Chapter 61: This specialty doesn't taste right

ten seconds.

"...How can there be such a weak ghoul?"

Wu Chen raised his hand and used his newly learned telekinesis to pin the ghoul, whose eye sockets glowed blue, to the ground. Initially, he thought he would fail, as his telekinetic output was limited. However, when he actually took action, he discovered that the ghoul's combat power was weaker than he had expected.

The curse's magic didn't strengthen its power; it felt even weaker to Wu Chen than when he was alive. This might be due to the sunlight and daylight, but it brought more doubts.

"Judging from his clothing, he's a local. Hmm, there's a wound on his back from a sharp object. He was killed and then transformed into a ghoul... Strange, aren't ghouls born from a dragon's curse?"

Tollan's face remained pale, but he had steeled himself, scrutinizing every scrap of information on the ghoul with a sharp gaze. In his understanding, ghouls were often found only in ancient Nord ruins, due to the pervasive influence of the Dragon Cult during the Nordic era. Even during the Dragon Wars, people viewed the power of dragons as a blessing, not a curse.

Some radical scholars even believe that the first High King Ysgramor was also a dragon priest. Although this is not widely accepted, regardless, sleeping in ancient tombs and transforming into wights after death to guard and serve the tomb's owner is a tradition of the ancient Nords.

"Dragons have been gone for a long time... New ghouls shouldn't be born in this era. Could it be that some strange necromancer is conducting some evil experiment?"

"This is a hunter." Guard Captain Vasco also came up, and his men looked around vigilantly - the road leading to Wind Helmet was quite wide, but there were still many small hills and scattered trees on both sides that blocked the view.

"Look at his hands, his pants, and those slight wear and tear. And this—" The veteran reached out and took a knife of strange specifications from the suppressed corpse ghost. The knife was relatively unfamiliar in Wu Chen's eyes, but the experienced locals could tell its purpose at a glance.

This is a skinning knife with a thicker blade, so it peels the hard skin instead of the soft skin. And that means...

"I remember this place. About ten minutes ahead, there's a fairly open woodland on the right. I sometimes see wild boars when I pass by there. There are also many places there that are suitable for setting up hunter camps."

A faint glow emanated from Tolan's palm. However, as soon as it appeared, the weak ghoul, suppressed by telekinesis, began to twitch violently, black smoke billowing from its body. This light power, which would at most inflict minor injuries on a lower-level vampire, actually caused the weak ghoul to wither away!

"So weak." Wu Chen clasped his fingers together, and the resulting beam of telekinesis instantly ripped the weak monster's internal structure apart. His experience in practicing magic had given him a few more insights, bringing him a step further in his study of the arcane.

"But that's no reason to just leave it alone." Tolan nodded.

"That's what we soldiers do." Vasco stood up and mounted his horse. "Looks like I'll have to trouble you two again, Master Daxter and Master Tolan."

He rode on his horse, drew his weapon, and swung it vigorously at his men.

"go!"

The convoy took action.

It moves at a high speed, five times faster than before.

Crossing the road and over the hills, what came into view was indeed a vast, flat land. At the end of the line of sight, a massive mountain peak loomed. And beneath the peak, hidden by the clouds and mist, lay the city of Windhelm.

Wu Chen saw the grasslands and the trees. The air seemed to carry a faint scent of blood. He saw no wild boars or other large wild animals, but within the sparse woods, a strange silence gathered.

It should be a hunter's camp. But whether it is or not, there should be some smell of fireworks around the camp.

When Wu Chen and the others stopped the carriage and rode their war horses into the woods, all they saw was a cold, abandoned camp.

"It's unnaturally cold. There was fighting here not long ago—a surprise attack. A man, or something, emerged from the northern woods. The hunters attacked the moment they saw it."

Vasco dismounted. Truly an experienced veteran, he spotted many effective signs amidst the tangled mess with a single glance. He reached out and touched the slash marks on a small tree near the camp, where a few remaining water stains remained.

"Frost spells... enchanted frost weapons, or perhaps the strange claws of some magical creature. Master Tolan, Master Daxter, what do you think?"

Wu Chen said that just controlling his horse was a tremendous effort. His only riding experience before coming to Skyrim was a rather unpleasant ranch tour on a Northwest Loop Tour. He'd mostly been studying magic in the Lazard caravan, so he hadn't had much time for riding.
"There are dark forces." However, Tolland was an expert. He also jumped off his horse and carefully observed the footprints on the ground.

"The attacker was about seven yards tall (two meters one) and took long, shallow strides, suggesting it was very fast. Several arrows struck it, but caused no damage."

He trotted a few steps to the north and soon found a few fallen arrows. The arrowheads were more or less deformed, which meant that they had indeed hit the target but had not penetrated the defense at all.

"Magic armor...it might manifest as frost, which is different from the armor commonly used by wizards. In most cases, only a few dark creatures like vampires can be so light and swift."

"It must have used a large, sharp sword. It easily killed several men with it." The veteran inspected the camp, observing the dried blood. "It only took one strike, and there was very little blood. It was ice, the sword was covered in ice."

The outlines of the attack quickly began to piece together. Just a short time ago, no more than three hours at most, the six hunters in this camp had spotted a creature from the north, a creature whose very presence betrayed its evil. Without warning, they attacked with arrows and weapons. But their arrows were weak when they landed on the enemy.

The attackers were swift, plunging into the camp in mere seconds. Five of the hunters bravely resisted, but were soon killed. One managed to escape, but was struck in the back from a distance and died soon after. But before the final one perished, the five preceding them, driven by some cursed power, rose again as undead spirits. Together with the attackers, they fled eastward...

"What's in the east?" Wu Chen finally found a topic he could talk about.

"There's a farm... where the Drunkard family lives. Porfredda makes red cheese mixed with snow plums. I bought one from her just three months ago." Vasco gritted his teeth and jumped on his horse. "Damn it! The blood's all dried up! I don't know if it's too late to go now!"

"We have to try!" Tolan pulled the reins. "Monsters that attack humans in broad daylight are extremely rare. If it's not a vampire, then it might be a demon from the Oblivion Realm! We have to take it down before more people get killed!"

They all looked at Wu Chen. Wu Chen waved the staff he had seized from the depths of the mines vigorously to indicate his approval. Wu Chen had commissioned a blacksmith to temporarily package the bone staff before leaving the Kaina Forest. After applying a layer of lacquer, he then wrapped it in cloth strips.

"I just want to find some monsters to fight."

Wizards always say strange things, but everyone can understand what they mean. The captain of the guard nodded vigorously and looked at his colleagues and subordinates.

"Grek, Randall! The two of you take my token and immediately go to the Windhelm Watchtower and tell those fools what happened here. If they are not here or we have not returned, then go into the city and go to the Hall of Kings to find Lord Jorefu."

"Everyone else! Follow me, Master Dust, and Master Tolan, and head full speed towards Drunkard Farm!"
