Chapter 20 Admit it, hero, you're lucky.

Gwen and Mary Jane were chatting idly, and after about 20 minutes, the doorbell interrupted their conversation.

After holding down Gwen who was about to get up, Mary Jane came to the door, took a look through the peephole, and found Peter and Yang Le standing outside with shopping bags.

"Welcome back gentlemen." Mary Jane smiled and opened the door. "Peter, you went with Happy too?"

"No, I happened to see Harpy when I was thinking of coming over, so I brought it over for him."

After Peter and Mary Jane experienced a life-and-death crisis, perhaps because his Ren and Du meridians were opened up, he was able to have a normal conversation with Mary Jane. Yang Le, who was standing by, nodded with satisfaction, feeling that his child had grown up.

But Mary Jane looked calm, as if she didn't notice Peter's change. She turned to look at Yang Le and asked.

"What kind of sumptuous dinner has our chef prepared for the princess?"

"Princess?" Yang Le was stunned at first when he heard the title, but then he reacted.

"You mean Gwen? If you tease her like that, she might cause you trouble."

Mary Jane didn't care about Yang Le's reminder and stuck out her tongue.

"As long as she doesn't hear it, it's fine. You won't tell tales, right?"

"Too bad I heard that Mary."

Mary Jane stiffened when she heard Gwen's voice. She turned around and found Gwen, who had changed into her regular clothes, leaning against the side of the corridor with her arms folded, looking at her.

"Oh, I guess everyone is starving, let's start cooking quickly."

Mary Jane clapped her hands, immediately changing the subject, quickly snatching the shopping bag from Peter and running towards the kitchen.

However, the anxious Mary Jane did not pay attention to her feet and was tripped by the carpet placed at the door. Peter was quick to grab Mary Jane who was about to fall, but the materials in the bag flew towards Gwen.

Just when everyone thought Gwen couldn't dodge in time, however, everything slowed down in Gwen's eyes, just like the special effects in a movie, everything turned into slow motion.

Hawthorn seeds flew out of the box, the drink was about to fall to the ground, and the steak was spinning towards her.

Gwen took a step forward, grabbed the box of hawthorns with her left hand, and used the box to catch the hawthorns one by one. She pinched the rotating steak with her right fingers, and stretched out her left foot. The drink bottle fell horizontally on the instep of her foot.

All this was done in just two or three seconds. When Gwen came to her senses, she found that Yang Le and the others were staring at her in amazement.

"Wow Gwen, I didn't know you were so amazing." Mary Jane looked surprised
"Gwen is so cool!" Unlike Mary Jane, Peter looked at Gwen in admiration. "It's like a stunt movie."

"Gwen was the one bitten by the spider? Is this the Ghost Spider's universe?" Yang Le calmly walked over to Gwen, took the materials, and rescued Gwen, who was standing on one leg.

"It seems that you have recovered well." Yang Le looked Gwen up and down under the pretext of concern.

"Well, not bad." Gwen was also a little confused. She didn't know how she did it. Could it be the spider?
Gwen couldn't help but think divergently, leaving Yang Le aside, which was exactly what Yang Le wanted. He stood aside and continued to look for bite marks. The two of them stood in the middle of the corridor without saying a word.

However, these two people have their own ulterior motives, and in the eyes of others they are just a loving couple, Mary Jane complained with a frown on her face.

"Alright, you two, if you want to show some sweet moments between lovers, please choose a time when there's no one around."

"Sorry, I'm just a little worried about Gwen." Yang Le came back to his senses, and in order to make the play complete, he could only follow Mary Jane's words, and at the same time pulled Gwen who was still in a daze.

"Huh? Yes, yes, I'm hungry too." Gwen came back to her senses and didn't hear the previous conversation at all, so she could only change the subject.

While everyone was having fun, they walked into the kitchen and Yang Le laid out the ingredients one by one.

"Hobby, what are you doing?" Gwen came over to help. "I'm going to make beef stew. And the patients, please sit down and rest." Yang Le certainly wouldn't force himself to cook Chinese food for three native Americans. The dietary differences were so great, they probably wouldn't be able to adapt.

The Chinese dishes that have survived in the United States have all undergone local improvements and are basically high in oil and sugar. The sweetness is so high that even candied sweet potatoes would be slapped.

So Yang Le chose the most versatile option, beef stew. However, Gwen frowned when she heard Yang Le's choice.

"That will take a long time. The beef won't be tender in a short time."

"So I bought some hawthorns," Yang Le pointed to the hawthorns beside him. "Hawthorns not only remove the mutton smell from the beef, but also soften the beef fibers, making it tender faster."

"Oh, I didn't realize you're a great chef." Gwen nudged Yang Le with her elbow like a good friend.

"After all, when you live alone, you naturally understand more."

"Sorry, I didn't mean to..."

"Okay Gwen, let's talk about this before." Yang Le looked at Gwen, who was almost unable to hold back after mistaking him for an orphan, and quickly pinched his thigh to change the subject.

"I lied to people that I was an orphan and made them feel guilty."

'Another sad story about the harpy.'

"Damn me!" Yang Le and Gwen thought at the same time.

Not to mention the two people who were blaming themselves in the kitchen, Mary Jane, who was sitting at the dining table, was watching everything that happened in the kitchen with an expression as if she had been hurt.

"Peter, don't you think they're really speed dating?"

Peter blushed as he looked at Mary Jane who leaned close to him and whispered something, and nodded in agreement.

"Indeed, since meeting Harpy, Gwen has become much more cheerful than before."

"Aren't you jealous?" Mary Jane looked at Peter with a gossipy expression, but there was a strange glint in her eyes. "Aren't you and Gwen childhood sweethearts? Have you ever thought about pursuing her?"

"Me?" Peter shook his head in panic after hearing Mary Jane's words. "I don't have that kind of feeling towards Gwen. Gwen and I were more like... soulmates?"

"Yes! A soulmate!" Peter nodded confidently. "Gwen and I met because of music, and whenever I get into trouble, Gwen always comes to my aid. Uh, maybe it sounds more like a big brother and little brother."

"I've always felt inferior to Gwen." Peter lowered his head in shame, his hands clasped together nervously. "It's ridiculous, a boy always needing a girl's protection. Without Gwen, I wouldn't even dare leave the classroom at school."

"Oh no, there's no need to slander yourself like that Peter," Mary Jane said softly as she reached out and took Peter's hands in hers.

"What you did today is not what a coward can do. You are the bravest man I have ever met."

"Uh, thank you Mary Jane. I don't know what happened at that time. I just ran out involuntarily."

Peter's face turned red like a monkey's butt in response to Mary Jane's praise, and he seemed to be about to stutter again.

"I don't know what that's all about." Mary Jane brushed her hair with her hands, exuding confidence and charm. "All I know is, hero, you're lucky."

"Lucky? What does that mean?" Peter scratched his head, not understanding what Mary Jane meant.

"Then wait until you understand," Mary Jane said playfully with a wink.

(Answer: This sentence comes from the first meeting between Peter and Mary Jane in the comics. Interestingly, before they met again, Peter had always thought Mary Jane was an ugly girl.)
