Chapter 102: The Intelligence of Insects

"What fax?"

"There are so many pictures of spiders, Chris. You are getting more and more beautiful. You are so lucky."

Chris smiled and said, "Doctor, you're so funny even at your age. Thank you. I'm really getting more and more beautiful."

The fax machine beeped.

He looked at the faxed information pictures one by one.

The spider in the can remained motionless. When the doctor tapped it with his fingers, the spider did not respond. The doctor picked up the bottle and shook it. The spider swayed around like a stone inside the bottle as the bottle shook.

The doctor added, "Playing dead won't work in front of me."

After he finished speaking, he started making another phone call, all about spiders. The person he was talking to was a female deputy minister in Moscow with the highest official rank.

The phone was almost out of battery, so the doctor ended the call.

He left the male police dormitory, went to the police station kitchen, and opened the storage cabinet where food was stored.

He caught three cockroaches with a pair of stainless steel medical tweezers.

"Eat, little one, and don't play dead."

After the doctor returned to the dormitory, he stuffed a cockroach into a can.

The white spider was still lying belly up, as if it was really dead.

The doctor said to himself: "Impossible."

He shook the can vigorously, and the spider in the bottle flew in a parabola due to inertia as the bottle shook.

"Still pretending to be dead!"

The doctor poured some boiling water from the kettle and added some cold water, bringing the temperature to around 50 degrees.

He poured hot water into the small hole in the can using a drinking cup. The white spider floated on the water with its belly facing upwards, motionless.

The doctor found a large rice bowl, poured most of the bottle of boiling water into it, poured out the water in the can, and then put the can in.

Where the boiling water and the canning bottle touched, a white spider lay quietly.

The spider jumped from the table to the window, slithered a few times, and ran out of the room.

The doctor rushed out of the room in a hurry.

When he came to the window, there was no trace of the white spider.

Chris was busy processing daily documents when the doctor stumbled into the police officer's office.

"Chris, take me to the hospital."
