Conquer Europe from the West

Chapter 33: Commander-in-Chief of the Regiment

Chapter 33: Commander-in-Chief of the Regiment

"Nice name. Let's go, Warrant Officer!"

Ryan flattered the silver-haired girl, who was only as tall as his chest, and immediately made a marching gesture.

But Warrant Officer Soma didn't set out immediately. Instead, he faced Ryan and asked, "Excuse me, Captain, is you the Captain Flig who led the team that sank four Republic-class airships?"

"Ok?"

Ryan raised his eyebrows and noticed a lot of hot gazes coming from all around.

"it's me."

He nodded, thinking to himself - what's wrong with these people? Isn't it just to kill...

and many more……

What unit did this girl just say she was from?

Air Force Second Fleet?

The Air Force also has a fleet?

Damn, is he from the airship unit?

In an instant, Ryan realized why these people turned their attention to him.

"That was just a fluke. The enemy's airship didn't have an altitude advantage, and they weren't well-guarded. It's not something you can replicate, so don't take it too seriously."

The Tao is in the heart.

Are you kidding? I just happened to have a dozen machine guns and those stupid Farlan guys were just crazy enough to dare to descend at high altitude on imperial territory. If they really maintained their altitude, I would have been fucking dead long ago.

And what's going on in this Empire? Why are there so many female officers? Isn't compulsory military service supposed to involve women in the military?
Shaking his head, Ryan didn't say anything and immediately started walking to the front of the team with Brinkman.

Warrant Officer Soma Perris also noticed that Ryan didn't want to mention this matter, so although she still had doubts in her heart, she still waved her hand honestly and caught up with Ryan with a dozen subordinates.

A group of people were walking on the mountain road at night. Apart from Sasha's footsteps, the only sound was the noisy chirping of insects.

But Ryan was still a little unhappy.

The summer heat in early August is scorching, but even the nights in the mountains are barely bearable.

Moreover, the distance to the headquarters is still a bit too far, a full twelve kilometers.

It would be fine during the day, but marching twelve kilometers at night is indeed a problem.

Fortunately, the convoy that set off earlier quickly arrived at the Seventh Army Headquarters in Strasbourg and immediately turned back, otherwise they would have to wait until at least midnight to reach Strasbourg.

Perhaps the war on the front line was not yet tense, or perhaps the Farlans had not yet grasped the intelligence of the Rhine Valley. In short, when Ryan and his men arrived in Strasbourg, the entire city - including the nearly 150-meter-high Gothic church tower - was still brightly lit.

Ryan had never been to Germany, nor to Strasbourg on Earth, so when he first saw the 142-meter-high church tower, he understood why the Seventh Army had set up its headquarters here.

A small external observation tower had been built on the towering tower. Two soldiers wearing black raincoats sat there, observing the distant river valley. On the Rhine River bank, directly east of the church, a pier had been built for airships. A large group of soldiers were busy inflating the airship's balloon, which, judging by the hanging basket below, was likely used for reconnaissance missions.

Coincidentally, after entering Strasbourg, Warrant Officer Soma Perris and her men moved towards the dock.

Ryan thought that they should be responsible for operating these huge balloons, and they had to find an opportunity to trick one or two of them from the staff headquarters in episode 7.

And just when Ryan was still thinking about who to trick a balloon from, an old man wearing a silk suit, with a white beard, and full of energy, who didn't look like a normal person at all, appeared in front of him and Brinkman.

"Is your Excellency Captain Ryan Fleagle?"

His voice sounded full of energy, which immediately reminded Ryan of his meeting with that group of pickled idiots in the imperial capital.

But the man was wearing a suit, not the imperial military uniform, which made Ryan a little confused.

However, he soon discovered that there was a group of people around him hiding in the shadows of buildings and streets, looking at him quietly.

This old man is definitely not an ordinary person.

He thought to himself, but instead of raising his hand to salute, he extended his hand as if greeting an ordinary person.

The man glanced at Ryan's outstretched hand and said, "Not bad, young man, you're quick on the uptake. Much smarter than that jerk from Bavaria."

As he spoke, he symbolically shook Ryan's hand and said, "Captain Flig, the famous hero, you shouldn't have come here in uniform. If the Farlanes knew you were here, they would probably speed up their war preparations tomorrow."

At the same time, a man who was also wearing a suit but wearing a monocle and looked like an accountant or clerk also came over and stood behind the old man.

Ryan smiled awkwardly but rudely. He had already guessed the identity of the old man in front of him.

He said, "If we can disrupt their attack plan, that would be great. But the General is so brazen in Strasbourg, the guards must be very nervous."

"Hahaha, you're funny when you talk."

Josiah von Hellingen laughed heartily and even looked at the man behind him with a heroic tone.

"Isn't this completely different from what you said? I was saying that the guy who dared to break out of the Farlan troops' encirclement and then launch a surprise attack with less than a squad of people couldn't be a coward who couldn't even pass the military academy! When Brian called me just now, he practically begged me to send his people back!"

"Your Excellency is too kind."

Ryan calmly took a half step back and looked at the person in front of him quietly.

This man was General Josiah von Hellingen, commander-in-chief of the Seventh Army.

As the former adjutant of the emperor, he had personally participated in several major battles that laid the foundation for the empire's borders. If the empire had not already had several marshals, he would have surely been given the title of marshal.

However, just when Ryan thought he would have to stand here for a while, General Hellingen put his arm around Ryan's shoulders and pulled him to a beer hall not far from the street with several guards standing at the door.

"I heard from Brian that you wanted to try a new defensive tactic on the front lines in Alsace. Coincidentally, we recently received intelligence that they would complete their troop assembly in a week and launch attacks from Belfort and Nanxi."

"If you need anything, just tell me and I'll help you arrange it!"
