Chapter 19: Slipping Away
Wu Chen was a step slower.

He didn't know who this vampire was, why he was here, what kind of ritual he had arranged, and what his goal was. He only knew that he was a step too slow.

The third fireball was finally thrown out.

It struck the ritual platform, and the crumbling tide of magical energy dispersed in all directions. The piled bones shattered and flew apart, accompanied by a visible black aura that hurled itself in all directions.

The breath of death, the breath of curse.

The skeleton giant that was about to take shape was destroyed on the spot by the explosion and curse, but in the center of the destruction, a new individual was born!
The ritual failed, its effectiveness unclear, but whatever it was intended to achieve, it failed.

But failure doesn't mean there will be no impact, nor does it mean there will be no consequences. Twisted spell effects and dark curses filled with hatred and malice combine with each other, and an out-of-control creation whose structure and principles no one knows is reborn in the fire of destruction!
"KEEEE——!"

Scream.

It sounded like the scream of birds and animals.

A pair of asymmetrical skeleton wings suddenly opened, and hundreds of human and animal skulls of different sizes and specifications formed the body in the center of the wings. Thick black smoke spewed out of the holes in each skull, filled with malice towards all living people!

out of control.

The interrupted ritual did not collapse, but instead went out of control.

An indescribable sense of crisis filled Wu Chen's body at that moment, and the next moment, he did not hesitate to interrupt the fourth fireball he was about to throw, but rolled on the ground and fled quickly to the outside!

"Bang——" A huge object scraped the ground.

A large crack tore through Wu Chen's original foothold, and a sharp wind swept across his body. Even though he wasn't directly hit, the outer layer of the Iron Armor began to ripple slightly. Its defense was no longer sufficient at this moment, and a direct hit would have even caused serious injury!
What…thing?
Spell changes.

Before Wu Chen could even find his balance, he grasped an ice blast in his hand. His strengthened and trained body possessed a remarkable balance. At the edge of his sight, the whirling, out-of-control creature braked and came to a halt in midair.

projection.

The frost magic turned into a spiral ice explosion as high as a person the moment it left his hand - it hit, and in an instant a large amount of frost was hung on the target's body - the monster's speed was slightly reduced as a result, but the next moment, the dozens of skulls that made up its body opened together, making a deafening scream!

"KEEEEE——!!!!"

The magic power within Wu Chen's body began to boil slightly, and the two remaining sentinels took a defensive stance. Those who were closer to him began to bleed from their eyes, ears, mouths, and noses, and visible yellow and black waves appeared in the air.

"Cooperate with me!"

The second ice storm erupted with pinpoint accuracy. Wu Chen's study of the spells within the mask hadn't yet sufficed to allow him to master advanced divine spells. Even though throwing a ball of light appeared similar to throwing a fireball, the power structures of destruction and restoration were completely different. But at least, he had a ready-made helper to call upon!
Vigilante Tolan is still able to move.

He barely managed to stand up, and then cast a pure white holy light and fire - the spell successfully hit the target the moment it was released, and cracks appeared in the shell of the giant skeleton bird, accompanied by some scattered gray-white bone fragments!
There was an effect, but not much. The next moment, the slightly injured giant skeletal bird suddenly pounced towards the two surviving sentinels!
It's still fast.

But it was no longer so fast that it could not be intercepted - the ice explosion was followed by a new fireball, and the explosion of the fireball was enough to stop the giant skeleton bird's movement!
Moment.

A glow emanated from the second Sentinel's body, and divine armor was shaped and wrapped around his body. He still held the shining spike that had killed the vampire tightly and pounced towards the giant skeletal bird, which was slightly hindered by the fireball.

The opportunity has been seized.

He managed to hold it in his hands.

However, when the sentinel stabbed the glowing spikes into the grotesque body composed of dozens or hundreds of skeletons, his eyes suddenly widened.

"No! This isn't an ordinary undead—"

A scream.

All the skeletons gathered together and screamed.

That scream was a stream of dark light that spurted out from every skull's eye socket. In just a moment, it pierced the sentinel in front of it with holes!
Not an ordinary undead.

not completely.

