Chapter 800 Account
The countdown to teleportation flowed silently through my mind, like fine sand falling in an hourglass.
In the living room, the males sat or stood, seemingly calm, but in reality, their bodies were all adjusted to the best state to deal with any unexpected situation.
Fu Jinshen suddenly turned around and walked towards the study.
Bai Wanwan paused for a moment, then turned around and followed.
Pushing open the door to the study, I found it so clean it was almost empty.
The bookshelves that were once filled with documents and professional books now only have a few unrelated books left. The large desk is completely empty, and even his usual fountain pen and notebook have disappeared.
Bai Wanwan's guilty conscience belatedly crept over her.
The more thoroughly she tried to erase all traces of him back then, the more uncomfortable she felt now.
She stood in the doorway, her voice softer than usual: "What are you looking for? Maybe... you can't find it."
He threw it all away at the time, but he didn't do anything wrong, so it was indeed a bit excessive.
Fu Jinshen stood in front of the empty desk, his gaze sweeping across the empty room. Hearing her guilty words, he turned to look at her, his eyes showing no blame, only gentle understanding.
He walked over, gently took her hand, and soothingly rubbed his fingertips against her palm. "Nothing else is needed, just a piece of paper and a pen will do."
"Paper and pen?" Bai Wanwan was taken aback for a moment, then walked to the bottom drawer of the bookcase next to her. She remembered that there seemed to be some unused notebooks and pens there.
As she rummaged through the lattice, she couldn't help but ask curiously, "What do you need paper and pen for? We're leaving soon."
Fu Jinshen followed behind her, his eyes softening as he watched her slender back bend slightly. "I had to tell Li Xiang," he explained, his voice steady. "If it weren't for his persistence and never giving up, I wouldn't have had the chance... to embrace you again with my own body."
He paused, his tone filled with genuine gratitude, "Both emotionally and logically, I should say goodbye to him."
Bai Wanwan found paper and pen, turned around and handed them to him, and nodded solemnly upon hearing this: "We should thank him properly. As the boss, you should give him a big bonus!"
She thought of Li Xiang, standing in the life support pod, looking exhausted. If she hadn't returned in such a rush and hadn't lacked means of communication, she should have informed Li Xiang as well.
"Hmm." Fu Jinshen took the paper and pen, his fingertips brushing across the smooth paper, having already made up his mind.
The bonus is a must, but he would prefer to have a more tangible form of security.
Since we are going to the Beast World with Wanwan, we must settle things here and make proper arrangements.
He wanted to leave those well-located properties to Li Xiang as a way of expressing his gratitude, and also as a solemn handover of his past life.
He sat down behind the large but empty desk, his back straight, as if he had returned to the days when he was strategizing and planning.
This time, however, he did not write a business plan or investment proposal, but rather an account of the past, a trust in his friends, and a gentle farewell to a world.
The pen tip glides across the paper, making a soft, steady, and powerful rustling sound.
Bai Wanwan looked at his focused profile, the sunlight streaming through the window casting a pale gold hue on him.
She didn't disturb him further, quietly slipped out, and gently closed the study door, leaving him with that tranquil space.
Back in the living room, the males sat or stood, but their breathing was less tense than before.
Her gaze swept across the room and she suddenly realized that one person was missing.
Chief Rong was resting with his eyes closed, Jin Ying was wiping the table, Yan Lie and Hua Han were whispering to each other, and Xin Feng was checking his small bag... but Jiao Yin was nowhere to be seen.
She looked up and searched the room, finally spotting that solitary, aloof figure outside the balcony through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Jiaoyin stood there alone, her back to the living room, facing the city's dazzling yet unfamiliar night view. The lights of the skyscrapers resembled an inverted galaxy, the traffic flow transformed into winding ribbons of light, and neon lights flickered in the distance, outlining the bustling yet alienated contours of this human world.
The night breeze ruffled his hair, and his figure appeared particularly lonely in the dim night.
Bai Wanwan's heart stirred slightly, and she walked towards him.
Pushing open the glass door and stepping onto the balcony, the night breeze rushes towards me.
"What are you looking at?" She walked to his side and stopped, following his gaze to see an endless sea of dazzling lights.
Upon hearing the sound, Jiaoyin immediately turned around.
Upon seeing Bai Wanwan, his eyes, which were always as calm as a cold pool, seemed to be instantly filled with moonlight, suddenly brightening and clearly reflecting her figure.
He knew his place perfectly well.
He was a latecomer who was able to stay only by chance. In Wanwan's heart, he may never be as important as the chieftains and the others, let alone Fu Jinshen, who had just returned from a life-or-death experience.
He himself chose to remain silent and protect her, choosing to stay on the edge where her light shone.
At that moment, all the other males were inside the house, but Wanwan came to his side alone.
This special treatment filled him with a warm, burning feeling, bringing him a secret joy and satisfaction.
“This is the world where you lived and grew up, Wanwan,” he said, turning his gaze back to the distance. “I don’t know if I’ll ever have the chance to come back again. I want to see more and remember more.”
He wanted to remember this wondrous yet fragile world that had given birth to her.
Bai Wanwan's heart softened.
She could hear the deep yet restrained affection in his calm tone, as well as his curiosity and appreciation for her past.
She reached out and took his slightly cool fingers in her hand.
“You can come whenever you want in the future,” she said, shaking their clasped hands with a light and confident tone. “As long as you have enough points, the portal can be opened. I can also take you to see the place where I lived when I was a child. Although it may have changed... there will still be some traces.”
On Jiao Yin's handsome and aloof face, a rare and pure smile of joy appeared, like spring water breaking through the ice, instantly brightening his features.
"Really?" he asked, a hint of barely perceptible anticipation in his voice.
"Yes, of course." Bai Wanwan nodded with a smile, then gently pulled him back. "But now, it's almost time, let's go back inside. It's windy outside."
The two returned to the warm indoor space, where several males looked up at them.
"Wanwan, is it almost time?" Hua Han asked.
"Okay, almost there. I'll go call Jinshen."
The males have already put the clothes they bought into the closet, but all the toys they bought for the kittens are piled up in the living room.
The system in my mind gave a clear notification, and the countdown entered its final few minutes.
After giving her instructions, Bai Wanwan turned and walked towards the study.
Almost simultaneously, the study door was pushed open.
"Jinshen, time is almost up." Bai Wanwan stopped and urged him softly.
