Chapter 263, Zhu Ling: Am I making a big deal out of nothing?
October 1, 1984, National Day, No. 87, Zhongguancun West Street.
Wang Duoyu got up early in the morning and changed into his military uniform, which immediately made the little guy Wang Junhong praise him many times.
It can be seen that he was very happy because he thought his father looked very handsome in this military uniform.
Of course, it was also because Wang Duoyu had never done this in front of the little guy, so the little brat was so surprised.
Liu Xiaoli, Wang Meihe, Wang Meili and others were also very surprised because they had never seen him wearing a military uniform.
"Brother, aren't military uniforms only for soldiers? When did you join the army? I've never seen you wear one."
"Meili is right. I haven't heard you mention this, but you look really good in a military uniform. Duoyu, wait a moment. I'll get the camera to take a picture of you."
"Dad, I want to wear a military uniform, I want to be a soldier"
In the yard, Liu Xiaoli and the others were laughing, while Wang Duoyu asked Yuan Zuliang and the others to help correct his military posture, such as marching.
Today is National Day, a day of celebration for the whole country. Everyone is on holiday, so Wang Duoyu certainly doesn't want to go to work.
Although he was learning to march just to join in the fun, his identity was indeed a soldier, but it was kept secret.
The little kid wanted to change into a military uniform, so Wang Duoyu asked Liu Xiaoli to go out and help buy it.
"Buy a set for Rongrong and Xiaoning, and the same for Xiaoan."
"Where can you find such a small military uniform out there?"
When Wang Meili heard this, she immediately said:
"Brother, Sister Xiaoli, why don't we go buy some fabric of this color and take it home to make it ourselves? It won't take much time anyway."
There are sewing machines in this yard, and more than one.
Although Wang Duoyu and his family do not live in this house very often, they have already purchased everything they need, simply because they stay here every time they come to Beijing.
Over the past few years, Wang Duoyu and his friends have often come to Beijing.
Originally, this house was bought to store readers' letters, but now it has become their permanent residence in the capital.
Instead, the original letters from readers have been stored in another courtyard.
As for the other courtyard house, it was purchased by Liu Xiaoli and her team. They also helped to deal with the readers' letters and the wine that needed to be stored.
"That's a good idea. Let's go, let's go while we still have time."
Liu Xiaoli and the others made the decision immediately and left happily.
However, when they came back, Wang Duoyu had already changed into a Zhongshan suit.
Even when attending important events such as the National Day military parade, Wang Duoyu is now unable to wear a military uniform and can only change into a Zhongshan suit.
Normally, he wears casual clothes, which are the clothes improved and produced by the Youma Garment Factory.
Wang Duoyu was busy, and seeing that the time was almost up, he took Liu Xiaoli and the others out.
At this time, the four little guys, Wang Junhong, Li Rongrong, Lu Yuening and Wang Junan, all changed into military uniforms and military caps.
I have to say that Liu Xiaoli and her colleagues’ clothing-making skills are really good.
Liu Xiaoli didn't know much about these things before, but she learned them later. Since she took care of Wang Junhong herself, she has been responsible for most of the little guy's clothes.
A small number of them were clothes sent by others, such as leaders, school leaders and professors like Liu Deben, and relatives of Lao Wang.
In addition, the two sisters Wang Meili and Wang Meihe also help make some clothes.
After taking a car to the Wenjin Street compound, Wang Duoyu separated from Liu Xiaoli and the others.
They went to the family quarters and were not with Wang Duoyu.
"Duoyu, you're here. You look very energetic and young."
Fang Lihe, Li Rui and others greeted Wang Duoyu with a smile, and Qian Xuesen and others also came.
After chatting with Qian Xuesen and others for a while, not long after, everyone was arranged to get on the car and head to the Tiananmen Gate Tower.
After entering the city wall, Wang Duoyu and his friends went up the stairs. Some old professors with mobility problems could only wait in line for the elevator.
It is particularly lively here today. The city wall is full of people. Yuan Zuliang and his friends have no way to get here. They are all waiting in the courtyard.
Standing in the corner of the city wall, Wang Duoyu looked at Tiananmen Square and could not calm down for a long time.
The National Day military parade in 1984 was unanimously regarded by later generations as a legendary military parade.
In his previous life, Wang Duoyu could only watch it through TV programs and other materials, but he didn’t expect that in this life he would be able to watch it directly from the city wall.
