I've never felt happy to become an immortal.

Chapter 229 Ominous! Ominous! Extremely Ominous!

Chapter 229 Ominous! Ominous! Extremely Ominous! (Third Update)
Jinlongshan Senso-ji Temple.

This is probably one of the most popular temples in all of Tokyo.

His first visit to Senso-ji Temple was not for seeking divine intervention; his initial goal was simply sightseeing. Now, however, he was more interested in catching a few rare creatures to see.

As for whether I'm nervous or not?

Of course I'm not nervous.

Before, we might have been more cautious.

But now he felt that with his mental strength, even an entire mercenary group couldn't hurt a hair on his head. With his mental telekinesis, he could lift two cars, not to mention the three supernatural powers that were on his side.

If it were you, you would be just as confident.

The Sixth Divine Power Edict is inherently incompatible with all kinds of gods and Buddhas.

He didn't use it directly, firstly because there were too many people here and too many eyes watching, and secondly because he knew this was the other party's territory, and he could leave, but the other party couldn't.

In the true cultivation world, all deities who receive the power of incense offerings are bound by rules and cannot easily leave their place.

In other words, receiving offerings from the local people is equivalent to obtaining a local government job. Once you have a job, you can't just leave whenever you want.

He walked into Senso-ji Temple and saw people drawing fortune sticks. Drawing fortune sticks here is free. There are several fortune sticks in total, which are placed on the other side. You pick one up and shake it, and then find the fortune stick according to the number. If it is an ominous fortune, you leave it there and tie it to a tree branch. If it is a lucky fortune, you can take it with you.

"How about we draw lots?" Chinatsu Hanekawa suggested.

Bai Xuan casually picked up the fortune-telling container, shook it, and got a paper fortune slip.

--fierce.

He didn't believe it and shook it again, getting another slip of paper.

--fierce!

Repeat a third time.

—A very bad omen!
The three consecutive unlucky divination sticks startled the monk explaining them, who hurriedly said, "Just tie this stick to a tree branch to ward off bad luck."

Bai Xuan stared at the ominous fortune slip in his hand, not paying much attention, but instead looked at the three women.

Ren Qinglan shook her head: "Fierce."

Grandma Shangguan Ying said, "It's fierce."

“Very ominous,” said Chinatsu Hanekawa.

The group exchanged glances, their expressions not looking too good.

The four people drew lots a total of six times, and all of them got bad luck? And all of them were the worst possible lot?
Is Senso-ji Temple cursed?
"Feudal superstition," the pretty mother said dismissively. "Don't bother with it. We're all Chinese. What right do those foreign ghosts and gods have to control our fortune?"

As he spoke, he pulled the two of them aside to take pictures.

Bai Xuan picked up the slips of paper and glanced at each one.

Because the fortune slip was written in Chinese, although it was all poetry, the meaning was not difficult to understand... they all meant the same thing.

—Hurry up!

The young monk whispered, "Esteemed benefactor, the fortune sticks here aren't very accurate."

"Monks don't lie."

"Is the Bodhisattva pointing me out?"

Bai Xuan took the paper slip with him and headed towards the main hall: "Since we're already here, how can we not pay our respects?"

The issuance of three consecutive approvals, like three consecutive imperial edicts signaling the retreat of troops, revealed the panic in his heart.

A person who sits on a high seat, adorned in gold, and shouts loudly must harbor a hidden cowardice.

He walked straight toward the main hall, and the monks behind him, probably worried that Bai Xuan would lose his temper and cause trouble, followed him.

Then an older monk blocked Bai Xuan's path: "Please wait, benefactor."

Bai Xuan asked, "Is something the matter?"

"May I offer you a word of advice, benefactor?" The old monk said kindly, "If you do not mind, you may come to the meditation room, where I will invite you to have some tea."

"No need," Bai Xuan said. "I came to see the Buddha. As a tourist, is it appropriate to prevent me from entering the temple to burn incense and worship Buddha?"

The old monk touched his bald head and sighed, "Benefactor, the Bodhisattva... is not very willing."

"Unwilling?" Bai Xuan said coldly, "What He thinks is none of my business."

"Even if you don't care about the Buddha, you should care about the monks..." the old monk said sincerely. "Please don't make things difficult for us working people, it's not easy for us either."