The cracks that had appeared earlier due to the bombardment of holy light and fire expanded rapidly, instantly covering every corner of the giant skeletal bird. Large pieces of pale fragments peeled off, and a twisted and grotesque body and filthy gray-black bat wings emerged!

A dragon.

No, not a dragon. Rather, it was a monstrous creature, imbued with dragon energy and possessing some of its own qualities, a creation shaped by a necromancy gone awry. Even the humblest creature, unworthy of the name dragon, could not be shattered by pure divine power!

"Boom!!"

Its incomplete wings spread out, and majesty flowed from the storm. The nearest sentinel, Tolan, was instantly sent flying dozens of meters away. It suddenly turned its head towards Wu Chen and opened its deep, wide mouth.

Energy gathered in the maw. The breath of the beast was building.

Even though this strange creature, which is not even a dragon, cannot even use a dragon roar or spit out its eyes, the huge energy gathered in it due to the broken ritual is enough to support it to release a brute force destructive roar.

will die.

If you are hit, you will definitely die.

Spells have been proven to be ineffective. Using a sword stained with holy water in close combat is a dead end. So the only combat plan left to try is...

--come out!
A silver-white gun appeared in Wu Chen's palm, the target already aimed, the trigger already pulled. With a loud roar and a blazing flame, a bowl-sized hole suddenly ripped open in the dragon-like creature's skull.

"AHHHH——!!!"

The beast's breath swept past.

With a hair's breadth of energy, the earth and gravel beside Wu Chen were reduced to dust. He gripped the gun tightly in his hand and unleashed the third, fourth, and fifth bullets!
Dragons are truly near-perfect creatures. Whether it's physical effects or powerful spells, a dragon's own structure can withstand most of them. However, this perfect and powerful quality cannot be possessed by a crudely crafted, out-of-control ritual!

'Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!'

Four bullets, four explosions. The skeleton beast's head was nearly shattered. Wu Chen strode forward, facing the hail of bullets and dust. The strange form was within reach, and he casually dropped his holy water-soaked sword. At this extremely close range, he unleashed another blast of ice, capable of restricting the movement of any living or dead creature.

The hit is obvious.

It's only natural that it works.

The frost storm caused no harm but restricted movement. Meanwhile, the Desert Eagle, with its unlimited ammunition and no need for reloading, poured pure physical damage into the deformed body.

Until it is crushed.

Until silence.

Wu Chen pulled the trigger thirty-seven times, and the injured beast finally—

My heart skipped a beat.

The blood strangely flowed backwards toward the source of the veins.

Before he could even think, his body involuntarily lunged to the side, and another blazing torrent of energy passed by from behind.

The second one.

Even though the ritual platform had been destroyed, a second one still appeared.

No, perhaps it was precisely because the ritual platform was destroyed that the powerful monster that was supposed to appear was split and degraded into two incomplete skeleton dragon beasts.

Rolling on the ground, he saw, out of the corner of his eye, the Sentinel's Tolan hurling a brilliant firework at the second beast. He had been able to avoid the breath-fire attack from behind not because of his own impressive reflexes, but because of the other beast's cooperation. And in that split second of respite, the first dragon beast, already nearly destroyed by Wu Chen, began to reconstruct within the seething black-red mist!
"Go quickly——"

Tolan's voice was cut off as the second skeletal dragon beast pounced. He was struck, hit, and with broken bones and splattered blood, he was smashed into the rubble of the ancient ruins.

Maybe dead.

Maybe a few seconds to live.

Under the current situation, there is only one way to survive.

Wu Chen closed his eyes.

Falling asleep instantly is a basic skill for a wizard apprentice.

Everything froze, everything stopped at the moment his 'friend' appeared. Wu Chen then turned around and saw another, slightly smaller but still powerful, skeletal dragon beast appear at the end of his sight, in the ruins of the skeletal ritual platform.

The first one could no longer be killed, and he didn't know how many times he had to pull the trigger before he could wipe out this out-of-control ritual creation.

Even if the first one is successfully killed, in a one-on-one situation, the chances of defeating the second one are very low.

I can't fight anymore.

So--

"I want to go back." Wu Chen pursed his lips and made a decision. "Back to Earth."
