Chapter 18 Tiger-Skin Eggs
Xu Qing dreamed that the savory tofu pudding was missing some dried radish; adding it would make the texture and flavor even better.

So she washed the radishes, cut them into strips, and then put them in the sun to dry. This process is not something that can be done overnight; the drying time and environment will affect the taste of the dried radishes.

After Xu Qingmeng finished doing all that, her second brother Xu had also brought a lot of eggs with him when he delivered firewood that day. Suddenly, she wanted to eat tiger-skin eggs, so she washed them clean and then threw them into a pot to boil.
After the eggs are cooked, take them out and soak them in cold water. Once they have cooled, peel off the shells and set them aside to drain.

Pour oil into a pan and heat it up. Then, add the peeled eggs and fry them until they turn golden brown and wrinkled.

Add soy sauce and sugar. It would be even better if you had chili peppers, but unfortunately, you can't. Add an appropriate amount of water and cook until the broth thickens. Soaking it for a few hours will make it taste even better.

However, this didn't affect anything. Xu Qingmeng looked at the tiger-skin eggs she had made and nodded in satisfaction.
These golden-yellow eggs, with their wrinkled skin resembling tiger stripes, are so appetizing that just looking at them makes one's mouth water.

She carefully picked one up and took a bite. Instantly, her mouth was filled with fragrance, a perfect balance of sweet and salty, leaving a lingering aftertaste.

The two little ones ran out to play after lunch, and now they came back tired from playing. They smelled a delicious aroma, their eyes lit up, and they ran to the kitchen.

"Sister-in-law, I'm back!"

Xu Qingmeng knew it was Yun Sheng as soon as she heard the loud voice. She swallowed the egg in her mouth and said, "Perfect, the tiger-skin eggs are ready. Go wash your hands."

Yun Sheng didn't go; instead, she ran over to introduce her friends to Xu Qingmeng.

"Sister-in-law, this is Rongrong, she's new here."

Xu Qingmeng glanced at the scene and saw a delicate little doll standing behind Yun Sheng. The doll looked a bit younger than Yun Sheng and Yun Mo, with a somewhat timid expression, but its big eyes were very lively.

Xu Qingmeng smiled slightly, "Rongrong, is it? Go wash your hands with Sister Yunsheng, and then come and eat the eggs."

Seeing Xu Qingmeng's smile, Xiao Rongrong seemed to relax a bit. She politely called out in a low voice, "Sister-in-law," and then went to wash her hands with Yun Sheng.

Just then, Madam He walked in and said, "This child looks like he comes from a wealthy family. He looks unfamiliar. I wonder where Yun Sheng brought him back from."

Soon, the three little ones washed their hands and stood in a row at the kitchen door.

The tiger-skin eggs have a golden-yellow shell. Because there was some soup left on them, Xu Qingmeng placed the egg wraps on oil paper to avoid getting her hands dirty.

Two were given to each person. When it was given to Rongrong, the little one was still a bit shy, but she still sweetly said, "Thank you, sister-in-law."

Xu Qingmeng gently patted her head.

"Alright, you guys go have fun. Eat slowly, don't choke."

Before she could finish speaking, the three little ones dashed out in a flash.

Xu Qingmeng scooped out the remaining tiger-skin eggs. Madam He ate four and praised them highly. She then sent six more to Gu Yunyi. Xu Qingmeng herself ate two as well. There were probably about twenty left. They would be even more flavorful and delicious if left until evening.

Xu Qingmeng originally planned to cook some millet porridge and stir-fry two dishes for dinner, and then slice a plate of braised meat. That would solve her dinner problem. But before long, the young nobleman arrived. He was the same young nobleman who had come to buy food yesterday.

After inquiring about his purpose, I learned that this young man's surname was Shen, and he had just moved here. Yesterday, he happened to be passing by, smelled the delicious aroma, and since it was mealtime, he bought some to take home.

This young master Shen is also a big foodie, so he bought a house near the Gu family's residence and just settled in yesterday.
Young Master Shen hurriedly said, "We just moved here, and my wife is having some trouble adjusting to the new environment. She hasn't been able to eat properly for the past few days. Just now, Rongrong was eating tiger-skin eggs, which smelled so delicious that she couldn't resist taking a bite. Her appetite returned immediately, so I shamelessly came to your door. I wonder if you could spare a few eggs for me, Sister-in-law Gu?" "So Rongrong is from Young Master Shen's family. No wonder she's so beautiful," Madam He said with a smile.

Xu Qingmeng nodded knowingly, still feeling quite moved. This young master Shen seemed to be a doting husband, even putting aside the so-called face of a scholar so that his wife could have a proper meal, and coming to ask for eggs in such a hurry.

Xu Qingmeng naturally had no objections, so she packed up the remaining twenty eggs and gave them to Shen Jinwen to take with him.

Shen Jinwen was standing at the kitchen door in the courtyard, and naturally he smelled the aroma of the braised food. Thinking of the taste from last night, he couldn't help but smack his lips. Before leaving, he didn't forget to ask when the braised food would be ready, and asked He Shi to make sure to save him a bowl of fatty intestines and two pig's trotters.

Shen Jinwen also left the money for the eggs and the braised food for dinner.

While praising Shen Jinwen's wealth, Mrs. He was also delighted that she had a wealthy regular customer.

As soon as it got dark, He had just set up her stall when other businesses nearby, which were also packing up, stopped and quickly gathered around her.

"Sister-in-law Gu, give me a bowl of that braised pork intestines from last night."

"Give me a bowl too."

"Sister-in-law, cut me a pig's trotter, and add some kelp and bean curd sheets, and lots of braising liquid."

"Aunt Gu, is this a pig's ear? Give me one, and also weigh out some more tofu."

He Shi immediately got busy. Xu Qingmeng, who was usually in the kitchen, saw that He Shi was clearly overwhelmed with so many people, so she quickly went out to help.

Although Xu Qingmeng was a bit chubby, her knife skills were excellent and she was quick and efficient. So He Shi let her relax and helped her add braising liquid and pack the food. The two of them working together made the process much faster.

"Madam Gu, cut me half a pound of these pork intestines."

"Okay," Xu Qingmeng casually picked up a piece, weighed it in her hand, cut it in two with one stroke, and then took the slightly larger piece to prepare to cut it.

"I only want half a jin, I don't want any more," the woman quickly said, afraid that Xu Qingmeng would cut too much for her.

Xu Qingmeng said with a smile, "Don't worry, Auntie, it's exactly half a jin, no more, no less."

As she spoke, she placed the section of fatty intestine in her hand on the scale and weighed it. It really was half a jin (250 grams), not a bit more.

Upon seeing this, the woman exclaimed in surprise.
"Madam Gu, your move is truly impressive!" Everyone echoed in praise.

Xu Qingmeng just smiled slightly and didn't say anything, continuing with her work. However, after she finished cutting, she would always have He Shi weigh it to avoid giving others anything to say.

"Madam Gu, give me a pig's trotter. I bought half of it yesterday, but it wasn't enough."

"Give me a bowl of braised pork intestines, with lots of broth, so I can mix it with rice when I get home."

At this time, the workers who had been working also finished their shifts, and now there were even more people.
