Chapter 46 Poetry Party
He secretly thought to himself that perhaps he shouldn't have come today.

"Brother Zhang, you've spoken so early. Who is this young master?"

Zhang Quan replied, "Brother Liu, it's been a long time. This is Brother Gu, who topped the list in this county examination."

"Oh? Brother Gu, I've long admired your name!"

Gu Yunyi bowed slightly in return.

Zhang Quan was quite popular in this group because his father was a teacher at Hengshan Academy, and he kept introducing other scholars to Gu Yunyi.

Gu Yunyi maintained a calm smile throughout. The others appeared somewhat reserved, flustered, and unsure of where to stand.

People reacted differently to him; some treated him warmly, some showed disdain, and some ignored him. However, after half an hour together, everyone silently concluded that Gu Yunyi was nothing more than a bookworm, ignorant of social etiquette, and inflexible.

Zhang Quan was also dissatisfied with Gu Yunyi's performance. After settling him in a corner seat, he began to mingle with the others, chatting and laughing. Meanwhile, the host, Young Master Liu, still hadn't shown up.

The noise gradually subsided as the sun rose high in the sky. Everyone looked towards the lakeside, where a group of people slowly approached. Those who had been toasting each other just moments before rose to greet them.

Gu Yunyi's eyes flickered slightly, and he also stood up, lightly smoothing his sleeves, standing alone in the shadows, not attracting attention.

"Young Master Liu!" Zhang Quan and several activists hurriedly stepped forward to greet him.

Young Master Liu was about twenty years old, dressed in brocade robes, with an exquisitely carved jade pendant at his waist, and accompanied by a woman in a white gauze hibiscus dress.

Gu Yunyi's gaze swept over the crowd and settled on the woman. She had a beautiful face and smiling eyes, but the fragrance of her cosmetics was impossible to hide.

"Please, everyone, make yourselves at home and have a seat." Young Master Liu laughed heartily, ordered fine wine and delicacies to be served, and then took the seat of honor with great poise, with a woman gently leaning against him.

"Today is an auspicious day, why don't we gather together for a literary gathering? We also have a few beautiful ladies who are skilled in exotic dances at Jin Yun Lou, how about we enjoy them together?" Young Master Liu suggested.

"Young Master Liu is too kind."

"To have won the favor of Young Master Liu, I should certainly appreciate it."

"Young Master Liu is truly a generous and magnanimous person."

Everyone echoed his sentiments, their words filled with flattery.

Lin Yichen did not sit down with Young Master Liu, but stood in a corner, but still saw Gu Yunyi who was also in the corner.

He glanced in Gu Yunyi's direction, wondering why he was there.

Although the two were not very familiar with each other, they had met a few times. In addition, Miss Xu, whom he fell in love with at first sight, was Gu Yunyi's wife. He had his servants investigate this person just yesterday.

Lin Yichen gave Gu Yunyi a look, then quietly left.

"Brother Lin, is there something you need?" Gu Yunyi asked politely.

"Why are you here?" Lin Yichen asked in a low voice.

"What?" Gu Yunyi asked, puzzled.

Lin Chen frowned, his face showing displeasure: "Do you know where this is? And what are these people doing?" "Isn't it just a literary gathering?" Gu Yunyi replied.

“You…” Lin Yichen took a deep breath and said in a deep voice, “This place is called Red Ribbon, a place of entertainment. Now that you are married, you should no longer set foot here.”

Gu Yunyi chuckled lightly: "Brother Lin, I never expected you to be so old-fashioned. It's common for men to have multiple wives and concubines. Besides, this is my private matter, and it doesn't seem to concern you much. Why did it upset you?"

"Gu Yunyi, you are already a husband! If Mengniang knew this, how would she face herself?" Lin Yichen questioned.

Gu Yunyi's smile vanished, and he said coldly, "Mengniang? Young Master Lin, we are merely casual acquaintances. How dare you call me Mengniang? What is your purpose in showing such concern for my wife?"

Lin Yichen clenched his fists, a gloomy aura surrounding him, his eyes fixed on Gu Yunyi, his emotions suppressed.

Gu Yunyi remained calm and composed, as if he hadn't seen anything, his lips still curved upwards, maintaining his gentle and refined scholarly image.

His heart was in turmoil, wondering what the relationship was between this young master Lin and his wife, and how they met.
After a long pause, before Lin Yichen could speak, Liu Gongzi's voice came from inside: "I heard that the top scorer in this county examination is here, but I haven't seen him."

"Brother Gu, Young Master Liu is calling for you." Zhang Quan hurriedly looked for him.

Gu Yunyi smiled lightly, "If there's nothing else, I'll go in first. Also, Xu Qingmeng is mine, and can only be mine. Please, Young Master Lin, put away your little thoughts." After saying that, he stepped inside.

Lin Yichen sighed softly and followed suit.

The poetry and prose gathering did not conclude until evening.

Gu Yunyi gained the favor of Young Master Liu, and his impromptu writings impressed many. However, aside from his poetry, prose, and scholarship, his verbal expression and interpersonal skills remained immature, making him rather uninteresting.

Nevertheless, Young Master Liu took a liking to him and even later brought in singers to entertain him.

Unfortunately, at that moment, Gu Yunyi trembled with fear, his eyes darting around blankly, and he blurted out, "Indecent things should not be witnessed." This caused Young Master Liu to laugh loudly, and then he waved for the beauty to leave, thus letting him go.

Lin Yichen breathed a slight sigh of relief upon seeing this.

In truth, Lin Yichen was in a very complicated state of mind. Why couldn't he control himself? Why did he act impulsively? Was this something he should have said?
He's so deeply involved now, but Xu Qingmeng might not even remember who he is? They only met once? Besides, she's already married, and her husband is learned and more handsome than him. He's just asking for trouble.

Lin Yichen felt he had met her too late, but who could predict matters of the heart?

As evening fell, these spoiled young masters continued their unspeakable gathering with Young Master Liu. Zhang Quan stayed with Young Master Liu, while Gu Yunyi bid farewell to the people he had just met.

The young men he knew invited him to a restaurant for drinks. Gu Yunyi looked embarrassed, rummaged through his pockets, and felt quite awkward.

"I left in a hurry and forgot to bring any money. If there is an opportunity next time, I will treat everyone to a meal to make amends."

"Hahahaha, you refused Young Master Liu's invitation to stay the night earlier, and now you won't even go for drinks. I think your wife at home is too strict with you!"

Gu Yunyi didn't feel offended at all. He just scratched his head and subconsciously pursed his lips in embarrassment, "Please forgive my rudeness, gentlemen."

"Alright, alright, hurry home. It wouldn't be good if your sister-in-law got worried and came looking for you herself."

Gu Yunyi's ears turned slightly red. He bid farewell to everyone, turned around and left quickly, almost running as he disappeared into the night.