As time goes by, the military parade is about to begin.
The process was exactly the same as what Wang Duoyu had seen on TV in his previous life.
Sing the national anthem and fire salutes.
At around 10:30, as the first column to come out of the military parade, the three-service guard of honor, escorted the August 1st Army flag and was the first to enter Tiananmen Square.
Next up was the military academy team.
This team is not composed of students from the National University of Defense Technology, Harbin Institute of Technology and other seven national defense universities, but students from the Military Academy, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy and other schools.
However, Wang Duoyu was not quite clear about this. He thought that there would be students participating from Harbin Institute of Technology. After all, he remembered that Harbin Institute of Technology also had a national flag guard.
"Haha, Duoyu, you think too much, students from Harbin Institute of Technology don't participate in these things."
Li Rui explained with a smile, Fang Lihe echoed him, Qian Xuesen and the others smiled and continued watching the parade.
After the military academy team passed, Wang Duoyu was shocked because the next one to pass was the infantry team.
On the other side, the foreign reporters holding cameras were all dumbfounded.
The three-service honor guard and military academy team in front are fine, after all, they are teams that practice marching every day and are very hardworking, so their military posture is neat and uniform, which is normal.
But the infantry formation in front of him not only had more people, but also had sharp eyes and full of energy, almost like robots, and everyone formed a whole.
No matter which direction you look at it from, it's just a line.
Especially before passing the city wall, they changed from marching in step with guns on their shoulders to marching with guns held high.
“Oh my god, this is incredible.”
Many foreign reporters were dumbfounded. They held their breath at the moment the infantry column fired their guns, and then they couldn't help but exclaimed in surprise.
These foreign journalists described the parade in their subsequent reports:
"The Chinese infantry marched as if at double speed, their rifles leaving afterimages. Their discipline was even more deviant than that of robots. The angle of error was less than 0.5 degrees, and the sound waves even shook the teacups on the viewing platform!"
Even Wang Duoyu and others standing on the viewing platform were equally shocked, because everything before their eyes was truly unbelievable.
There were a total of five infantry columns, and each of them marched across the Tiananmen Gate Tower in a heroic and high-spirited manner, with the sound so loud that it shocked the world.
Elsewhere, Liu Xiaoli and her friends were also deeply shocked and could not calm down for a long time.
Little guy Wang Junhong stared at the columns with extremely serious and excited eyes, but Li Rongrong, Lu Yuening and Wang Junan were too scared to cry because of the shouts of the infantry columns.
Because when the three-service honor guard came over, the three of them had already cried. Later, when the military academy team came, they didn't dare to cry out loud, but they were also scared to tears.
Until the infantry column came over, Li Rongrong and the other two did not dare to cry or look, and each hid in their mother's arms.
So at this moment, Wang Junhong seemed a little eccentric and independent, with a serious look on his face, just like those soldiers in the formation who were marching in step.
This scene was captured by several cameras, including a reporter from AFP.
The subsequent military parades became more and more exciting.
What Wang Duoyu was most concerned about were the subsequent mechanized formations such as tanks, armored self-propelled artillery, surface-to-air missiles, shore-to-ship missiles, and strategic missiles.
"Professor Qian, this kind of strategic missile... Oh, we can't talk about it here. Forget it, just pretend I didn't ask." Wang Duoyu just pointed at the missiles that had been passed by and was about to ask Qian Xuesen next to him.
As soon as he said it, he remembered that it didn't seem appropriate at the moment.
Although this is the Tiananmen Gate Tower, walls have ears, so it is not appropriate to talk about these topics.
Qian Xuesen smiled and nodded without saying anything.
Looking at the Dongfeng Express being carried by the large tractor, Wang Duoyu couldn't help but pat Li Rui on the shoulder:
"Old Secretary, does this look like the post office express delivery service at the entrance to our school? But this Dongfeng Express is a mission-driven express delivery service with free shipping worldwide. No signatures are accepted."
Li Rui: “.”
Fang Lihe felt that Wang Duoyu's words summed it up very well. Qian Xuesen and others even laughed, and several old professors almost couldn't straighten their backs.
They are proud!
Because of this Dongfeng Express, they also contributed a part of the strength.
It’s a pity that researchers like Yu Min did not come, because they are still hiding their identities and cannot participate in such activities.
