Chapter 70 Mission: 12-1 The Universal Cauldron
When Nero opened her eyes again, she found herself in a chaotic void.

Body - can still move.

Memory—not lost.

This made Nero feel somewhat puzzled. She clearly remembered that Mephistopheles had said at the end that he would give her a trial. So, could the content of the trial be simply to face this empty void?

"Nothing and something are relative concepts."

Mephistopheles' voice came from the depths of the void: "It is precisely because we know what 'existence' is that humans have gained the ability to define 'nothingness'.

"It can be said that the concept of 'existence' is the first fruit of wisdom that you humans have ever tasted."

"Playing tricks." Nero's tone was full of disgust: "What do you want to say?"

"What I want to talk about is the nature of this world."

Mephistopheles chuckled and continued, "In this era of the singularity, the number 0 is considered heresy and a creation of the devil. It represents 'nothing', emptiness.

"It is precisely because we know what 'existence' is that humans fear the concept of 'non-existence'. It represents the purest negation, devoid of any meaning."

"You mean this space?"

"No, the whole world."

Mephistopheles denied Nero's speculation and declared that "the essence of the world is nothingness."

It says: "The world was born from nothing and will eventually return to nothing; life was born from chaos and its ultimate fate is death. Throughout all time, existence is only finite, and nothingness is eternal."

Nero listened quietly to the end of his long speech, then calmly asked: "Is this your opening statement? Or is it your epitaph?"

She had already started thinking about how to break this space and give Mephistopheles a good beating.

To use a phrase Kriemhild said, which Nero was very fond of, it was "until death, and even then a hundred times more."

"Don't worry." Mephistopheles said calmly, "Didn't I tell you? This is a trial."

"Don't talk nonsense," Nero replied impatiently. "Let me out now, or I'll chop you into ten pieces once I've broken this place apart."

She had had enough of this guy who was always asking riddles and whose every move was offensive.

"I told you not to worry."

This damned demon suppressed the smile in his tone and said sincerely, "How about this? You want to leave, so you must have your own goals. I'll help you realize those wishes in exchange for you staying here. How about that?"

"A wish come true?"

"That's right," the demon said. "Don't look at me like this. I am, after all, a spirit born from nothingness. In other words, I am connected to the source. With such infinite magical power, I can achieve anything you desire."

Sounds like the Holy Grail from the Holy Grail War.

"Like in the legend of Faust?"

"It's like in the legend of Faust. Any wish is acceptable, even if you want to travel back to the age of the dinosaurs."

But even though the demon was so sincere, Nero just said, "I have no wishes to fulfill."

"lie."

The devil chuckled: "You are just worried that I will not keep my promise. But don't worry-"

"Then why don't you try to send me back to my original world?" Nero interrupted. "If you can do that, I won't be able to appear again, right?" "You mean—" A snap of fingers sounded in the void, and the next second, Nero's eyes blurred: "This?"

A circular hole appeared in front of Nero, and at the other end of the hole was the quiet town of Fortuna.

"As long as you go in, you can return to your original world." The devil said again, "But I can't force you to accept it."

Nero was silent for a moment. She thought for a moment, then sighed and said, "No, I still don't believe it. I prefer to believe the Sphinx's promise to you."

"You're lying again." Mephistopheles laughed softly. "Humans are naturally prone to lying, so that's fine. But since you don't want to go back, do you have other wishes you want to fulfill?"

"I want this Sin Stone in my chest to be fully formed."

"Simple."

In response to Nero's request, another snap of the fingers rang out. The bright red magic stone quickly shrank, completely retracting into Nero's body. Nero instantly felt that he could transform into the Great Sin Demon at any time.

"Hallucination?" She was incredulous.

"Yes or no, we'll know once we try."

Then, red and black demonic energy rose from Nero's feet, and the demonic transformation began in her feet. Her soft feet transformed into hawk-like claws, and black crusts grew on her white calves. Her knees bent backward, and dark green feathers spread out like a skirt. Her already slender waist became even more graceful, and her sternum bulged...

Nero raised her hand and looked at her body. She had actually transformed into a true demon—a demon with distinct bird-like features.

As soon as she thought about it, a pair of the same dark green wings suddenly spread out behind her.

It's a peacock. The original owner of the demonic energy, the arrogant demon king Pavoni, is named after the peacock, a bird that symbolizes pride. Therefore, Nero's demon form naturally resembles this bird.

"how?"

Mephistopheles asked cheerfully, seeming quite satisfied with his work.

However, Nero, who had transformed into a demon, just sneered disdainfully and immediately drew out the Yama Sword, intending to cut through this chaotic space.

"and many more!"

Mephistopheles' tone became anxious. "What else are you not satisfied with? I can continue to make it happen for you!"

"I have to make sure Ritsuka and the others can resolve the singularity safely."

Nero sneered and pointed the blade forward: "If you have the ability, then go ahead and make it happen?"

"of course can!"

Mephistopheles responded by snapping his fingers again, and Nero saw Kriemhild transformed into an evil dragon. The scene rapidly shifted, showing Ritsuka and the others defeating Pavoni.

"You see, they can accomplish all this without you." Mephistopheles said to Nero in a pleading tone: "What else do you want?"

"I want to gain power beyond my father's."

After Nero casually expressed his wish, she felt a thin bond connecting her to the "roots" of this world. Thus, Nero commanded limitless magical power.

Yet, despite this, Nero brought the blade down, creating a crack that shimmered with light.

"I'm so sorry, demon," she said, "There are some things I must do myself."
