Chapter 217 "Yuan Yuan, she's a thief!"

Hearing Nini's words, Jiang Yuan paused for a few seconds, then frowned and asked in a low voice, "What thief? Is he still hiding in the house?"

“No.” Nini shook her fluffy head. “The thief hasn’t come yet.”

Jiang Yuan blinked, feeling puzzled. "Could it be that this thief comes every day?"

Nini said, "Sometimes I come every day, sometimes every other day!"

Jiang Yuan: "Didn't Grandma and Aunt Zhou notice?"

Nini: "No."

Just as Jiang Yuan was about to ask it to tell her more, Old Mrs. Fu brought a plate of fruit to her.

"Xiao Yuan, have some fruit."

"Okay, thank you, Grandma Fu."

Grandma Fu looked at her, her aged eyes full of love. "Xiao Yuan, it's quite a coincidence. A few days ago, I went to the old house and sorted through some photos of a friend when she was young. I found that you look just like her."

Jiang Yuan raised her eyebrows slightly and smiled, "Is that so? That is indeed a coincidence."

"I'll go get it and show it to you." Old Mrs. Fu got up and went into the bedroom.

As soon as she left, Jiang Yuan lowered her eyes and asked Nini, "What's the situation with that thief?"

Nini looked up and met her gaze. "That thief seems to be a relative of Aunt Zhou. She came to visit Aunt Zhou and chatted with Grandma, making Grandma very happy. Grandma then told her to come often when she had time."

Jiang Yuan: "And then?"

Nini: "Then she would keep coming, and every time she came she would steal Grandma's shiny things, but Grandma and Aunt Zhou didn't notice."

Only it discovered it, but neither Grandma nor Aunt Zhou could understand what it was saying.

It gets really anxious every time it sees that thief coming.

"Xiao Yuan, take a look." Grandma Fu returned to the living room and handed her a yellowed old photograph. "Doesn't it look like you?"

Jiang Yuan took the photo and looked at it, a hint of surprise flashing in her eyes, "Is this Grandma Fu your friend?"

"Yes," Grandma Fu said with a sigh, "It's a pity she's no longer here."

"What a pity." Jiang Yuan stared intently at the person in the photo. "I thought I would have a chance to meet him and see what I would look like when I'm old."

She looked at the photo for a while longer before handing it back.

Grandma Fu took the photo, looked at Jiang Yuan's delicate face, and smiled, "I also have photos of her from behind. Do you want to see them?"

Seeing her so excited, Jiang Yuan nodded: "Okay."

Just as Mrs. Fu was looking for the photos, the doorbell rang suddenly.

“Someone’s here,” said Mrs. Fu. “I’ll go open the door.”

"I'll go." Jiang Yuan picked up Nini and got up to walk over.

She opened the door and saw a fashionable young girl standing outside, her false eyelashes painted like fans, curled and thick.

"Who are you?" the young girl asked.

Jiang Yuan didn't speak, but heard Nini in her arms call out.

"Yuan Yuan, she's a thief!"

Jiang Yuan narrowed her beautiful eyes slightly as she sized up the other person.

The young girl met her gaze, frowned, and said, "I'm talking to you, didn't you hear me?"

"Is that Rongrong?" Old Mrs. Fu walked over.

Zhou Rongrong immediately called out, "Grandma, I've come to see you. I brought you the dumplings I made today."

Jiang Yuan turned around and carried Nini back to the living room.

Nini stirred in her arms and meowed excitedly, "Yuanyuan, you must tell Grandma that Rongrong is a thief! She stole so many things from Grandma!"

"I will," Jiang Yuan said soothingly, patting its head. Zhou Rongrong followed Grandma Fu into the house, her gaze falling on Jiang Yuan's retreating figure. She lowered her voice and asked, "Grandma, who is that lady?"

Grandma Fu smiled and said, "She's my friend."

"Your friend is so young!" Zhou Rongrong exclaimed in surprise.

"Yes," said Grandma Fu, inviting her to sit down.

Zhou Rongrong placed the dumplings on the coffee table and sat down opposite Jiang Yuan, staring at her.

Grandma Fu returned to Jiang Yuan's side and said with a smile, "Yuan, Rongrong is Xiao Zhou's cousin. She's been coming to keep us company a lot lately."

"So that's how it is." Jiang Yuan smiled faintly.

"Grandma, is Auntie home?" Zhou Rongrong asked.

Grandma Fu pointed towards the kitchen, "She's preparing dinner."

"So fast!" Zhou Rongrong quickly stood up. "I brought the dumplings over so early because I was worried you would be preparing dinner. I'll go tell Auntie not to bother and that we'll have dumplings for dinner."

"Rongrong, it's alright." Grandma Fu called out to her, "The dumplings can be put in the refrigerator. I'll invite Xiaoyuan over for dinner tonight."

Zhou Rongrong stopped in her tracks. "Grandma, I'll freeze the dumplings."

Grandma Fu nodded: "Okay, thank you for your hard work."

Jiang Yuan glanced at Zhou Rongrong's back, then looked at Old Madam Fu's face and said softly, "Grandma, does Aunt Zhou's niece often come to visit you?"

“I’ve been coming over quite often lately,” said Mrs. Fu. “It keeps the house lively.”

As I get older, I enjoy being around people.

Jiang Yuan smiled and said, "After we finish eating, I'll accompany you downstairs for a walk."

"Okay!" Grandma Fu happily agreed.

Zhou Rongrong came out of the kitchen and said to Grandma Fu, "Grandma, you two can chat slowly. I'll go mop the floor."

"Rongrong, don't bother," said Grandma Fu helplessly. "Come and sit down. The housekeeping service will come to clean on time."

Zhou Rongrong tied her hair up, rolled up her sleeves, and said with a smile, "Grandma, housekeepers definitely can't do as clean a job as I do."

Grandma Fu sighed, "This child is so capable. Every time she comes over, she cleans the whole house spotless. If we don't let her do anything, she gets upset and says she can't stand being idle."

Jiang Yuan chuckled to herself upon hearing this.

If we don't let her do it, how will she take the opportunity to steal things?
Jiang Yuan rubbed Nini's head and whispered, "Go and see what she took and where she put it."

"Understood!" Nini replied, then lightly leaped from her arms and landed steadily on the ground.

After Zhou Rongrong finished cleaning, Aunt Zhou also prepared the meal.

"Grandma, Aunt, I've mopped the floor clean. You have guests, so I won't disturb you any longer." Zhou Rongrong picked up her bag and prepared to leave.

Seeing this, Grandma Fu stood up and asked her to stay, "Rongrong, stay and have dinner with us."

Jiang Yuan smiled and said, "Yes, let's eat together."

Aunt Zhou didn't say anything, after all, there were guests tonight.

Zhou Rongrong hesitated for a few seconds, then smiled and said, "Then I won't be polite."

After dinner, Jiang Yuan accompanied Grandma Fu downstairs for a walk, while Zhou Rongrong helped Aunt Zhou clear the table.

The bright moonlight poured down on the earth like a silver veil, a gentle breeze brought a touch of coolness, and the green leaves on the branches swayed gently in the wind.

Jiang Yuan thought of what Nini had just said, pursed her lips, and slowly asked, "Grandma Fu, do you know anything about Zhou Rongrong?"

“Rongrong, she’s a child who has suffered a lot. She told me that her family was very poor, and she has two younger brothers. Her parents are very biased.” Grandma Fu’s tone was tinged with heartache. “She has had such a hard life.”

Upon hearing this, Jiang Yuan said calmly, "But that's no excuse for her to steal."