Unlike Qian Xuesen, Wang Duoyu and others, who enjoy high fame both at home and abroad, there is no way to hide, so they have to appear in the public eye openly.
After the military parade, Wang Duoyu and his companions came down from the city wall, still feeling excited.
When Wang Duoyu returned to the Wenjin Street compound, he did not see Liu Xiaoli and the others because they had been sent back to No. 87 Zhongguancun Compound.
He couldn't go back because Fang Li and they insisted that he stay, so he had a simple meal in the canteen of the compound.
In the afternoon, he returned to Zhongguancun and took Liu Xiaoli and others to Prince Gong's Mansion, just for a stroll.
The little kid Wang Junhong was still very excited and kept chattering about watching the military parade in the morning.
Today is National Day, and there are quite a lot of tourists visiting Prince Gong's Mansion.
The next day, Wang Duoyu and his friends went to the Great Wall again.
Climbing the Great Wall is really tiring, and it’s not because of the saying: He who has not climbed the Great Wall is not a true man.
That's why they came to climb the Great Wall. It was for exercise, and Wang Duoyu also wanted Wang Meili and the others to come and see the beautiful rivers and mountains of the motherland.
After all, the two sisters will be heading to Tokyo after New Year's Day. Don't let them forget their roots when they come back after going to Tokyo.
This is not uncommon.
If it were in the previous life, many people would have traveled abroad before 2008, and they would definitely think that the domestic situation is not as good as that abroad.
But after that, after 2008, our country's infrastructure completely went into a rampant mode.
Nowadays, many domestic infrastructures are indeed not as good as those abroad. This is a fact and we have to admit it.
Therefore, Wang Duoyu took the two sisters Wang Meili and Wang Meihe around everywhere. Although he did it more for himself, it was also for his two younger sisters.
Li Yuanchao and Lu Qingsong also followed along. They didn't quite understand Wang Duoyu's intention, but they just followed him.
Especially Lu Qingsong, after all, he is a lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Harbin Institute of Technology and has a smarter mind.
There are some things I still don’t quite understand, but as I experience more, I will naturally understand them.
In the next few days, Wang Duoyu did not rush back to Harbin Institute of Technology, but stayed in Beijing and wandered around institutions such as the Beijing Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
He also took time to visit the Fifth Academy and talked with Qian Xuesen and others several times.
Lu Qingsong and Li Yuanchao returned to Bingcheng on the 3rd. There was nothing for them to do here, so they might as well go back to work.
The two sisters Wang Meihe and Wang Meili stayed here, well, they still had to study.
For them, every day is a test.
That evening, Wang Duoyu returned home and saw Zhu Ling there too.
Unlike usual, when Zhu Ling saw Wang Duoyu, she angrily walked up to him and slammed the newspaper in front of him:
"Wang Duoyu, look at what you've done. My son is even in the newspaper."
For Zhu Ling, Wang Junhong is her Achilles' heel. She will be furious if anything goes against him.
But before that, Wang Duoyu treated the little guy Wang Junhong with strict requirements in his studies and let him do whatever he wanted in his life. The little guy also grew up in a happy environment.
Therefore, Zhu Ling could not find any fault at all.
But this time, Wang Junhong's serious little look appeared in the newspaper. For a child, it is not a good thing to be paid attention to by the outside world too early.
Wang Duoyu picked it up and took a look. This newspaper was from a local official media. They probably didn't know Wang Junhong's identity, so they reported it like this.
It is indeed not very rigorous. After all, how could a child who appears in the family area be an ordinary person?
"You know what, the little guy is quite handsome. The reporter took a good picture of him, and his technique is pretty good!" Wang Duoyu commented with a smile, but it completely irritated Zhu Ling.
"Wang Duoyu, did you hear me?"
Seeing Zhu Ling so angry, Wang Duoyu shook his head and said:
"This is just a small matter. Why are you making such a fuss about it? What do you want to do?"
"I'm making a big deal out of nothing?"
Zhu Ling was instantly amused and pointed at the newspaper:
"Didn't you see what the newspaper said? The future of our country? Humph, that's just flattery, you know? I just want our son to grow up healthy and happy. What if he can't handle it in the future? Am I going to be blamed by these people again?"
Wang Duoyu: “.”
To be honest, this is not a big deal, why make such a fuss about it?
You start with a picture and then make up the whole article, right?
"I don't want to argue with you about this. My son lives with me. I will discipline him in the future, but now he is healthy and happy, and there is no such chaos as you mentioned."
