Artifact Report
Chapter 84 The police station where Chai Si was contacted
Chapter 84: Chai Si - The Police Station Contacted
"What?" Frye asked dully.
Grassroots police officers at his level may have never heard of a "nest" before today.
Of course, the existence of the nest is not only known to hunters.
In fact, among the big customers of the Hunter family, there are not many who are simply rich - ordinary rich people, if they lack opportunities, don’t even have the channels to hear about the existence of the nest and the hunter - the biggest customers are either as rich as a country or high-ranking officials.
Apart from anything else, the Kai family has already handled several false images that can help people "get re-elected", "win the election", and "get appointed"; the risk of obtaining such false images is not high, but they can be sold at astronomical prices. It is indeed the best business. Unfortunately, they are rare.
Of course, there is no need to worry about customers doing business at a loss.
No matter how much customers spend on artifacts, they can eventually squeeze it back from the country several times or even dozens of times.
"You're lucky. You know, most people might never see anything related to the nest in their entire lives."
Chai Si walked to the door, kicked away the table board blocking the door, and looked back.
"Want to see outside?"
Frye's eyes widened, obviously unable to believe that Chase would actually open the door on his own initiative - the interrogation room had been turned into a simple fortress to resist external intrusion; it was also the only reason why Chase could hold on until now.
But Chase turned the doorknob anyway.
The door of the interrogation room was pushed open, little by little, and turned to the corridor outside, revealing a dark scene.
All the lights in the corridor were turned off at some point.
The old mental hospital building had very poor lighting. Each floor had only a few windows, which were more like hollowed-out holes than windows, not even as big as a human head.
Even though it was not yet dusk, once the lights were turned off, the building was so dark that people had to squint their eyes to barely make out the outlines of things.
Frye narrowed his eyes at this moment.
Chai Si stood at the door, one hand still on it.
The moment he saw the door clearly, he suddenly exhaled the breath that had been pent up in his chest and shouted, "Quick, shoot!"
He didn't finish the sentence because he suddenly cut it off and turned it into a sound coming from his nose: "Hmm... Hmm?"
There were indeed police officers outside the interrogation room; after all, this was the room where the suspect was holding the detective hostage, so of course there would be police officers stationed in the corridor outside.
However, this "police force" is probably different from what anyone imagines.
Chase stared out the hallway, clearly hearing Frye's ragged, rapid breathing behind him. Perhaps from his lifelong smoking, he felt like there was always a lump of phlegm in his chest, rising and falling with each breath. After a long pause, he finally asked through the gurgling sound, "What...what's going on? You're Jenny from General Affairs, right?"
A female police officer was standing in the aisle outside the door, face to face with Chai Si.
She was the only police officer outside the door, unarmed, but clutching a telephone receiver in one hand. The coiled telephone cord dangled from the receiver, revealing a ripped, ripped cord that still swayed slightly in the air.
Perhaps when she was calling for reinforcements, the "Nest Communication Network" happened to cover the entire Central Police Station, making her the first to be affected?
"Did anyone call the police?" The policewoman looked up and asked Chai Si, "I received a call... Who called the police?"
She has a round face, long eyelashes, and brown hair neatly combed back. She is about forty years old and looks very capable.
"It's him," Chase pointed back at Fry.
"What?" Fry was startled, as if he had finally come to his senses. "Hey, Jenny, right? Where are all the others? Why are you the only one here? Hey, take off my handcuffs!"
I don’t know who the last sentence was shouted to.
The policewoman named Jenny seemed to be drawn away by a string and her eyes turned to Frye.
"Okay, I'll be right there," she whispered, looking at Frye. As she passed Chase, the policewoman blinked.
When she blinked, her long upper eyelashes remained fixed in place; from under the upper eyelid, a layer of eyelids quickly blinked down and retracted into the upper eyelid.
Every time the "Nest Communication Network" artifact is opened in Blackmore City, it always presents some different details, just like a creator who doesn't like to repeat himself; no matter how many times you have seen it, you will still be surprised to see something disgusting.
Before leaving, Chase glanced back—"Jenny" was squatting in front of Fry, whispering as if comforting a frightened child, "It's okay, it's okay... The bad guys are gone, it's just you and me now."
Frye's face was covered in sweat, and his eyes were dry with only bright red bloodshot.
He stopped talking and just stared into "Jenny's" eyes, as if that was the most incomprehensible thing in the world.
The video recording device on the wall was always running, with a little red light on.
"I got a call from your ex-wife," the policewoman said, lifting the receiver and motioning Frye to put his ear close to it. "Even though we're divorced, she heard there was a hostage situation at the police station. She's worried about you, too. You should tell her you're safe."
Frye stared blankly at the microphone and the broken telephone wire dangling beneath it.
A faint, hurried female voice came from the microphone, as if calling Fry's name, which made him shudder.
What happened after that, Chai Si didn't know.
He gently closed the door and locked Jenny, who was no longer Jenny, and Fry, who was about to cease to be Fry, behind the door of the interrogation room.
Standing in the dark corridor, Chai Si combed his scattered bangs back and adjusted his shirt cuffs.
The gun was stuck in his waist and he wouldn't be able to use it for a while.
In the darkness of the corridor, there were several rapid and heavy breathing sounds; and the "gurgling" sound as if the trachea was being pinched surrounded Chai Si.
He closed his eyes and let out a long breath.
Walking around the faces embedded in the floor, Chai Si walked to the railing, grabbed the railing with one hand, flipped over and jumped, landing in the center of the first floor hall - a whistle like cheers sounded immediately, echoing in the dark police station building.
"You dance beautifully,"
A young woman turned her chair from a desk, facing where the cigarette had landed, and smiled. Even in the dim light, one could still make out her fair, smooth face and the dense tattoos of text on her neck—a mix of letters, characters, and Chinese characters.
"How's it going? Did we arrive in time?"
Chai Si stretched his shoulders and neck.
The entire Central Police Station was plunged into darkness and silence; but that silence was like a hazy and uneasy sleep that could wake up at any time, and beneath the sleep, there was a faint nightmare.
The mastermind he wanted to catch must have left as soon as he saw the situation was bad; but as he had just told Frye, there must be other insiders in the building - for example, the police chief.
"Find the Director," Shiba ordered, "I need to ask him something. If you come across anyone who hasn't been 'contacted' by the Hive's communication network, gather them in the cells."
Mercury gave him a military salute and said "yes" crisply. He smiled and asked, "And then? You're the boss, you have the final say."
Chai Si looked around.
"No matter what I do, they'll remember my name." He thought about this and chuckled softly. "So...whatever you want to do, just do it. It's up to you."
I'm really dying. I'm getting late, and my heart disease isn't getting any better. Instead, it's getting worse...
