Chapter 742 Chasing
Yan Lie glanced at the female beside him, whose eyes were curved in a smile. The sour bubbles that had been rising because of the other males' advances dissipated a lot in her clear, smiling gaze.
He adjusted his posture accordingly, making her more comfortable holding him, while using his tall frame to shield her from all male gazes.
The two walked hand in hand toward the stone house, their silhouettes appearing particularly intimate in the early spring sunshine.
"I can pick the fruit he gave you and give it to you too."
"Okay, then you pick them for me. The ones you pick will definitely be sweeter than the ones the other males pick." Bai Wanwan chuckled, her voice full of affection and indulgence.
This straightforward reassurance was like a spoonful of warm honey.
He couldn't help but smile and hugged the female in his arms even tighter.
As dusk began to quietly paint the sky, it lengthened their shadows...
***
Bai Wanwan was in a bad mood, but Yan Lie tried his best to cheer her up, clumsily imitating small animals and telling her not-so-funny stories he had heard while hunting...
But with his efforts, the frustration that had been weighing on Bai Wanwan's heart gradually dissipated.
However, along with my improved mood, the growing sense of life within me also became clearer.
The slight upturn of her palms, gentle yet firm, constantly reminded her of an inescapable responsibility.
These kids are innocent.
As for Ember Shadow, Bai Wanwan's fingertips unconsciously traced the cold edge of the system panel, her gaze falling on the dark blue icon.
Perhaps, sending him away would be better for everyone.
She and the other beastmen were more than capable of raising these cubs.
On this day, it was Yin Ze's turn to accompany her. The spring sky was clear and high. On a whim, Bai Wanwan asked Yin Ze to take her and Shi Hua's babies flying in the air.
The enormous divine bird lowered its body obediently, its iridescent feathers shimmering in the sunlight, causing the two cubs of the stone flower to squeal with excitement.
The wind whistled past my ears, sweeping across the rolling forests and the rooftops of the villages, while the children's clear laughter filled the clouds.
Bai Wanwan hugged the small body in front of her tightly, savoring this simple joy and temporarily casting aside her worries.
After playing for half a day, when they returned to the ground, the little ones were still reluctant to leave and snuggled in her arms. Bai Wanwan herself felt tired, but her mood was relaxed.
"I'll take you flying again next time, okay?" She gently pinched the boy's cheek, and received a loud reply.
Yin Ze returned to human form, promptly reached out and embraced her waist, then bid farewell to Shi Hua, who had brought back the cub.
Back at the stone house where they were staying, Yin Ze helped her sit down on a flat stone at the door.
"Are you thirsty? I'll get you some water."
Bathed in the warm sunlight, Bai Wanwan nodded at him with a slight smile.
After Yin Ze turned and went inside, the surroundings became quiet.
Bai Wanwan gazed at the bustling reconstruction scene in the distant tribe, but her thoughts involuntarily drifted back to that unresolved issue.
After thinking for a moment, she brought up the system shop, her fingertip swiping aimlessly across the screen, finally stopping at the icon for the [Time-Space Shuttle].
A deep blue light shone in her eyes, carrying a sense of resolute determination.
She took a deep breath, her fingertip hovering over the icon, determined to find an opportunity to use it on Ember Shadow when she got back.
Just then, she seemed to sense an orc approaching from the corner of her eye, and she subconsciously looked up.
Two tall figures appeared in her line of sight without warning, walking towards the stone house. When she saw that the people were Zhu Xiu and Jin Ying beside him, her heart skipped a beat, and her fingers trembled involuntarily. Her fingertips seemed to brush against a corner of the panel, but at that moment, she was completely focused on the two people who had suddenly appeared and did not notice.
"Wanwan." Yin Ze came out carrying water. Seeing that her expression was strange, he followed her gaze and was slightly taken aback. He then took her arm and helped her stand up.
Zhu Xiu and Jin Ying quickly approached.
Zhu Xiu's gaze immediately locked onto Bai Wanwan, taking in her subtle, chaotic emotions, but he didn't ask anything, only looking at her with deep eyes.
The same was true of Jin Ying; her eyes seemed to hold a thousand unspoken words.
Bai Wanwan forced herself to remain calm, ignoring the intensely noticeable gaze, and simply smiled at Zhu Xiu, her tone carrying just the right amount of surprise and intimacy: "Why are you here?"
She deliberately ignored Jin Ying beside her, as if she hadn't noticed that there was another person there.
Zhu Xiu stepped forward and, quite naturally, took her from Yin Zexu's arms and pulled her into his embrace.
"If I hadn't come, how long did you plan to stay outside?" His voice was deep and steady, yet it revealed a strong sense of possessiveness and worry. "I'll be watching you, so don't worry."
Watching the two of them being so intimate in front of him, oblivious to everyone else, and with Bai Wanwan never even glancing at him out of the corner of her eye, Jin Ying's hand, hanging at his side, tightened almost imperceptibly, his knuckles turning slightly white.
Deep within those dark gray eyes, a heavy pain surged forth like a tide, yet he forcefully suppressed it, leaving only a murky ripple.
"Alright, alright, you watch, you watch." Bai Wanwan leaned against Zhu Xiu's firm chest, tilted her head back and winked at him playfully, her tone sweet and innocent, with a hint of spoiled pride.
Zhu Xiu's cold, hard lips curved into an almost imperceptible, extremely subtle arc.
He knew the little female was doing it on purpose, and that he liked her dependence on him like this.
Bai Wanwan grasped his hand that was wrapped around her waist and gently shook it: "Let's go, let's go inside and rest for a bit. You must be tired from traveling all this way."
As she spoke, she took Zhu Xiu's arm and turned to walk into the house. From beginning to end, she did not give Jin Ying a single glance or a greeting, as if he were just an insignificant background figure.
All of this, observed by Yin Ze, aroused a faint sense of doubt in his heart.
Wanwan was always very kind to the beastmen she approved of, gentle and considerate. Even towards someone as aloof as Zhuxiu, she never hesitated to smile and be affectionate.
Why is there such a strong aversion to Ember Shadow, to the point of ignoring him completely?
What exactly happened between them?
He glanced at Jinying subconsciously, but saw pain and despair on the male's face.
Just then, Yan Lie emerged from the room, seemingly having just finished packing his things.
Upon seeing Zhu Xiu and Jin Ying, his smile wasn't as bright.
He originally thought that since Wanwan hadn't brought many males on this trip, he would have plenty of time to spend with her.
Unexpectedly, they couldn't stay there for more than a few days.
"We've only been gone a few days, and you can't even wait?"
Zhu Xiu glanced at him but didn't say anything.
Yan Lie curled his lip; he didn't dare to be too presumptuous in front of Zhu Xiu.
After a few brief pleasantries, the atmosphere became slightly tense, but the surface remained relatively peaceful as they walked into the house together.
Just as they sat down at the simple wooden table in the room and were talking, Jin Yi returned after finishing his clan affairs.
He was taken aback when he saw Zhu Xiu and Jin Ying.
Then he asked, "Is the Tiger Clan alright? Why did you all come here?"