After a pause, Wang Duoyu continued:
"Don't believe everything you hear. You're blowing a small thing out of proportion. And the newspaper isn't wrong. Isn't the little guy the future of our country? They're absolutely right."
"Okay, that's it. Do you have anything else to say? If not, please feel free to do as you please."
At this time, Wang Junhong had already come over. The little guy hugged his father's thigh and whispered:
"Dad, please don't scold my mom. I will definitely listen to you in the future."
When Zhu Ling heard this, she said angrily, "Didn't you just say you would listen to me?"
The little guy hurried over to hug her and coaxed her, "Little mother, I will definitely listen to you."
Wang Duoyu and Zhu Ling: "."
Both of them were speechless by the little guy's behavior, because the little brat is really good at coaxing people.
No one can be offended!
"Tell Dad, do you like this photo?" Wang Duoyu picked up the newspaper and let the little guy decide for himself.
"If you like it, I'll make a phone call and have someone contact this newspaper to get the negative of this photo. When you grow up, you can look at it anytime..."
Preserving photos is not that simple.
Once you have the negatives, you can develop them at any time.
Of course, it is best to convert the photos digitally and save them in memory.
The little guy suddenly didn't know what to do.
Because his mother was staring at him, and remembering what she had just said, he was about to say against his will that he didn't like it, when he heard his father say:
"Don't worry about your little mother. She will definitely support your decision. Do whatever you want. As long as you don't do anything bad, we will support you. So think carefully about it. Do you want this handsome photo?"
"miss you!"
Wang Junhong blurted out excitedly, but the next moment, Zhu Ling grabbed the little guy.
He could only change his words and say he didn't want to.
However, Wang Duoyu smiled and said:
"Okay, since you like this photo, no problem. I'll call and get it back for you."
Zhu Ling was immediately displeased: "Wang Duoyu, you're teaching the kids bad lessons. Don't try to avoid the important issues. The point isn't this photo, but the newspaper's random report."
"Xiao Li, come here and help me take the child back to the house!" Wang Duoyu's smile faded.
Liu Xiaoli and the others who had been watching from a distance didn't take it too seriously at first. After all, Zhu Ling always came to make her presence felt, and everyone was used to it.
But Wang Duoyu's expression now made Liu Xiaoli and the others realize that he was probably really angry.
"More fish, you."
Liu Xiaoli came over with a worried look on her face, hesitant to speak, but Wang Duoyu waved his hand and asked her to help take the little guy away.
Then he said to Zhu Ling coldly:
"Come with me to the front yard, and let's have a good chat!"
After that, Wang Duoyu turned around and went to the front yard first. Zhu Ling gritted her teeth and stomped her feet to follow him. "Let's talk, do you think I'm afraid of you?"
She appeared to be strong but was actually weak, and was actually very scared inside.
In her impression, Wang Duoyu has a relatively gentle and elegant personality, and he doesn't care much about many small things in life.
But this time, she seemed to have irritated Wang Duoyu, so he must be really angry.
Last time, Wang Duoyu had the same expression, but it was not as serious that time, because this time it was about Wang Junhong's education, and she, as a mother, and Wang Duoyu, as a father, had differences in this regard.
She also forced Wang Junhong to make a choice that leaned towards her, which was against the little guy's own wishes.
In the front yard of No. 87 Courtyard, Wang Duoyu glanced at Zhu Ling, then asked the security department to help close the gate.
"Comrade Zhu Ling, I'm seriously discussing with you the education of Wang Junhong. Although he's your son, you can't stop him from making decisions that go against his will."
"He's only three years old, what does he know?"
Wang Duoyu heard this and said coldly:
"Huh, he doesn't understand, but don't I understand? Even though he's only three years old, he can already recite over twenty ancient poems and has almost finished elementary school math."
"As adults, we should provide children with a good education, help them understand the world more clearly, and guide them to have a correct world view, outlook on life, and values, rather than making decisions for them yourself."
"Haven't you seen how much he loves wearing a military uniform? He's been wearing one these days. You're not blind, so don't tell me you can't see. Since he loves the uniform so much, do you think he wouldn't like the photo in the newspaper?"
Zhu Ling retorted: "I mean he is still young and shouldn't be in the newspapers."