Bai Xuan took out six fortune slips and waved them in front of the old monk, then pointed to the statues of the Wind and Thunder Gods at the door: "It wasn't me who caused trouble, it was them who caused trouble first."

"What? I'm already at the door, and you still won't show yourself?"

"You really think this is some foreign country where I can't deal with you?"

With his spiritual power activated, an invisible wave of energy spread out, reaching the main hall.

The sixth supernatural power, the imperial edict, released a faint glow from his clasped fingertips.

Suddenly, the main hall began to shake and tremble, and even the roof tiles began to make a crisp, clattering sound.

"An earthquake?" The young novice monk behind him looked at the shaking buildings and subconsciously thought it was an earthquake.

However, since island nations are prone to earthquakes, the people at the scene were not particularly panicked, as the intensity of the earthquake was not too strong.

However, as the tremor intensified, the people remaining in the hall began to disperse.

Many people walked too fast, leaving a lot of things on the ground. A group of monks also ran out of the temple, shouting for people to hurry to an open area.

Only Bai Xuan and the old monk stood firm like rocks in the flowing water. The crowd brushed past them, leaving them alone in a silent confrontation in front of the main hall.

The old monk remained silent.

Bai Xuan brought his fingertips together, and the tremor throughout Senso-ji Temple intensified once again.

"Still not coming out?"

"Amitabha..." The old monk clasped his hands together and said, "Please calm your anger, benefactor."

The old monk's eyes shone with a faint golden light, clearly indicating that the one speaking was not him, but the Holy Guanyin enshrined in the main hall.

This is not possession.

Because true gods do not possess bodies, and those who are not possessed are true gods.

The "Supreme Heavenly Altar Jade Regulations" clearly state: "All the supreme immortals and gods do not possess the bodies of living people. If they possess the bodies of living people and speak, they are definitely evil demons and heretics."

Zhang Daoling's commentary on Xiang'er emphasizes: "All those who possess bodies are merely worldly tricks and not the true path."

This is not unique to Taoism; Buddhism has also offered similar interpretations.

Neither Buddha nor deities can possess or occupy the minds of believers. At this moment, the old monk's five senses were being used; the Bodhisattva's true form remained seated in the temple.

"Calm down?" Bai Xuan said calmly, "How dare I... I was scared out of my wits by those six ominous divination slips. How could I dare to come here to ask for an explanation? I'm afraid I'll be hit by a plane every time I go out in my car."

Even the Bodhisattva could understand sarcastic remarks, and sighed again: "The matter of the divination slip was not my intention, but rather something that some people in the temple did on their own, wanting to vent their anger for the Wind God and Thunder God, and also to drive the benefactor out."

Bai Xuan countered, "Then let me ask you... when I entered, the Wind God and Thunder God were disrespectful to me, and I didn't hold it against them. Was that my fault?"

The Holy Guanyin Bodhisattva shook her head: "If you truly harbored evil intentions, I'm afraid the Wind God and Thunder God would have already been shattered."

"So you knew?" Bai Xuan smiled.

The next moment, his spiritual power burst forth, and a hurricane howled across the sky above Senso-ji Temple, the sound of which was like a dragon's roar, sending chills down one's spine.

"Since you know...shouldn't you give me an explanation?"

"You are the principal deity of Senso-ji Temple, and everything here is under your jurisdiction."

"Don't try to pass the buck and shirk responsibility with me. What kind of bodhisattva are you? You might as well let them take their seats."

The old monk looked embarrassed and muttered in a low voice, "I am ashamed... As the manager of Senso-ji Temple, I have an inescapable responsibility. If you have any complaints, please come to me."

Bai Xuan simply said "okay".

If the three ominous signs were only directed at him, he wouldn't be so angry. But when his family members all drew ominous signs, the nature of the situation changed.

Even if he broke the golden statue of the Bodhisattva, he would have no reason to feel guilty.

The other party broke the rules first!

If you can't even distinguish between friend and foe, I bet you've never seen a terrestrial deity.

At this moment, several young monks ran out from the other side.

They knelt down on the ground with a thud; there were five of them in total.

They all possess a radiance of human virtue and are imbued with the power of incense offerings.

"Please forgive us, immortals, for we have not harmed the Bodhisattva. We will bear all the blame ourselves!"

These young novices are quite young, and it's unclear whether they are even human or what kind of spiritual path they are practicing.

