The ramjet combustion chamber is a key component of the engine, crucial to the overall performance of the engine system. Flame stability has always been a critical issue in combustor design and testing. Therefore, a research team at Harbin Institute of Technology, led by Wang Duoyu, used simulation and testing as the primary tools to investigate Wang's proposed ramjet combustion chamber design, which employed three flame stabilization methods: a sudden expansion, a concave cavity, and a V-groove.

The main analysis is on their cold flow and combustion flow field structures, the total pressure variation trend along the flow direction and the combustion efficiency.

All these research and calculations cannot be completed in a short period of time, and require multi-faceted accounting and review.

For example, one of the research results of this paper is: for the cavity flame stabilizer, the changes in the cavity length and the rear wall inclination angle have opposite effects on the combustion efficiency and total pressure loss. Increasing the cavity length is beneficial to improving the overall performance, but there is an optimal cavity length.

That is, the configuration with the rear wall inclination angle = 45° has higher comprehensive performance.

The technical team needed to use two main methods to conduct research: experiments and numerical simulations. They immediately completed the study of the impact of the flame stabilizer's configuration and size on ignition performance on a direct-connected high-altitude test system.

The results show that when the combustion chamber is ignited at low pressure, a larger ignition energy is required. The higher the combustion chamber pressure and the larger the simulated inflow flow rate, the more beneficial it is to ignition and stable combustion.

In other words, the ignition characteristics are closely related to the average and local gas flow rates in the combustion chamber, and the configuration and size of the flame stabilizer have a crucial influence on the ignition characteristics.

It seems that the low-voltage ignition problem has been basically solved, but in fact it has not.

Because this is not the optimal solution at all.

This is just a low-pressure ignition in the laboratory, and any unexpected situation may occur during the high-altitude flight of the aircraft.

At the same time, it is also necessary to monitor the air pressure, temperature and airflow conditions inside the ramjet engine when the aircraft flies at hypersonic speed, and whether they match the low-pressure ignition characteristics.

So just for this paper, it is only the first phase of research.

This paper also requires testing of the combustion chamber performance, but so far the technical team has not provided any results, so this paper cannot be completed.

"Professor Wang, we don't have any solutions right now because the high-temperature alloy pre-combustion chamber and flame tube materials we originally planned for are not in place, and we also haven't obtained the relevant materials for the annular gap film cooling as a thermal protection method for the combustion chamber that you mentioned earlier."