"I don't think there's anything wrong with it. What's wrong with his young age? Since he's my son, Wang Duoyu, it's up to him to decide whether he's a dragon or a phoenix. Don't you think that if he doesn't appear in the newspaper now, there won't be such things in the future?"
The descendants of many celebrities have basically disappeared and are no longer familiar to the public.
The gene for intelligence cannot be inherited.
Therefore, Wang Duoyu is not sure that this little guy Wang Junhong will become a mathematician in the future. Maybe it would be a good choice for him to join the army.
In Wang Duoyu's opinion, as long as the children are happy and healthy, that's all that matters.
He doesn't have very high expectations for his two children, Wang Junhong and Wang Junan, he just wants them to be happy and healthy.
Of course, they are still very young now, and Wang Duoyu’s strict requirements on his children’s studies do not conflict with his requirements.
We strictly require our children to study hard so that they will have more choices when they grow up.
It’s not that the children can’t become mathematics professors. Wang Duoyu will force them to become mathematics professors.
Wang Junhong now sounds like he is very smart and has a promising future.
But being smart as a child doesn’t mean he will always be that smart. Is this world short of geniuses?
Therefore, Wang Duoyu does not have high expectations for this, so as not to put more pressure on the child, causing the child to move forward with a heavy burden, or even becoming the straw that breaks the camel's back.
After all, after the little guy was born, he was destined to have no shortage of pressure in his life.
Who made his father the world-famous emperor of mathematics?
So what Wang Duoyu, as a father, can do is to accompany and guide his child instead of continuing to put pressure on him.
Wang Duoyu does not agree with Zhu Ling's educational method of being afraid of wolves in front and tigers behind.
And she couldn't accompany the little one to grow up, so educating the child was definitely the responsibility of Wang Duoyu as a father, not her.
"You don't need to worry about your child's education!"
Wang Duoyu continued:
"Come and see him when you have time, but don't interfere with my child's education."
Suddenly, Zhu Ling said:
"No, I want my child. I don't want him to follow you anymore!"
"Do you think it's possible? Not to mention that I won't agree, the little guy himself won't go with you." Wang Duoyu's expression suddenly became more relaxed:
"Besides, how are you going to support him? Do you have the time to accompany him as he grows up? Stop being ridiculous. I don't want to hear any more of this. Take care of yourself."
Having said that, Wang Duoyu shook his head and returned to the yard.
Zhu Ling was speechless and very angry, but she didn't know how to refute, so she could only watch Wang Duoyu leave.
She didn't know why this happened. She could have lived a happy life with Wang Duoyu, but now, she even hated herself.
Wang Duoyu returned to the living room of the backyard house and talked to the little guy about the photo.
He praised the little guy a few words, saying that he looked really handsome in his military uniform.
As for the negatives of these photos, Wang Duoyu will ask someone to help get them over tomorrow.
The next day, Wang Duoyu came to the Wenjin Street compound and found Li Rui.
"Old Secretary, please do me a favor. I need the photo from this newspaper. Could you please contact the newspaper for me? I need this photo and the negative."
Upon hearing this, the latter glanced at the newspaper, then flipped through the newspaper in his hand and said:
"Look, this newspaper has it too. By the way, whose child is that in the photo?"
Wang Duoyu: “.”
Although, Wang Duoyu was still very depressed.
Li Rui suddenly slapped his forehead and exclaimed, "Could the child in this photo be your son? I remember you seemed to be married, but it seems you got divorced."
"That's not right. Your son is already this big?"
He reported to Beijing in early April of 1981. At that time, Wang Junhong was only about five months old, so young that of course he didn't know him.
In the following years, Li Rui didn't meet Wang Duoyu very often, let alone the little guy Wang Junhong.
Come to think of it, this was the first time he saw this little guy.
"Yes, the old secretary. He was born in December 1980 and will be four years old in two months."
Hearing Wang Duoyu's words, Li Rui responded somewhat awkwardly.
He immediately said that he would definitely contact the newspaper and get the photos and the negatives back as soon as possible.
"By the way, regarding the photo in the newspaper, should we notify the newspaper and ask them to stop reporting it?"
Wang Duoyu heard this and shook his head:
"It doesn't matter. It's already been reported. There's no point in cancelling it now. Besides, he's still very young and will basically never leave the adults' sight. So don't worry about those newspapers."
"But, forget it, I'll talk to Leader Fang later."
This time, the newspaper was indeed too reckless and published the report directly without informing anyone.