"Alas..." the Bodhisattva sighed, "What's the use of regretting it now? I was too indulgent towards you in the past."

He clasped his hands in a respectful bow to Bai Xuan: "Benefactor, could you please be merciful and not harm the true spirits of my disciples?"

Bai Xuan originally had no intention of killing him; his main goal was to teach him a lesson.

Taking three steps forward, the release of mental energy created an extremely terrifying and powerful illusion around him.

The five young monks turned pale with fright, and one of them fainted, his eyes rolling back and foaming at the mouth.

Bai Xuan stopped there, pointing behind him: "Go and apologize yourselves. As long as they forgive you, I won't hold it against you."

The little ones, as if granted a pardon, ran quickly towards the three women, crying and begging for forgiveness from their older sister, aunt, and grandmother for their prank.

"The benefactor is kind-hearted." The Bodhisattva breathed a sigh of relief.

"I'm not some great philanthropist," Bai Xuan said calmly. "I have something else to ask you."

"Then, please proceed to the tea room... Your relatives will be taken care of by others in the temple."

The old monk led Bai Xuan to an area of the temple that was not open to outsiders.

This is a tea room.

"Please sit." He began to brew tea: "What would you like to ask, benefactor?"

“You are the first deity I have ever seen,” Bai Xuan said, “but you cannot see one in China.”

“There are few gods and cultivators in China… while the island of Neon retains a certain amount of spiritual energy, which can accumulate merit and collect incense offerings. That is why I came here from the east.” The Holy Guanyin Bodhisattva explained, “However, it does not mean that the other side does not exist. It’s just that they rarely show themselves and will not be noticed by a great being like you, benefactor.”

"Great power, me?" Bai Xuan said dismissively, "I think I'm pretty average."

“You flatter me, benefactor. Your cultivation level… I cannot fathom it. To be able to command the wind and rain in this era, to change the world with a single thought, what else could you be but a great being? Even the most powerful gods and Buddhas of the past could not compare to you.” The Bodhisattva was quite polite, and one could detect curiosity, caution, and care in his tone.

"So, this means that city gods exist in all regions, and even Mazu and Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva do?"

"Yes, but not as mysterious... Ksitigarbha is a being with great supernatural powers and profound merits, unlike us, for it is too difficult to save others and seek merits." The Bodhisattva clasped his hands and sighed softly.

Bai Xuan asked a few more questions, which satisfied his curiosity.

Because of the limitations imposed by spiritual energy, the only path for cultivation in the modern world is to accumulate human merit or collect incense offerings and prayers.

Many places lack City Gods because their vows are too weak and insufficient to support their manifestation; they remain dormant and therefore are not very effective.

This world is very close to the Well of Reincarnation, and most spirits cannot stay there and will be quickly sent to reincarnation, so it is even more difficult to obtain merit in the human realm.

After all, fulfilling the wishes of living beings is difficult, and things that can be called meritorious are even fewer.

On the other hand, fulfilling the wishes of the deceased is relatively easy.

Upon hearing this, Bai Xuan secretly pondered that it was almost exactly what he had thought.

He also inquired about the situation in the West, but received only an awkward smile from the Bodhisattva, like a sweating soybean.

That's true... He is an Eastern deity, and crossing eastward is the limit for him. How could he possibly know what's going on in the West?

"Speaking of which, the cherry blossoms in Bunkyo Ward haven't bloomed lately. Do you know why?" Bai Xuan asked casually.

“I have heard a little about it; I’ve heard that Princess Cherry Blossom refuses to bloom,” the Bodhisattva said.

"Can you fix it?"

"This, allow me to think about it..." The Holy Guanyin Bodhisattva dared not make any promises in front of this person, and it would be best to send this great god away as soon as possible.

"I should be able to earn merit," Bai Xuan said, as human merit was useless to him.

Sensing the scent of merit, the Holy Guanyin Bodhisattva immediately said, "You flatter me, benefactor."

"The cherry blossoms in Bunkyo Ward are not blooming, and I wonder how many people are saddened by this."

"Sakura-hime must have some unresolved issues on her mind..."

"This humble monk will certainly try his best to mediate and make an introduction!"

"There's no need to go to too much trouble."

Bai Xuan waved his hand, got up and walked out of the tea room without even drinking any tea.

"You only need to tell her one sentence."

"She can change into her brocade and jade robes now."
