Chapter 587 Dumbledore is dead, you forced me to, idol.
After saying goodbye to Edward in the Forbidden Forest, Cohen felt as if he had left something behind at Hogwarts.
But I just couldn't remember.
To avoid having to travel a long way back to look for things he might have left behind, Cohen decided to stay until he had attended Dumbledore's funeral.
Stealthily slipping back to the Hogwarts grounds, Cohen happened to see Harry chasing after him from the castle, and Hagrid rushing towards the castle after spotting the Dark Mark above it.
"Harry?" Hagrid shouted after seeing Harry. "I saw someone fall—do you know what happened up there?"
Harry seemed to have lost the ability to speak; he didn't answer Hagrid's question and just kept running into the Forbidden Forest.
Haile stopped him.
"Harry? Harry?" Hagrid saw Harry struggling listlessly, so he simply lifted Harry up. "Harry!"
“Let me go!” Harry roared hoarsely.
Hagrid immediately put Harry down on the ground, his face full of worry.
Harry realized he shouldn't have gotten angry at Hagrid—but how could he? He had just clearly seen Cohen put away Professor Dumbledore's wand, cast the Killing Curse on Dumbledore, and even run away with the Malfoys. How could he possibly suppress his confusion and anger?
He didn't understand why Cohen would do this. They had already obtained Voldemort's Horcruxes, the Death Eaters weren't a problem, and Professor Dumbledore was so kind to Cohen...
Cohen has everything Harry envies, so why would he do something like this?
Harry couldn't help but recall Cohen from his memories. Cohen had only acted before, but could he be acting this time too?
But who is Cohen putting on this act for? He has completely broken with Voldemort, so there's no way he would become a mole on Voldemort's side.
And even if the Death Curse was fake, Professor Dumbledore fell from such a height...
When Harry left the castle, he didn't even dare to look at Dumbledore's body outside—it must have been mangled beyond recognition. Harry only saw a dark shadow lying on the damp grass in the distance.
Suddenly, Harry remembered Cohen's earlier joking remarks about "building a Dementor Empire" and "killing Dumbledore."
More than these.
The memories Dumbledore showed them revealed that Riddle used magic to frighten and harm Muggle children from a young age, and Cohen also frequently used magic to scare the Muggle children on Privet Drive when he was young—they were very similar, except that Dumbledore believed Cohen…
The Earl had said more than once that Cohen was a naturally evil little Dementor, but everyone just thought the Earl was being sarcastic, after all, Cohen was its master, and the Earl had never uttered a kind word...
The more Harry recalled Cohen, the more horrified he became.
But deep down he really hoped that Cohen would reappear now and tell him that it was all a lie, that Professor Dumbledore was not dead, and that it was all just a silly joke.
“Harry? You scared me to death—what happened?” Hagrid grabbed Harry’s shoulder and said, “You can’t go into the Forbidden Forest alone this late at night. Have the Death Eaters entered the school? Where is Professor Dumbledore?”
“Professor Dumbledore… Cohen…” Harry said with difficulty.
“He can definitely handle it—did he go to London? I think we should write him a letter as soon as possible…” Hagrid comforted him.
“Professor Dumbledore was killed by Cohen,” Harry said, his face ashen. “What?!” Hagrid’s eyes widened. “No, impossible! Cohen wouldn’t even kill a small animal, and Professor Dumbledore always praised him as a kind boy—he couldn’t have—you must be…”
“I saw it. He killed Professor Dumbledore and flew off into the Forbidden Forest. The Minister was chasing him,” Harry said lifelessly. “Professor Dumbledore’s body is…”
“I don’t believe it,” Hagrid said gruffly.
The invisible Cohen followed behind them, and coincidentally, the "Hogwarts specialty - Soul Strength 99 Wind" also followed.
The doors of Hogwarts were wide open, and the house was brightly lit.
Many people were still in their pajamas. They had run out out of curiosity after hearing the commotion, violating the curfew. They saw the Aurors running around busily, and the Death Eaters being escorted away by the Aurors.
Filch couldn't stop them from coming out to watch the drama unfold—they followed the Aurors to the entrance, and some of them noticed a dark mass lying on the lawn, so they gathered around it.
Those who got closer screamed when they saw the face of the dark figure.
"Don't crowd around here!" Professor McGonagall shouted. "You should all go back to your dormitories—Minister, thank you for your help, the sudden appearance of Death Eaters on campus was indeed unexpected, and Dumbledore and we took every precaution we could think of… but why haven't you told me what happened on the roof—the students have all been lured off their beds…"
Professor McGonagall turned to Edward, who was leading a group of Aurors out, and asked him a question.
“Up in the tower…” Edward said with some difficulty, paused for a moment, and then waved to the Aurors who were holding down the Death Eaters behind him, signaling them to take the people to the prison first.
“Quelk! Finigan! Crevy! What are you doing out there!” Professor McGonagall frowned and shouted at a group of students standing next to a dark figure outside the castle.
“Professor—this is…” Seamus turned to Professor McGonagall with a horrified expression, pointing at the dark figure.
They made way for Professor McGonagall.
"What happened?" Hagrid led Harry to the circle of people. He was very tall and could easily see the shadowy figures over the students' heads.
Harry squeezed in too.
Dumbledore lay on the grass with his eyes closed, his limbs outstretched, and blood seeping from the corners of his mouth, under his body, and behind his head.
After seeing Dumbledore's body, Professor McGonagall clutched her heart tightly and remained speechless for a long time.
Harry knelt beside Dumbledore's body, trembling as he tried to wipe the blood from Dumbledore's face and straighten his glasses, as if Dumbledore would open his eyes again if everything appeared to be normal.
"Is this what you used to say, 'For the greater good, some trivial sacrifices are necessary'?" Cohen, who was invisible, stood not far away, turned his head and asked in a low voice to the air beside him.
“I don’t know, Cohen.”
Dumbledore sighed deeply.
"But this is by no means insignificant, though at least it is better than a permanent separation."