But I definitely can't do that next time.
After a while, Wang Duoyu met Fang Lihe and discussed with him the matter about his son's photo.
"Boss, I hope you can help me report this to the head of the news media department. If you have photos like this in the future, please let me know before you post them."
Fang Lihe nodded solemnly, indicating that he would deal with this matter seriously.
"No need to take it seriously. I don't blame them. After all, they don't know either," Wang Duoyu shook his head.
In fact, he was not making a fuss or exaggerating.
Even the old secretary Li Rui didn’t know Wang Junhong, let alone others.
I guess only people like Liu Deben and Wu Congyin who often see Wang Junhong could recognize him.
In addition, if Wang Duoyu and Wang Junhong, father and son, stood together, others might associate them with him, but not others.
Anyway, the little guy is now "raised in seclusion and unknown to the world", and children will grow up, so no one will take such a report seriously.
However, this incident also reminded Wang Duoyu that he really needed to pay a little more attention, so as to avoid similar incidents in the future, which would be difficult to deal with.
After talking about this, Wang Duoyu turned around and went back to work.
But on the other hand, the editors-in-chief of several newspapers who received notices from their superiors were all panicked.
None of them expected that there was a great god standing behind the photo taken casually by the reporter.
After being scolded by his boss, the photographer who took the photo was in big trouble.
Wang Duoyu didn't know all this, and what he didn't know even more was that AFP had published his son's photo in their publication.
Eastern Young Dragon!
Based on the French translation, AFP gave Wang Junhong this nickname.
Obviously, this nickname is very descriptive.
Many foreigners were very surprised after seeing such reports.
Of course, only people like Shing-Tung Yau and John Milnor have not seen the report, otherwise they would definitely recognize it.
For most mathematicians, they don’t pay much attention to current affairs news, especially serious news like this, they will pay even less attention to it.
The photo only briefly caused a moment of surprise, but everyone's attention was focused on the National Day parade, not a little kid in a military uniform.
A young kid who probably can't even control his poop and pee, what's there to worry about?
The turmoil surrounding the National Day military parade has been widely discussed both at home and abroad, but Wang Duoyu's surroundings are calm.
Time passed unknowingly and it was October 10th. Wang Duoyu, who had been working for a week, finally finished all his work.
"Let's take a day off today. Come on, I'll take you out for a walk. Where do you want to go?"
He said he was taking people out for a walk, but in fact he just needed to relax.
Only by relaxing in moderation can you better coordinate your life and work and avoid making your body so tired.
"Dad, I want to go to the zoo to see lions and giraffes"
The little guy suddenly shouted loudly.
The Beijing Zoo is much larger than the zoo in Ice City, and there are also many animals in it.
Lions and giraffes are all African animals and are not found in China.
"Okay, let's go to the zoo." Wang Duoyu smiled and set the itinerary for today.
Li Rongrong, Lu Yuening, Wang Junhong and other children immediately jumped up with joy.
The children are happy, and of course the adults are happy too.
When they arrived at the zoo, Wang Duoyu and his friends also saw those strange animals.
Looking at these animals from Africa, Wang Duoyu suddenly thought of the koalas, kangaroos and other animals in Oceania, and thought that if zoos here in China introduced them, then the little ones would be able to see them in the future.
In fact, it would be great if you could travel abroad and see other scenery, animals, food, etc. in the world.
Unfortunately, given Wang Duoyu’s current status, it is very likely that he will not be able to go abroad again.
After visiting the zoo and having lunch, it was already two o'clock in the afternoon. Wang Duoyu and his friends packed up and headed to the airport to return to Ice City.
After returning to Harbin Institute of Technology, Wang Duoyu went to find Yu Zhengze.
"Old Yu, are you busy?"
"Professor Wang? Wow, you're such a busy man, you're not busy at all. Even if I'm busy as hell, I have to make time for you. Besides, you're the God of Wealth."
When Yu Zhengze saw Wang Duoyu, he was immediately surprised.
As the director of the Information and Communication Engineering Department of Harbin Institute of Technology, Yu Zhengze is a well-known figure in the school, but Wang Duoyu has rarely visited him.
In fact, he could only see Wang Duoyu at the conference on rare occasions.
"To be honest, Professor Wang, I'm deeply honored that you came to see me. It's a great honor for my humble home..."
