Chapter 12: Being Haunted by Strange Things!
Hera Molly raised her hand, interrupting the spell she was currently performing. The hundreds of tomes surrounding her, pages constantly flipping and open, closed in unison, and she cast her gaze towards the area directly south.
"I'm a little interested."
All the books were returned to their shelves, and she walked out of her ritual hall. The biting cold wind from the sea of ghosts hit her face, then died away at the invisible barrier outside the ritual tower.
This is Winterhold, the original ancient Nord capital.
This is the School of Magic in Winterhold, where Shalidor, the most powerful Ascended wizard ever to ascend, was founded. Even after the Great Collapse, which destroyed much of ancient Winterhold, the school's walls and towers remain standing. Flowing tides of magic form azure fountains at numerous points, and even just standing here, one can clearly sense the subtle magical gains.
The college was once great.
The Academy will be great again.
She descended lightly from the summit of the ceremonial tower. Meditation was taking place at the nexus fountain, and the apprentices who were practicing rose to their feet and bowed to greet her. Her casual glance over them was enough to make even the most reserved apprentice puff out their chests with pride.
"It's Senior Hera! She's finally emerged from the ritual tower!" The dark elf girl watched her back, her face beaming with joy. "Has her new magic finally been completed? What will it look like this time?"
"It is said that she became a high-level wizard in just two years. Could it be that she showed up this time to prepare for the trial ceremony of the archmage?" The rare tiger apprentice in Skyrim looked at her in awe, his eyes filled with fighting spirit.
"I wish I had half of her talent..." The Nord apprentice with local Skyrim household registration sighed with envy and could not continue his meditation for a long time.
The apprentices discussed quietly and chattered until an old professor appeared near the node, and then they returned to their normal state.
Hera ignored them.
They are always like this.
She simply walked forward, past corridors and barriers, until a thick door opened before her. Behind a mountain of documents lay a mature female mage, furiously writing, without even looking up, announcing the uninvited visitor.
"I've told you many times not to bother you unless you have something important to do...it's you."
Mirabelle Moven, the de facto administrator of the Winterhold School of Magic and assistant to the chief mage, paused her writing and raised her eyebrows slightly.
"Are you finally willing to come out of your ritual tower? Tell me, what's the matter?"
"I'm telling you, remember. There's a new Breton male on the apprentice list. He's no older than twenty-two, and his rank is no higher than beginner. He exudes an aura of ancient magic, and is suspected to be related to the Cult of the Dragon. I don't know his name, but he should arrive at the academy within a month."
"The apprentice you're interested in?"
"I don't intend to become a professor. Register with the college."
"Then you take my seat?" The Chief Mage Assistant slammed the pen on the table. "Hera Molly! Don't forget that you haven't graduated yet!"
"He activated the elemental standing stone."
"……Oh."
The Chief Mage's Assistant picked up the pen. "Are you sure?"
Hera didn't answer, just glanced at her.
"I left him a small gift that he'll need. Anyone who can activate the Standing Stone, by whatever means, is destined for greatness. And as long as he's in Skyrim, he'll undoubtedly come to the Academy."
"I understand." The Chief Mage's Assistant raised her hand, and a parchment floated before her, revealing the corresponding text. She raised her head and glanced at Hera. "But you won't leave your ritual hall just because of this. So, have you finished reading all the books in the Vault?"
“Everyone who is interested has finished reading it.”
"Urag will be very sad... Where are you going? To Whiterun to find Drafe and his gang of necromancy-minded dissidents and get back the books they took? Or are you planning to explore some ancient Nord ruins?"
"I'm going to Windhelm." "The Palace of Kings... ah, there are indeed many ancient books there. Wunfels is also there. He is from the same period as me, but I don't think you need his care. But you still have to be careful. Skyrim has been... not very stable recently. Ulfric's radical behavior has caused dissatisfaction among many people. I think his trip to Solitude to meet the High King this time is likely to cause trouble."
"Come back soon." She hesitated, then continued. "The initial excavation of the Sattar ruins is nearing completion. The advisory group from the Thalmor will also arrive at the academy in the near future. The academy needs you, Hera. The academy can also provide you with shelter."
She really does care.
But Hera only gave her a mocking glance.
"Stop kidding yourself, Mirabelle."
"The Guardian Standing Stones have long been a legend known only to a select few in Skyrim. Blessed by the constellations, the Chosen One is destined to appear in times of bloodshed. It would be fine if I were the only one, but now even the Elemental Stones have two Chosen Ones. And there are at least thirteen known Standing Stones in Skyrim."
"A new era is coming soon. No one will be immune. Be prepared for the storm, or something worse than the storm."
..............................
Wu Chen blinked.
The tide of magic subsided around him, and the standing stone before him returned to silence. He pinched his fingers to make sure he was truly awake, and the information he had previously glimpsed from the tide of magic clearly emerged in his mind.
Young mysterious witch, Winterhold College, recruiting students.
The memories of the trip are constantly churning in my mind.
Even though he had long forgotten many details, he could still recall most of the details of Winterhold College, which was a must-go route for players in the War of Faith.
There's absolutely no such young witch in the game who could influence admissions. Even the real College of Winterhold wouldn't have twice as many magic professors as apprentices just for game mechanics. Characters who could influence the worldview wouldn't be absent from the game.
Is it the theoretically existing background board, the foundation of the college?
No, they aren't. A book in the game, "Guardians of the Stone," tells the story of a renowned warrior who spent his life seeking the power of the Stones, but to no avail. Both in gameplay and in lore, these Stones have been dormant for millennia. There can only be one reason for them to be activated.
The chosen one, the protagonist.
In Skyrim's storyline, in addition to the central plot spanning the destruction of dragons, the rise of the Valhac vampires, and the resurrection of the Ancient Dragonborn, there are also four guild paths involving warriors, rogues, assassins, and mages. Community discussions have confirmed that these side quests are unlikely to be carried out by the same individual.
A noble wizard wouldn't steal a small vendor's ring. Nor would a pioneer of the Companions suddenly assassinate the Emperor of Cyrodiil. This means that once the true Elder Scrolls universe unfolds, multiple protagonists with different destinies will inevitably be taking action at the crucial juncture of 4E 201. This is why the Standing Stones could be activated prematurely.
"To think there was such a thing..."
Wu Chen clutched his forehead, his heart growing ever more delighted. Now that the protagonist of the Academy storyline had been chosen, it meant someone would take on the Ancient Dragon Priest, the final enemy. All he had to do was push the story forward as far as possible within three months and ensure he could secure a kill in the final battle.
What a wonderful start!
Wait, there seems to be something else...
Memories surfaced in Wu Chen's mind. The mark inhabiting the standing stone transformed into a book within his cognition. Numerous pieces of knowledge, though vaguely understood and intuitively known to be useful, flashed across them. Finally, the cover of the book appeared before Wu Chen.
Notes on Elementary Magical Knowledge - Hera Mori's Notes
The smile suddenly froze in Wu Chen's mouth.
Hera Molly, the name of an obviously gifted witch, a book of teleportation.
Hermaeus Mora, one of the most powerful and ancient demons, is a collector and guardian of knowledge. He is also a key figure in the world's main storyline and the biggest hidden villain, even without a health bar, making him unselectable.
——Shit, I’m being targeted by the devil!
