragging his colleagues home to play games, Edward has actually done a pretty good job.” Rose glanced at the clock. “If I’m not mistaken, he and Arthur should be back soon, and Edward will be hungry by now.”

As soon as Rose finished speaking, the sound of Edward and Mr. Weasley discussing something could be heard coming from the hallway outside the living room.

"Speaking of those metal wands that Muggles use, I still have one in my office..." Mr. Weasley said with great interest, "but I haven't figured out where to insert those little iron stones, or the banging spells the Muggles make..."

“I know the bullet should be in the magazine, and then you can fire it by pulling the loose trigger,” Edward said. “I need to test how effective other wizards’ deflection spells are against it. I’m meeting with the Muggle Prime Minister in early July, and if this thing can’t be deflected by ordinary spells, at least the Muggles will have more means of defense…”

"Does that mean Dad's deflection spell is a bit more sinister than the deflection spells of ordinary wizards?" Cohen asked Rose after overhearing part of the conversation.

“He cut corners on the deflection spell, using the Ironclad Charm's spell model instead,” Rose sighed. “But no one’s going to test him anyway.”

Silent spellcasting is too advanced. Cohen remembers that the deflection spell is a bit more convoluted than the armor spell, but the casting requirements of the armor spell are much higher than those of the deflection spell, which can only deflect some ordinary spells.

Edward and Mr. Weasley were somewhat surprised to see Dumbledore, who had hardly stayed to eat, when they entered. They then greeted Dumbledore.

“Even after all this time, I still often have a sudden daze, unable to believe that the minister was one of ours.” Mr. Weasley sat down next to Mrs. Weasley. “Suddenly, the whole world seems so much better.”

“It’s just the calm before the storm.” Edward sat down between Rose and Cohen. “I can’t comment on the competence of the other Ministry of Magic officials. It’s obvious they completely forgot how to cast those spells after the exams. They’re barely able to handle the occasional attacks by Death Eaters.”

"And then you take them off work to play video games?" Rose raised her eyebrows.

“This is called edutainment. If you directly ask them to learn spells again, they might be too embarrassed to do it, but it’s different when you put it in an entertainment program—Cohen knows, I’ve used it when I taught students at Hogwarts, and it worked great,” Edward said.

“That’s true,” Cohen said. “Even Harry started reading books during that time, just so he could show off in front of Hermione and Ron.”

Then, Cohen told Edward about his upcoming trip with Dumbledore. "Could you help him for a few more days?" Edward joked. "You can return him on his birthday—"

"Huh?!" Cohen looked at Edward in disbelief.

“As long as you stay with Dumbledore, your mother won’t require me to be home by eight o’clock,” Edward said, raising an eyebrow.

A cheerful atmosphere filled the table once again.

After the meal, Dumbledore left, while Cohen and the others stayed at the Phoenix headquarters because Rose was planning to participate in the Phoenix Order's mission.

Voldemort's side was unusually quiet; there was no trace of him, and even the Death Eaters hadn't gone out to attack Muggles.

So much so that the wizard, who had just become tense, suddenly felt as if his emotions had collided with a marshmallow.

Rose guessed that Voldemort was looking for a way to deal with Cohen, after all, Cohen had become a major threat that he could not get rid of.

Snape could no longer send back messages either, because of Cohen's betrayal, Voldemort was very wary of his subordinates, especially Snape, the double agent.

The room next to Cohen's bedroom was given to Edward and Rose; only this guest room had a double bed.

“I need to find what he’s looking for first,” Rose said, resting her head on Edward’s arm and staring at the ceiling. “We can’t let him have a way to deal with Cohen.”

“You’ve found it.” Edward patted her on the shoulder. “You’re the solution to Cohen—now only you can keep him in check…”

“You know what I’m talking about,” Rose said. “Did you get anything out of the head of that silver key?”

“No, nothing important.” Edward paused. “Nothing at all. That man is old and prone to delusions.”

"Are you hiding something from me again?" Rose asked, frowning. "There are some things you don't need to keep from me. We've been married for so many years."

“I’m having such a good time right now that it’s making me a little scared. I’m afraid that one day this kind of life will be gone forever,” Edward said worriedly. “I’m not as brave as Dumbledore makes me out to be. Otherwise, how would I have ended up in Hufflepuff?”

“Tell me,” Rose said, “what did the old man say?”

“I said something divisive,” Edward said. “I don’t care, but I’m afraid you do.”

“If you don’t care, I don’t care,” Rose said.
-
"Do you care?" the count asked.

“If neither of them cares, why should I?” Cohen said. “That old man with the silver key was definitely trying to sow discord in my family, but he forgot a very important point.”

"He has never raised a child, so he doesn't know how deep the feelings between parents and children are, nor does he know that feelings are not based on blood ties, but on the time spent together."

“And what about me?” the count said. “I’ve been your bird for five years!”

"A bag of owl food for a gallon, plus a wife, what more do you want?" Cohen yawned.

"Four more," the count requested. "I originally had twenty-seven!"
