Chapter 21 Mission: 04-4 Backstab (Please Read)
Agnus panicked, dodging the raging blades, helpless against the reality of the demons' dwindling numbers. The blades even tore through space as they struck the walls, redirecting themselves once again through the hall. Then, they converged, transforming into countless magical flying swords that blanketed the entire hall, forcing Agnus to flee.
By the time Agnas was finally able to raise his head to see the situation in the hall, his group of sword wings had been completely destroyed, with only two silver knights left. The two gold knights were also killed under Nero's close attention.
"Crazy, crazy, crazy, crazy, crazy!"
Looking at Nero, who had released his demonic form and was standing empty-handed in the middle of the hall, Agnas shouted with a violent wave of emotion: "Aren't you afraid that your sister will die too?!"
Agnus's furious expression was as delightful as ever. Nero drew his whip sword and said with a calm smile, "The only ones I can harm are demons."
But this was actually a lie. Nero's control wasn't that strong at all. When the phantom's attack was devastating everyone, Nero was actually protecting Jillie from Agnus's sight.
But her bluff worked, and Agnas clearly began to want to retreat and took a few steps towards the door of the hall.
But he knew he couldn't leave yet. If he left now, Nero could easily take Gillie away from the cult headquarters and hide, and the mission given to him by the Pope would be a complete failure.
And just when he stopped in hesitation, Nero leaped towards him, and the emerald green snake-belly sword stretched out in the air like the wind through the forest, drawing an arc towards Agnas.
Two silver knights, breathing heavily, blocked Agnus's path, shields raised to block Echidna. Nero landed and launched a side kick with his right leg, equipped with Gilgamesh. After a brief collision, he flipped a silver knight's shield and fell backwards.
The two silver knights seized the opportunity and simultaneously thrust their lances. Nero somersaulted sideways to create distance, then whipped at a treacherous angle. The tip of his serpent-like blade pierced through the two knights like a venomous snake, biting at Agnus.
Agnus fluttered its transparent membrane wings and flew into the air, throwing its nearly shattered sword towards Nero. Nero instantly withdrew Echidna and slashed it with a straight sword.
The situation was a bit troublesome. Nero had used up a lot of magic power in that wave of clearing, so he needed to rest for a while before transforming again. But Agnus was obviously not an opponent that could be easily defeated without using the demon form.
After all, he was a demon incarnated by a high-ranking member of the cult; he wouldn't become useless without his subordinates. Now that Nero was stopped by the Silver Knights, it would be troublesome if Agnus summoned a bunch of demons.
After several rounds of fighting, Nero vaguely discovered that he might be much stronger in demon form than Nero in the game, but much weaker in normal state.
The only thing he could do was to kill the Silver Knight as quickly as possible. Nero flashed forward again, swung Echidna to snare a Silver Knight's leg, pulled it to the ground, dragged it around, and then smashed it into his companion.
The Silver Knight's entangled legs were instantly torn apart, and the two demons rolled on the ground. Nero leaped high and slashed down with his leg, completely embedding the two demons together.
Not yet dead, the Silver Knights were still wriggling. Nero transformed Echidna into a straight sword once again, slicing off their heads with a single blow, then piercing their chests and nailing them to the ground.
Done. Now Agnus is the only demon left in the hall.
Nero turned his head and looked up into the air. Sure enough, this creature was preparing something sneaky again. It was now approaching the cage holding Jiliye, intending to take her away.
Fortunately, Nero hadn't rushed to release Jillie. The huge cage was not only a prison, but also a protection. It was obviously much more difficult to carry a large cage than a person.
Nero drew his sword and turned to chase Agnus. He was about to dismantle the cage and take Gillia out.
That's how things are. Whoever tries to open it will be in trouble. The serpentine sword struck Agnus from behind, but he nimbly dodged it. So Nero didn't whip it to cause further damage; the scales on the whip only produced a series of crisp sounds.
Jillie was not woken up, her sleep quality is really enviable.
"But, don't think that I'm afraid of you!"
Agnas's constant stuttering revealed his guilty conscience. Although he had deployed a black-gold magic array behind him, he clearly lacked confidence in himself.
A string of black-gold missiles blasted out from the magic circle. Despite the golden halo above his head, Agnus, in both appearance and the color of his power, looked more demonic than angelic. Compared to Credo, the old saying "appearance reflects the heart" truly rings true.
Nero leaped up and swung his sword in the air, knocking down the incoming magic bullets one by one, and rushed towards Agnus. But Agnus quickly canceled the magic array and quickly slipped behind the cage holding Jillie.
This undignified fighting style made Nero laugh. But there was no other way. To avoid hurting Jillie, Nero could only land on the cage, cut the chain hanging on it, and fell to the ground with Jillie.
This way, Agnus could no longer hide. Nero swung Echidna and leaped towards Agnus.
Agnas grabbed the Serpent's Belly Sword with his three-fingered claws, but was pulled by Nero, causing him to lose his balance instantly. His fingers were almost cut off, and black mist emerged.
But Agnas not only did not let go, but instead pulled the serpentine sword again and pulled Nero towards him.
This unusual behavior made Nero alert at once - but unfortunately, this did not happen.
Because Nero's weapon was controlled and she was in the air, losing her balance, a figure appeared behind her.
The severe pain from his shoulders made Nero turn his head to look. The woman with white hair and black skin, wearing revealing clothes, had entangled Nero at some point, and the two throwing knives in her hands stabbed Nero's shoulders one on the left and one on the right.
It was Gloria, or rather Tracy, who gave Nero the clothes and the twin guns, an undercover agent lurking within the cult...as it should be.
"Well done, beautifully." Agnas then let go of the serpentine sword and fell to the ground.
Gloria pushed Nero to the ground, raised her head and said with a smile: "It's a pleasure to work with you."
"Why--"
Nero, full of doubts, had just opened his mouth when he was hit in the abdomen by a blunt object. He had to swallow the rest of his words in severe pain.
Then, Gloria struck Nero with a knife, and Nero, who was hit hard on the back of the neck, saw black and lost consciousness.
