Chapter 47, Straightening (Please Read)
"Leader, this is impossible. 100% accuracy is pure fantasy. Guns are used by humans, and all sorts of accidents can happen during the process. How can one achieve 100% accuracy?"

Wang Duoyu was completely dumbfounded. One hundred percent accuracy? It was pure nonsense.

Before Chen Mingzhang could continue asking questions, Kong Lingxian and others had already called over Lao Zhang, Lao Li and other eighth-level workers, and the meeting continued.

But the following meeting was actually to familiarize themselves with the technical details and did not discuss stupid questions such as whether chromium-molybdenum high-alloy steel could be produced.

That afternoon they were familiarizing themselves with the technology, and in the evening, Chen Mingzhang dragged Lin Dehong to drink together. Wang Duoyu didn't want to drink at first, but he couldn't escape.

When Wang Duoyu woke up the next day, he didn't feel a headache or anything, but he was still not as refreshed as before. After all, a hangover would have some impact on the body. Even though he was young and in good health, it would still be affected.

In the workshop, technical workers such as Lao Zhang and Lao Li began to carry out various operations and had started to manufacture high-alloy chromium-molybdenum steel. After all, this manufacturing process requires precise control and complex heat treatment technology, so Wang Duoyu was watching from the side.

He could only provide verbal technical guidance and check technical parameters, but he had no way to help with the operation.

Because this alloy steel needs to be solution treated and annealed to optimize its performance, solution treatment is usually carried out at 1050-1150 degrees Celsius, followed by rapid cooling, while annealing needs to be carried out at 800-850 degrees Celsius, followed by slow cooling.

Wang Duoyu stood not far from the forging equipment, watching the workers skillfully forge the heated metal materials into the required shape and structure.

The overall manufacturing process of high-alloy chromium-molybdenum steel barrels consists of two processes, one is hot rolling, which is the backlog of seamless steel pipes, and the other is cold rolling.

Taking hot rolling as an example, the process is to first heat the round tube billet, then pierce it, and then perform roller cross-rolling, continuous rolling or extrusion. Then it is tube-holding, sizing, cooling and straightening, and finally water pressure testing. If there is no problem, it can be marked and put into storage.

The equipment needed in this process include hydraulic roller crushers, shot blasting machines, quenching equipment, forging equipment, as well as mechanical processing equipment including lathes and milling machines. Although Bingcheng Steel Plant is not a professional gun barrel processing unit, it has all these equipment.

The production unit of the Type 63 automatic rifle barrel is the Shancheng Construction Factory. The origin of this unit is not simple. Before liberation, it was the Hanyang Arsenal. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, it was renamed the Shancheng Construction Factory and is located in the southwest corner of Shancheng.

Unfortunately, the production process of the Type 63 automatic rifle was simplified, and before the Type 63 firearm was finalized, it was during the three-year period of natural disasters. At that time, there were internal and external troubles and the country was in dire straits. Therefore, the birth of the Type 63 automatic rifle was inherently flawed.

In addition, straightening the axis of the barrel requires very demanding skills, which is one of the reasons why the Type 63 automatic rifle was forced to voluntarily apply for suspension of production.

The first high-alloy chromium-molybdenum steel barrel has been manufactured, but the manufacture of the barrel does not mean that it is completed. Straightening the inner axis is a huge challenge. Does the Ice City Steel Plant have workers to complete this task?

Chen Mingzhang had already convened a meeting with all workers at the steel mill, level five and above, to urge them to confidently carry out the straightening and complete all the manufacturing work on the barrel. By this point, Chen Mingzhang was no longer simply helping his old comrade Lin Dehong; he was hoping that Bingcheng Steel Mill would secure the order for the assault rifle barrels, as this would be a significant achievement.

From last year's national college entrance examination to this July's college entrance examination, to the current volatile external environment, the retirement of the Type 63 automatic rifle, and then the signal of troop reduction, etc., although the signals released above are still very vague, Chen Mingzhang can already sense a bad premonition that is about to hit.

Perhaps he didn't know that this was the dark night that marked the beginning of a great era, but his feeling was not wrong. If he didn't make changes, he might really be abandoned by the times.

What's more, the assault rifle developed by Wang Duoyu is likely to be accepted by the above. In addition, the carbon fiber barrel mentioned by Wang Duoyu is definitely a treasure.

If I remember correctly, the last time the two of them were drinking, Lin Dehong talked to him about the high probability of forming a special forces unit because the troops needed to be reduced in number, but the combat effectiveness of the troops would not decline.

At its peak, the army had more than six million soldiers. Even though there are not so many now, it still needs to be streamlined. But if it still has the same five or six family barrels and other firearms as before, and they are just ordinary soldiers, then after the reduction in personnel, the combat effectiveness will definitely decline. This is definitely not a situation that everyone wants to see.

Then the formation of special forces became what everyone expected, but the special forces were only reported in foreign magazines, and only mentioned briefly without elaborating on them.

But no matter what, if we want to form such a special forces unit, we must first solve the shortcomings in firepower, especially the effective range and accuracy of sniper rifles.

The carbon fiber barrel mentioned by Wang Duoyu can perfectly solve these problems, so Chen Mingzhang's idea is very simple, to help Lin Dehong to trial-produce an improved assault rifle, and to make friends with Wang Duoyu, hoping that their Bingcheng Steel Plant can win the carbon fiber barrel research and development project and subsequent production tasks.

Wang Duoyu had no idea that Secretary Chen Mingzhang standing next to him had already thought so much. At this moment, he was just staring at the gun barrel. As long as a qualified gun barrel appeared, the final test could be carried out.

He also held a gun barrel and slowly pushed it forward with tools. He wanted to make a gun barrel by himself that would allow the bullet to move in a spiral trajectory, so he was extremely careful when making the inner bore axis.

As a science student, his hands-on ability is not weak. Lin Dehong and Chen Mingzhang just watched quietly from the side. Anyway, this step is not very dangerous.

As time passed, the two gun barrels became scrapped and had to be thrown back to be reforged before they could be used again. However, this was a steel plant, so this was not a big problem.

But the workshop director Kong Lingxian, who was watching this, couldn't help but say, "Comrade Wang, if you don't know how to straighten it, don't force yourself. These barrels took a lot of effort to make. It would be a shame to waste them like this. Our factory can't afford your efforts."
