Chapter 17 The Truth
Hei Hu took Han Hui around for more than half an hour and finally entered a bungalow, which was about 300 meters away from the river.

To facilitate transportation, Hei Hu and his brothers dug a tunnel here, specifically to transport some valuable supplies. He also knew that Han Hui was from Zhangshu Village and dared to fight the Japanese with real weapons. He admired her, otherwise he would not have been so reckless to bring her here.

After passing through the tunnel, they reached a steep slope, below which was a river. At the exit, Han Hui said in a very low voice, "Brother Hu, that's all. Thank you for this time."

Although Hei Hu took the risk, he also wanted to get sulfanilamide: "Little brother, let's talk about it after the storm has passed."

He knew Han Hui was a girl the first time he saw her, but in this damn world, it was safer to dress up as a man when going out.

Han Hui nodded, looked at Hei Hu and said, "Brother Hu, we are all in the middle of this war, and no one can escape it alone."

Hei Hu was stunned.

Just like the alien beasts and plants in the stars, if we don’t eliminate them, humanity will perish. It is the same with her brother who joined the army after graduating from the military academy because it is his responsibility and obligation.
There were many patrol boats on the river. After coming out of the tunnel, Han Hui lay on the ground and slowly moved to the edge of the steep slope.

Han Hui put the backpack into the space, slid down the steep slope and prepared to dive into the river. At this moment, lightning and thunder suddenly flashed, and soon it began to rain heavily.

On a dark, windy night, the time for murder and arson was here. Han Hui knew gasoline was flammable and difficult to extinguish, so she had planned to burn down the Japanese granary and the government that night. Unfortunately, the weather forced her to abandon the plan. Chen Zhong had been dealt with, Han Yongfeng was about to be executed, and Zhao Meilian and her son, without protection, would surely face hardship in these troubled times. With all her enemies dealt with, it was time to leave.

The downpour came and went quickly, but it was enough time for Han Hui to swim out of the county. After landing, she went into her space to change clothes and hurried back to Shiling Town as fast as she could.

As soon as she got home, Han Hui took out her household registration: "Mom, with this, we can leave tomorrow."

If she was stopped and checked by the Japanese on the road, or if she wanted to stay in the provincial capital or buy tickets, she would need her household registration. Otherwise, she wouldn't have to spend money to buy a crappy household registration.

Huang Shufen's face was full of worry: "Why are you back so late?"

Her daughter had gone to the county town early that morning to get her household registration. Given her speed, she should have been back by the afternoon at the latest, but she still hadn't seen her by nightfall. She was worried that Han Hui might be in danger, but she didn't dare ask Xiaocao to find out for fear of attracting attention.

Han Hui explained, "After I got my household registration, I went to the grocery store to buy some things for the trip. Before I finished, I heard people shouting, 'Slay!' Then the streets were full of devils, and the city gates were closed, preventing anyone from leaving. I stayed with Doctor Zhong for the entire afternoon, and then I sneaked out of the county after dark."

"It's too dangerous. You should come back tomorrow."

Han Hui shook her head and said, "All the Japanese and Japanese soldiers in the county were mobilized, searching every house. I heard they killed many people."

Without waiting for Huang Shufen to continue asking, she touched her stomach and said, "Mom, I'm hungry. Please cook me a bowl of noodles and a few more eggs!"

Hearing that her daughter was hungry, Huang Shufen didn't bother to ask and quickly went to the kitchen to light a fire and cook noodles, while Han Hui fetched water to wash her hair and take a bath.

When the noodles were served, Han Hui started eating them in big mouthfuls.

Seeing her wolfing down the food, Huang Shufen said distressedly, "Slow down, there's still half a basin left!"

She knew Han Hui's appetite, but it was already past eleven o'clock, and she should go to bed after eating, so it was not advisable to eat too much.

After finishing half a bowl of noodles, Han Hui suddenly felt refreshed: "Mom, are everything ready? If so, we can leave tomorrow."

Huang Shufen disagreed: "You've been worried and frightened all day. You need to get a good rest tonight. It takes ten days to get from here to the provincial capital. You need to be well rested. We'll leave the day after tomorrow."

"One day wouldn't be a big deal," Han Hui agreed. She'd been too afraid to take a nap at Hei Hu's house, but now she was back home, she wasn't afraid anymore. But after finishing her meditation and lying down to sleep, she realized something was wrong. She stood up, grabbed a stick as thick as an adult's arm, and stood at the door.

Soon two men climbed up the wall and jumped down into the yard. They divided the work, each man prying open one room.

Han Hui opened the door and hit the thief outside with a stick, causing him to scream and fall to the ground. Another thief, seeing that things were not going well, tried to run, but Han Hui hit him with the stick and broke his leg.

Huang Shufen and Xiaocao were awakened by the miserable screams, lit the kerosene lamp and walked out. Seeing the two men lying on the ground, their faces turned pale.

Han Hui stepped on the head of the thief who broke his leg and asked coldly, "Tell me, what are you doing in our house so late at night?"

The two thieves' howling was so loud that if they were in Zhangshu Village, villagers would have come knocking on the door to inquire about them. But here, no one came to ask. This shows that bandits and thieves are rampant in Shiling Town, and residents are afraid to show their faces for fear of getting into trouble.

The thief was afraid that she would crush his head with one foot, so he didn't dare to hide it: "Miss, please spare my life. Your maid bought meat and rice and flour today. My brothers and I are very short of money recently, so we wanted to get some money to spend."

Xiao Cao said hurriedly, "Miss, he's talking nonsense. I only bought five catties of rice and five catties of noodles, and only two catties of meat."

Afraid that the large purchase would attract attention, Han Hui told Xiaocao to buy only enough rice and flour for two days, and buy vegetables for the day.

Han Hui stepped hard and said, "Tell the truth."

The man with the broken leg trembled and said, "I, I am telling the truth."

They had come to scout the area during the day and confirmed that there was only a woman with bound feet and a maidservant. The maidservant was strong and had some strength, but she was easy to deal with with brute force. They never expected that there was such a cruel guy hiding in the yard. If they had known, they would not have dared to come even if they had ten times the courage!

In order to make Han Hui believe, he even swore a solemn oath.

Han Hui kicked him in the heart, and the man with the broken leg vomited blood and fainted.

The man with a broken waist thought he was dead and was so scared that he peed his pants.

Huang Shufen shuddered at the sight. She knew Han Hui had become very skilled in martial arts and often ate the prey she hunted, but this was the first time she had seen her kill someone.

Han Hui stepped on the man with the broken waist and applied a little force, causing him to howl miserably: "Speak or not?"

The man with a broken waist was in so much pain that he felt like dying. He said intermittently, "Yes, the old lady next door said that the new woman who moved in is beautiful and charming. Captain Chen likes beautiful and charming women. We, we want to join the security team..."

Han Hui understood that they were planning to kidnap Huang Shufen and hand her over to Chen Zhong, so that they could join the security team. "Are you talking about Chen Zhong?"

"Yes, yes, yes, it's Captain Chen."

The man with a broken waist nodded with difficulty.

Han Hui now understood that the devils who had come through the back door that day had intended to kidnap Huang Shufen and bring her back to the county town to present her to Chen Zhong. Thinking back to what the second devil had said that day, it seemed that this lustful devil had set his sights on her mother, which was why he had done that.

Huang Shufen had barely left her house since moving to the countryside, and she hadn't expected Chen to keep watching her. She regretted not having blown the bastard up to death, only cutting him into pieces would have given her relief.
