Chapter 193: He's really sick!

"Bai Wanqing," Lin Yunche looked at Bai Wanqing with a hurt expression, "Do you really think that way? Even if I marry another woman, you won't care at all?"

"Or were you lying to me yesterday?"

"Are you planning to bring up divorce the moment Hai Shengyang walks through the door?"

Just like how you treated Meng Zhan back then? Lin Yunche didn't say the last sentence aloud, but he knew Bai Wanqing would probably do that!
So, are he and Meng Zhan actually not different?

Bai Wanqing looked at Lin Yunche in surprise, "It's just a concubine who's come into the family."

Why should I bring up divorce with you?

Lin Yunche was even angrier now. Did he think he was less important to Bai Wanqing than Meng Zhan?
"Fine! Didn't you want Miss Hai to come in?"

"I'll do as you wish."

Lin Yunche ran to the bed like a child and pulled the blanket over himself.

Bai Wanqing frowned slightly, "What's wrong with you?"

"Since Hai Shengyang knows about something so important, why don't we agree to this condition?"

As Bai Wanqing spoke, Lin Yunche remained sullenly hidden under the covers, refusing to show his face.

Bai Wanqing walked helplessly to the bedside and sat down gently. "Husband, this matter is of great importance. Why don't we discuss it with Mother before making a decision?"

Bai Wanqing suddenly felt a pang of regret. If the Lin family lost their chance to turn things around because of her, would she forgive herself?

No! She won't!

When Lin Yunche heard Bai Wanqing say that she wanted to talk to her mother, he immediately sat up.

"Bai Wanqing, do you distrust me that much?" Lin Yunche's phoenix eyes turned red with anger.

"You think I need to offer myself to you to find out what I want from a mere Hai Shengyang?"

"Or do you think I should accept any woman who comes to me with certain conditions?"

Lin Yunche was already feeling a bit wronged, and he lowered his head and growled.

Bai Wanqing felt a pang of pain in her heart when she saw Lin Yunche like this. "I didn't mean that!"

"I never intended to use you as a bargaining chip."

"I'm just afraid because I'll be delaying your plans."

"It's a big deal!"

Lin Yunche felt a little better after seeing Bai Wanqing's anxious explanation.

"Wanqing, I know what I'm doing, but I forbid you from mentioning taking a concubine again."

"Let's not mention these things anymore, including the concubine, okay?"

Lin Yunche stared expectantly at Bai Wanqing, who smiled and nodded, "Okay!"

"I promise you, as long as I'm here, I will never let any other woman get close to you again."

Lin Yunche smiled contentedly. He took Bai Wanqing's hand and looked at her with deep affection, saying, "I, Lin Yunche, have already decided on you for the rest of my life."

"You'd better not even think about divorce, I won't let you go."

"Okay!" Bai Wanqing smiled and fell into Lin Yunche's arms.

The misunderstanding between the two was cleared up, and they both slept well that night. Lin Yunche didn't wake up until Ruixin came to knock on the door the next day.

He opened his eyes, looked at Bai Wanqing sleeping soundly beside him, and couldn't help but lean his head forward and plant a kiss on Bai Wanqing's forehead.

"Good morning!" Lin Yunche said softly, a smile playing on his lips.

After saying that, he tiptoed off the bed, afraid of waking Bai Wanqing, and simply threw on a coat before leaving the room.

"Master, is Madam still not awake?"

As Ruixin spoke, she was about to go into the room. Yesterday, Madam had said that she should go to the clinic early today to finalize the free clinic arrangements.

Lin Yunche, however, kept Ruixin outside the door.

"Wanqing has been too tired these past two days, let her sleep a little longer."

Looking at the corners of her son-in-law's mouth that were unconsciously turned up, Ruixin suddenly remembered what Fengniang had said yesterday. Was this the good thing Fengniang was talking about?

The son-in-law has finally shown some concern for the young lady!
"Sir, Madam says..."

Lin Yunche raised his hand to interrupt, "You listen to everything your wife says, but why don't you listen to what your husband says!"

Ruixin opened her mouth, but for a moment she didn't know what to say.

"Sir, what do you mean?"

Lin Yunche curled the right corner of his lips. "Silly Ruixin, from now on, you must listen to anything that is good to your young lady, and you must not listen to anything that is bad to her."

With that, Lin Yunche jogged to the study next door.

Ruixin stood there stunned, and it took her a while to come to her senses.

"Wait a minute! Master, I am Miss's dowry maid, so of course I have to listen to her!"

But Ruixin ultimately did not wake Bai Wanqing. After half an hour, Bai Wanqing woke up, and Ruixin brought in the boiled water and breakfast.

"What time is it?" Bai Wanqing asked, getting out of bed.

"Madam, it's already past 5 a.m. (the hour of Mao)."

Bai Wanqing looked around but did not see Lin Yunche.

"Has my husband gone to the yamen?"

Ruixin shook her head. "No! Madam, the master is acting very strangely today."

"He's been smiling all morning, and just now he wouldn't let me come and wake you."

"What's wrong with you, sir?"

Bai Wanqing pursed her lips, a smile she couldn't hide flashing in her eyes. "It's alright! Let's finish eating quickly and go to the clinic!"

Ruixin hummed in agreement and quickly helped Bai Wanqing with her hair and makeup.

Meanwhile, in the Huaizhou government office...

Cao Zhe and Ma Yu arrived early. When they entered the government office, only Meng Zhan was waiting for them.

