Final Lord
Chapter 368 Six-Eyed Flying Fish
Chapter 368 Six-Eyed Flying Fish
"Good!" Edward felt a surge of pride and strode onto the Rongyun.
"Lord Kate! I've arrived." Edward said, suppressing his excitement, as he walked up to Wang Bufu.
"Take a short rest, we're leaving soon." Wang Bufu seemed very busy and didn't pay any attention to Edward. This made Edward a little disappointed.
He thought Wang Bufu would ask him for advice on things like flight routes, but he didn't.
As the clock struck eight o'clock, the furnace in the center of the Rongyun suddenly emitted a deafening roar.
Blazing white elemental flames erupted from the twelve vents, transforming into spiraling elemental smoke that soared into the sky. The magical runes on both sides of the hull lit up one after another, and streams of eerie blue light pulsed beneath the steel hull like veins.
"Floating Cloud System activated!" The dwarven chief engineer's roar echoed across the deck.
The entire giant ship began to tremble violently, sparks flying from its rivet joints. Before hundreds of horrified eyes in the harbor, this steel behemoth, once ridiculed as an "iron coffin," slowly rose from the water like a cloud!
A pearly, magical halo shimmered between the hull and the sea surface, and the waves formed perfect circular ripples under the influence of an invisible force field.
“Woo—”
The ship's horn blared, tearing through the morning mist, as the massive Rongyun cut through the sea, leaving a hundred-meter-long elemental trail behind it.
Edward gripped the ship's railing tightly, his knuckles turning white from the force. He saw the crowd in the harbor erupting like an anthill bursting open; some had overturned their fish baskets, some merchants were kneeling and drawing divine symbols, and several old sailors were frantically rubbing their eyes.
“This is unbelievable,” Edward murmured to himself, watching the dock recede into the distance. Three years ago, he had witnessed the ship’s disastrous trial run failure.
At the time, deck debris blown off by the furnace explosion was stuck in the wooden piles in the harbor and was ridiculed for weeks.
Wang Bufeng had appeared beside him unnoticed, and the sea breeze made his voice exceptionally clear:
"Welcome to witness the dawn of a new era, Edward." He pointed to the misty Cloud Feather Sea in the distance. "You will witness a new history for Cloud Feather Sea, my commander."
The spray from the bow of the ship floated in the air, and the sea city clouds reflected a rainbow-like halo, shining on Wang Bufu.
At that moment, Edward had only one thought in his mind:
"Ah. Lord Kate, it's glowing!"
If this were the story of the bard, Edward would have fallen in love with Wang Bufu by now, and three chapters later would have led to the forbidden love of the purple rose.
People in Chengdu were overjoyed.
Thankfully, it wasn't.
"How about it, handsome, right? What an incredibly charming man, no wonder he's amassed such astonishing wealth. Woohoo!"
Just as Edward was lost in thought, he suddenly felt someone lightly pat his thigh.
Looking down, he saw a burly, white-bearded dwarf looking up at him. The dwarf wore a pair of exquisitely crafted mechanical goggles, and although his mage robes were stained with oil, they were still clearly made of high-quality fabric.
Edward immediately recognized him as the dwarf who had just discussed the blueprints with Lord Kate—Master Newton, the foremost ship engineer of Vast Cloud City. As the leader of the underground dwarf tribe, he was not only the chief designer of the Melting Cloud, but also renowned for being the "most indebted," reportedly carrying 80% of the entire dwarf tribe's debts.
His debt alone was four times the combined debt of the other two thousand dwarves.
The more you earn, the more you owe.
"Master Newton, you have a close relationship with Lord Kate?" Edward asked, unable to hide his curiosity.
"Friendship?" Newton stroked his beard and chuckled. "We only met yesterday. But can the depth of understanding between people be judged by how long they have known each other?"
There is another thing called a soulmate connection!
The old dwarf's eyes gleamed with amazement as he excitedly exclaimed, "You'd never dream that this wealthy and generous lord is also a master mechanic!"
I thought my Rongyun was perfect, but it turns out there are still flaws. If it weren't for Lady Kate personally guiding me through the improvements last night, this ship would probably have suffered the same fate as the explosion three years ago.
"Lord Kate is also skilled in mechanics?!" Edward was shocked.
He sighed inwardly: Just how many unknown talents does this Kate possess? Could it be that her assessment of my management skills was not unfounded, but rather that she truly has real talent and ability?
“Woo—”
Just then, a long, drawn-out whistle suddenly pierced through the sea of clouds, and the elemental engines of the Rongyun ship roared deafeningly, causing the entire steel behemoth to tremble violently.
The magical patterns on both sides of the ship emitted a dazzling blue light, dyeing the surrounding sea fog an eerie, ghostly blue.
Edward stumbled and grabbed the gunwale, his face turning deathly pale.
Ignoring his arm, which was numb from the shock, he stumbled towards the bridge, shouting, "My lord! Stop!"
His voice was almost hoarse, "Although this is only the outer area of Cloud Feather Sea, countless low-level demons lurk here! Such a commotion will attract them all."
The sea breeze, carrying a salty, fishy smell, rushed towards them, and Edward's cloak fluttered in the wind.
He stared intently at Wang Bufu's back, where the man was leisurely leaning against the railing, his hair fluttering in the wind.
"Commander Edward, there's no need to worry. Is there a possibility…?" Wang Bufu slowly turned around, a dangerous smile playing on his lips, "that I deliberately lured them out?"
"Look over there."
Wang Bufu's long, slender finger suddenly pointed towards the bow of the ship. Edward looked in the direction he was pointing and immediately felt as if he had fallen into an ice cave.
The once calm, mirror-like sea suddenly boiled! Tens of thousands of six-eyed flying fish burst out of the water, their cloud-like wings refracting a rainbow of colors in the sunlight, their six compound eyes gleaming with a greedy, eerie light.
The entire sea area was instantly covered by schools of fish, just like a blizzard sweeping up into the sky!
Six-eyed Flying Fish
Normal level 1
Attributes:……
Special Ability: Mana Absorption: Whenever an enemy unit casts a spell within a 300-meter radius, absorb 1 point of their mana and convert it into 10 points of your own health.
Edward's pupils contracted sharply. As a seasoned mercenary, he knew all too well what this meant: thirty thousand flying fish unleashing their special abilities simultaneously was enough to drain a legendary mage of all his magic power in an instant!
Even more terrifying is that these greedy predators will relentlessly pursue the magical fluctuations... The Rongyun, possessing such powerful magical fluctuations, is also a spellcasting unit!
If the six-eyed flying fish gets close, the Rongyun will likely be drained of all its power and sink to the bottom of the sea.
“It’s over.” Edward’s nails dug deep into his palms. He watched in despair as schools of fish surged toward the Melting Cloud like white waves, the only sound between the sea and sky the suffocating flapping of wings.
The scene before him was so similar to, or even more so than, the moment of destruction he remembered!
At this moment, he felt an unprecedented rage at Lord Kate's recklessness; he was practically leading the entire ship to their deaths!
Just as Edward was staring in despair at the swarm of six-eyed flying fish that blotted out the sky, a steady and powerful voice pierced through the howling wind.
