Chapter 33 George's Entrustment
Chapter 33 George's Entrustment
After Yang Le said that, the ward was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop.
Mr. and Mrs. Parker tacitly began to clean the ward. Peter stopped dozing off and looked back and forth between Yang Le and Gwen with wide eyes.
"You're too direct!" Gwen muttered softly beside Yang Le, and at the same time, she punched Yang Le at a large angle where no one else could see. To be honest, it was a bit painful.
This was what they had discussed when they came back, not only to avoid involving the Parker family, but also to facilitate the investigation plan later.
Gwen punched Yang Le and immediately put on a smile and explained.
"Dad, actually, that's not what Happy meant..."
"I agreed."
"Uh? Dad, what did you say?"
"I said, I agree!" George looked at Yang Le with a stern face and gritted teeth.
"Well, I thought it would take some time." Gwen shrugged, lowering her head and muttering softly. "I have mixed feelings right now."
"Yes, I agree. Now, Gwen, you should go back and pack your luggage. Don't tell me you can move in directly without packing your luggage." The more George spoke, the uglier his expression became. In the end, he could be said to have become a different person.
"Of course not!" Gwen waved her hands hurriedly, and glanced at Yang Le who was laughing at the side, and stepped on him in frustration.
"Ah!" Yang Le screamed, looking at the puzzled looks of the others and hurriedly explained.
"I mean, oh, oh, you'll die from the retake, right! Of course! Of course not."
Yang Le praised his own wit in his heart and continued, "Please forgive me, as a Chinese, I have a slight accent when speaking English."
'The tables have turned now,' Yang Le thought helplessly, watching Gwen snickering beside him.
After playing, Gwen took a car with the Parker family to go back and pack their luggage, while Yang Le, who was about to leave with them, was kept by George.
"I just happen to have something to ask Harpy about ninjas. You guys go ahead, it won't take long."
Under Gwen's worried gaze, Yang Le stayed. Before leaving, Peter secretly gave Yang Le a gesture of encouragement.
After everyone left, the ward became silent again. In the awkward atmosphere, Yang Le wanted to find a topic to talk about, but unexpectedly, George spoke first.
"Listen, kid, although I agree, you must not do anything that crosses the line for me. You don't want to know the consequences." George first warned sternly, but then changed the subject and spoke in a hard tone.
"Once Gwen turns 17, I won't stop you."
"Um, Uncle George, Gwen and I aren't actually..."
Yang Le was about to explain when he was interrupted by George.
"I know what Gwen is thinking. I've seen that look in Helen's eyes before." George's eyes flashed, as if he was reminiscing about the past.
"I failed to protect Helen, and I almost lost Gwen. I'm a complete failure."
George sighed, raised his head, his face looked haggard, and his straight back bent, as if he had aged a lot in an instant. He instructed Yang Le in a voice with a hint of pleading.
"Promise me, Harpy, that you'll protect her."
Yang Le looked at the depressed father in front of him and answered solemnly.
"I will."
——Dividing line————
"So, what did you and my dad talk about?" Gwen looked at Yang Le suspiciously. They were now on their way to Yang Le's house. Just as George said, it didn't take long. Gwen had just finished packing when Yang Le came back.
"Nothing." Yang Le looked normal. Gwen's eyes narrowed slightly. The more normal Yang Le acted, the more suspicious she became. But she knew she couldn't get anything out of Yang Le, so she could only suppress her doubts and prepare to bypass the Maginot Line (referring to Yang Le) and attack Paris (referring to George).
During the conversation between Yang Le and Gwen, the two finally arrived at Yang Le's house.
"That room is yours now." Yang Le pulled out two keys from his pocket. "This is the room key, and there's a spare. I'll give you both."
"Thank you." Gwen smiled and took the key. "You don't suggest I decorate the room?"
"Ah, I'll die in the retake." Yang Le deliberately imitated the strange accent that Gwen had made after stepping on her foot in the ward.
Gwen rolled her eyes at Yang Le, then turned around and walked towards the guest room with her suitcase.
Yang Le saw Gwen turn around and made a childish face. As soon as he finished making the face, he found that Gwen was looking at him as if he were an idiot.
"Uh, you finished cleaning up so quickly?"
"Those things can be cleaned up at any time. The most important thing now is the matter of those ninjas."
"Ahem! Follow me." Yang Le coughed and motioned Gwen to follow.
"Boy." Gwen shrugged and followed Yang Le with a helpless expression.
Yang Le brought Gwen to the study. The study was simply decorated. Apart from the bookshelf against the wall, there was only a set of tables and chairs and a computer.
"Wait a minute, you're not going to do something like that old movie, are you?" Gwen asked when she saw Yang Le walking towards the bookshelf.
"It's the kind where you pull out a book, but it's actually a combination lock, and then you enter the combination and boom, a secret room appears."
"And there's a lot of high-tech equipment inside?" Yang Le said as he pulled out a book. "Congratulations, you guessed it correctly, Miss 007."
"But we're going to be a little bit flashier than those."
As soon as Yang Le finished speaking, the book in his hand began to deform. Yang Le let go of the book, and finally, to Gwen's astonishment, the book turned into a door emitting white light.
"Magic?" Gwen asked.
"Science!" Yang Le replied.
Yang Le walked into the gate first, and Gwen hurriedly followed. As soon as she passed through the gate, Gwen was stunned.
"Well, it's a little more plain than I thought."
There was a hint of disappointment in Gwen's tone, and just as she said that, on the other side of the door was a huge empty space, about the size of a basketball court, but with nothing in it.
"This place is indeed lacking some decoration." Yang Le smiled and snapped his fingers.
After snapping her fingers, Gwen felt the ground beneath her feet begin to shake and the floor began to shift. A machine slowly rose from under the opened floor. After the machine was fully raised, the floor closed and the machine began to deform and unfold. The upper part turned into a huge screen hanging in the air, and the lower part turned into an operating console filled with densely packed buttons.
"That's starting to look better." Gwen nodded in satisfaction, looking at Yang Le expectantly, waiting for another try.
However, facing Gwen's expectant gaze, Yang Le just scratched his head awkwardly.
"Sorry, no more."
"what?"
"After all, we're just starting out, and it's already pretty impressive that I've managed to pull off such a big event in such a short time." Yang Le spread his hands and looked at Gwen expectantly. "Shouldn't you praise me?"
"Huh? Oh, I'm going to die in the retake?" Please forgive me, this is all Gwen can think of for the moment.