"Old Yu, you're too vulgar. We all eat from the same iron pot and are all family. Why are you talking about different things?"
Wang Duoyu patted the other person's shoulder and continued:
"I won't say any more polite words. I came to you today to discuss my research on optical lenses, instruments, and equipment..."
His purpose was simple, which was to build an astronomical telescope observatory.
After Wang Duoyu finished speaking, Yu Zhengze was stunned:
"Professor Wang, if we want to build an astronomical observatory, it will definitely cost a lot of money. Moreover, you will be observing astronomical phenomena such as supernova explosions, so the requirements for optical instruments and equipment must be very high..."
"With our school's current level of technology, I'm afraid we can't do that..."
"Old Yu, don't say such discouraging words!" Wang Duoyu said:
"Help me collect the information. I need it in a week. Is that okay?"
"Collecting information is definitely no problem. I'm just worried about delaying your work..."
"Okay, that's no problem, please!"
After Wang Duoyu explained everything clearly, he left.
After watching him leave, Yu Zhengze became serious.
For this kind of thing, Wang Duoyu only needs to tell Su Zhenghuai and ask the latter to make a trip or make a phone call.
But Wang Duoyu insisted on making the trip in person, which was enough to show that he attached great importance to this matter.
Therefore, Yu Zhengze did not dare to be careless or neglect this matter.
While Yu Zhengze was busy contacting other professors in their department, Wang Duoyu had already arrived at the secretary's office and met Liu Deben.
"Secretary, I'm here to apply for a project. Please reserve at least 2 billion RMB and 200 million USD for me..."
Liu Deben was originally very happy to see Wang Duoyu coming in, but when he heard that the other party asked for so much money, his smile froze instantly.
Two billion RMB and two hundred million US dollars, this amount of money is too much.
"Duoyu, what project requires so much money?"
Liu Deben asked Wang Duoyu to sit down and asked for details.
He did not tell us about Harbin Institute of Technology's current financial situation, but wanted to find out if the money could be saved.
Wang Duoyu was not vague and directly introduced the basic situation in detail.
For an astronomical telescope observatory, the infrastructure is not valuable; what really costs money is the telescope equipment.
Take the Hale Telescope built in 1948 as an example. In 1928, George Hale, an astrophysicist at the University of Chicago, received a grant of $6 million from the Rockefeller Foundation. Under the management of the California Institute of Technology, which he co-founded, he planned to design and build an observatory including a five-meter reflecting mirror.
The first step was to choose a location. We decided to choose Mount Palomar, 1,700 meters above sea level in California, because there is less light pollution there.
However, due to the impact of World War II, it was finally completed in 1948.
But the entire construction process, not to mention the technical aspects, consumed a lot of materials alone.
For example, in order to reduce deformation caused by slow heat conduction, the entire back of the glass was cast into a honeycomb shape. After casting, it underwent ten months of annealing treatment. Finally, a special train was used to transport the mirror blank along a specific route to the Palomar Observatory under construction for grinding.
31 tons of abrasive are needed to grind away 4.5 tons of glass in the center of the mirror. The final mirror itself weighs 14.5 tons, the tube weighs 140 tons, and the rotating part of the entire telescope weighs 530 tons.
Such a huge machine can operate smoothly. It can photograph celestial bodies as dim as magnitude 23. In other words, it is 600 million times darker than the dimmest celestial body we can see with the naked eye.
And after long exposure, it is even possible to capture the spectrum of galaxies as far away as 10 billion light-years.
In addition, there is an extremely critical technical problem, that is, such a large lens will sag slightly due to its own weight when it is rotated to different positions, changing the accuracy of the surface shape, and the accuracy of the lens must be maintained within one two-millionth of an inch.
That is twenty-five nanometers!
Therefore, during the construction process, in order to solve such problems, it is necessary to use a single thin lens or a mirror group composed of many flexible small lenses, whose shape can be automatically controlled by the internal support cells using a computer-controlled servo system.
So just considering the amount of work involved, it won’t be easy.
Of course, Wang Duoyu wanted to build a five-meter astronomical telescope observatory. Only in this way could he accomplish what he wanted to do.
Of course, let alone this era, even in the future, there is no large optical telescope observatory of five meters in our country.
So, the difficulty and technical requirements of building such an optical telescope observatory are simply unimaginable.
On the other hand, it is also very expensive.
After hearing this, Liu Deben was completely shocked.