They didn't catch a glimpse of Lin Yunche or Hai Chengming. Ma Yu, with her fiery temper, was practically cursing at the government office.

"Lord Meng, are all the people from Huaizhou Prefecture so arrogant?"

Meng Zhan smiled awkwardly, "Brother, you've misunderstood."

"The adults are all sick! When you're sick, you naturally need to rest and recover, how can that be considered putting on airs!"

Meng Zhan was in a bad mood! Ever since he learned this morning that Bi Yi had gone to the countryside with Magistrate Han because of a case, he had been thinking about asking for leave today.

He had no desire to confront these two brutes under the command of the Prince of Huai.

But who would have thought that Lord Hai would send someone over early in the morning, saying that Lord Hai had suddenly fallen ill last night and that Meng Zhan must come to the government office to keep an eye on things no matter what.

He knew it! He knew that none of this good fortune would come his way.

"Ill? Lord Lin is ill, and Lord Hai is ill too?"

Meng Zhan could only nod, "Yes."

"Brother Cao, listen to this! Anyone who doesn't know the city would think that Huaizhou has been struck by a plague!"

"One person's illness spread to the entire government office."

Ma Yu turned around and glared at Meng Zhan, saying fiercely, "I think it's because everyone in Huaizhou City has never taken the Prince of Huai seriously!"

These words made Meng Zhan break out in a cold sweat.

"How could that be! How could that be? It's just a coincidence."

Ma Yu, however, had no intention of letting Meng Zhan off the hook. "Is it really just a coincidence?"

Meng Zhan paused for a moment, then nodded. "Yes! It's a coincidence."

"Brother Cao, let's go and see if anyone in Huaizhou City still has a single truth to tell."

If not.

Ma Yu chuckled, "We'll go back and report the truth to Prince Huai."

"You people can just wait for the impeachment memorials."

After Ma Yu finished speaking, he left the government office with Cao Zhe.

Meng Zhan stood there, unable to express his bitterness; he was about to lose his position as magistrate.

"By the way! The Yang family, Yang Yan hasn't fulfilled his promise to him yet."

Meng Zhan made his decision and said he would urge Yang Peiran to ask about transferring him to the capital when he got back.

Cao Zhe and Ma Yu rode their horses, galloping through the market without a care in the world.

"Get out of the way! Get out of the way, you ignorant commoners, all of you get out of the way."

Ma Yu rode his horse and shouted as he ran.

Cao Zhe felt he was being too high-profile, so he immediately stepped forward and blocked his horse.

"Ma Yu, don't be too flashy."

Ma Yu snorted, "Brother Cao, stop talking about me, shall we go to the Lin family now?"

"Let's go to the Hai family's place first."

"Lin Yunche can't escape, but I want to see what tricks Hai Chengming will play this time!"

Ma Yu knew that Brother Cao was dissatisfied with Lord Hai and didn't even want to leave Hai Chengming any dignity.

"Okay! We'll do as Brother Cao says."

Cao Zhe and Ma Yu arrived at the Hai family's courtyard in a menacing manner.

As soon as Ma Yu dismounted, he hurriedly knocked on the door, and soon the Hai family's steward rushed out to greet him.

The moment the steward peeked out, before he could even get a good look at him, he asked, "Has the doctor arrived?"

Ma Yu and Cao Zhe exchanged glances. The steward also noticed that neither of them was carrying a medicine box, so they were clearly not doctors.

"Who are you looking for, you two?"

Cao Zhe stepped forward and introduced himself, "I am Cao Zhe, a staff member of His Highness the Prince of Huai."

"Ma Yu".

"I heard that Lord Hai is ill, so I came to see him."

Upon hearing that it was a staff member of Prince Huai, the steward dared not be negligent. He immediately summoned the servants behind him and went to the backyard to ask Lord Hai how to handle the situation.

At this moment, Hai Daren was feeling nauseous and vomiting, and kept going to the bathroom.

When the servants announced that Cao Zhe and his group had arrived, Lord Hai's face paled even more.

"Quickly! Have the steward bring them in. We can't delay."

Hai Daren, barely holding on, gave the instructions, but as soon as he finished speaking, he felt a sharp pain in his abdomen again, so he turned around and ran back to the washroom.

Cao Zhe and Ma Yu were led to the main hall by the Hai family steward.

The steward respectfully served tea to the two of them, and a little while later, there was another knock on the front door.

The servants rushed in to report, "Steward, it's the doctor! The doctor has arrived!"

The steward turned to Cao Zhe and Ma Yu to say goodbye. Cao Zhe glanced at the chaotic scene outside the courtyard and waved for the steward to leave first.

"From what I can see, Lord Hai seems to be truly ill," Cao Zhe said.

Ma Yu gulped down the entire bowl of tea. "Hmph! Those old foxes are the best at putting on an act. Maybe Lin Yunche will act the same way when we go to the Lin family later."

"If you ask me, why don't we go to the backyard now and scare that old bastard?"

Cao Zhe smiled slightly, took a sip of tea, and said, "Alright, let's go now!"

Cao Zhe and Ma Yu stood up, not expecting that Lord Hai would arrive.

He was supported by servants on both sides, his face looked haggard, and his lips were even paler than yesterday.

Cao Zhe was surprised. How could he have become so haggard overnight? Even Ma Yu was speechless. After all, Lord Hai had visibly lost a lot of weight.

"Dr. Hai, are you really sick?"
