Chapter 758 It's Not Her Fault
Yan Lie belatedly sensed that something was wrong, and a sense of unease crept into his heart.

"Wanwan... what happened?" he asked hesitantly.

"Yes, something did happen. I'll tell you later. Now, take me to find Ember Shadow."

Yan Lie always listened to her the most; he would do anything she asked as long as she liked him.

Without another word, he took a step back and, with a deep roar, transformed into a gigantic, powerful, and majestic leopard.

His snow-white fur shimmered like pearls in the setting sun. He lowered his body, gesturing for Bai Wanwan to come up.

Without hesitation, Bai Wanwan climbed onto his broad, sturdy back and tightly gripped the thick, warm hair on the back of his neck with both hands.

Without further delay, Yan Lie exerted his strength in all four limbs and shot out like an arrow, transforming into a streak of light as he sped towards the western mountains outside the tribe. His speed was so great that he left only a blur and a cloud of dust in the air.

The wind whistled in her ears, but it couldn't dispel the anxiety in Bai Wanwan's heart.

Her eyes were fixed intently ahead, as if trying to pierce through the layers of mountains and forests to see the person directly.

Finally, after passing a mountain ridge, a relatively open valley came into view below.

The setting sun cast a golden-red glow over the valley, and several campfires were lit as the hunting party's warriors processed and butchered their day's catch—a few enormous, rhinoceros-like prey.

The air was filled with the faint smell of blood and the aroma of roasted meat.

A little further away, on a rock near the stream, a tall, silent figure stood alone, seemingly gazing at the water or perhaps lost in thought.

The dim light illuminated his handsome profile; it was indeed Ember Shadow.

Almost the instant Yan Lie landed, Jin Ying seemed to sense something and slowly turned his head.

When his gaze swept past the busy tribesmen and the leaping campfire, precisely capturing the petite figure that slid off the snow leopard's back and staggered to her feet, his gray pupils suddenly contracted, and his entire aura underwent a subtle change.

"Ember Shadow..."

Bai Wanwan's voice carried an emotion completely different from before.

Almost instantly, a deep, resonant feeling, as if a long-awaited echo had finally appeared in Jin Ying's eyes.

He neither shouted loudly nor rushed over.

He slowly, yet with extraordinary determination, began to walk towards Bai Wanwan.

The setting sun cast a long shadow behind him, and every step he took seemed to be on the string of time, steady and powerful.

Yan Lie transformed back into human form and stood beside Bai Wanwan. He stretched his shoulders, which were slightly sore from running at high speed, and tried to break the strangely heavy atmosphere with his usual cheerful tone. He gestured with his chin toward Jin Ying and laughed, "Why did you come all this way to hunt? We've been looking for you for ages..."

Before he could finish speaking, his voice caught in his throat.

Because the female beside her had already shot off like an arrow released from a bow, or like a fledgling swallow that had finally found its way home, with a resolute yet fragile strength, she suddenly rushed out.

Her skirt traced an arc in the air as she almost recklessly plunged into the arms of Jin Ying (Fu Jinshen), who was approaching.

The immense impact caused Fu Jinshen to sway slightly, but he immediately caught her steadily, his arms tightening like the strongest fortress, instantly enveloping her completely and pressing her firmly against his chest.

The force was so great that it seemed to want to knead her into its own bones and blood, or as if it was confirming whether the warm, trembling body in its arms was real.

He lowered his head, burying his face in her hair, which carried a familiar sweet scent. He closed his eyes, and when he opened them again, his eyes were already glistening with an uncontrollable moisture. Her intense and undisguised reaction had almost given him the answer.

She got it.

She knew who he was, and she also knew about the buried past.

He kissed the top of her head very gently, with boundless tenderness, his voice low and husky, almost a whisper, yet clearly reaching her ears: "Do you understand?"

These three simple words contain so much.

Bai Wanwan trembled slightly in his arms. She didn't look up, but buried her face deeper into the man's chest and responded with a muffled, nasal sound: "Mmm."

This single word, heavy as a ton, shattered the ice and misunderstanding that had stood between them for years.

Fu Jinshen (Jinying)'s lips curled upwards in an extremely subtle yet remarkably genuine arc.

He gently stroked her back, as if soothing a frightened little animal, his voice so tender it could melt water: "Those things are all in the past, Wanwan. Let's look forward."

He paused, then hugged her tighter. "Seeing that you're still alive, and can stand in front of me so...happily, makes me very happy, really."

Happy?
Bai Wanwan's body suddenly stiffened.

She lifted her head slightly from his embrace, looking up at him with red-rimmed eyes, "Are you... really happy?"

She asked cautiously, her voice filled with self-doubt and guilt.

She hated him for so long, distanced herself from him, rejected him, and even planned to send him away.

In the end, it wasn't him who was wrong, it was her.

She "betrayed" their relationship; she had a new partner, a new life, and even... many children with other males in the past few years.

Putting herself in Fu Jinshen's shoes, she would absolutely not be able to accept this, and might even break down.

But he said that seeing her happy made him happy?
During this time, he endured her coldness and aloofness. She did see the occasional sadness in his eyes, but she chose to ignore it.

On the contrary, she, like a blind fool, hurt him time and time again.

Just thinking about what she had done before made her feel a suffocating heart attack.

"Yes, I'm really happy." Fu Jinshen looked into her eyes and nodded earnestly. His eyes appeared particularly deep and gentle in the twilight, without a trace of falsehood or reluctance.

“At the time, I thought that as long as I waited for a while, dealt with those messy things, and told you the truth, you would come back to me.”

"But I never expected that what I would receive was the devastating news that you were no longer here."

At this point, his voice choked almost imperceptibly.

Even now, recalling the icy chill that swept through his body in an instant, the sharp pain that left his mind blank, and the engulfing sense of bewilderment and despair that followed, still makes his heart tighten and his breathing slightly labored.

He didn't lie to her. When he learned that she was still alive and saw her standing vividly in front of him again, the first thing that welled up in his heart was overwhelming relief and gratitude.

I am grateful to God for giving me this opportunity, even if it's just to watch her life from afar.
