Chapter 29: Strange Dream
Chapter 29 29. Strange Dream
When night fell, Jiang Jianxin returned to the villa.
The interior of this villa in Shuguang Base is fully decorated, and Jiang Jianxin can move in right away.
So she just bought a set of bedding and pajamas at the base supermarket. After making the bed, she changed into pajamas and went to bed.
Jiang Jianxin planned to go around the inner and outer cities of the base tomorrow, so he decided to go to bed early.
Several houses near the villa are empty. The only house with people living there is Yin Ju's house, and there is no light on. It is estimated that he is in a meeting or recuperating in the hospital.
Jiang Jianxin was the only living person in the quiet villa area. A younger girl might have felt scared, but Jiang Jianxin only felt comfortable.
She lay flat on her back, placed her hands in front of her, and soon fell asleep.
……
"Sir... medicine... please save me and my child..."
A woman's sharp, tearful call rang in his ears. Jiang Jianxin opened his eyes and found that the scene in front of him had changed drastically.
A blood-red moon hung in the sky, emitting a cold light. It was clearly night, but it was as bright as day.
A gorgeously decorated carriage sped along the blue-tiled stone road, and the woman curled up beside her shouted to the people in the carriage.
What responded to her was the wind with the smell of earth kicked up by the horses' hooves and the indifferent faces of the passers-by on both sides of the road.
Jiang Jianxin looked at himself and found that his body seemed to have shrunk. Two fleshy and dirty little hands stretched out from under the tattered black robe.
The fecal-smelling water in the sewage trough next to her reflected her tender little face, which looked only four or five years old.
Those big, bright, dark eyes held a depth that didn't belong to his age.
"De...Delis..."
The woman curled up beside her hugged her with her withered arms.
Only then did Jiang Jianxin discover that the woman's body was covered with dense black rashes. The skin without rashes was also ulcerated, and the stench of the living dead emanated from every pore of her.
The rotten flesh stained her black robe and stained her body with pus.
"Delis...Mom is leaving and can't stay with you anymore..."
The woman also knew that her time was up. She had a pair of beautiful light blue eyes, and at this moment, tears were sparkling in them.
Jiang Jianxin felt her mind was in a mess. She didn't know what to say, so she could only listen to the woman's increasingly low whispers:
"Delis...my child Delis...it would be so wonderful if you were really Delis..."
The woman fell to the ground, unable to open her eyes. Her dry yellow hair looked like a pile of straw, and her light blue pupils gradually lost focus.
Before death came, she still tried to open her eyelids. Through the shadowy figure of Jiang Jianxin, she seemed to see another person. A relieved smile appeared on her face full of rotten flesh:
"If Delis were still alive...she would be as old as you..."
The dead woman fell beside her. Jiang Jianxin sat beside the sewage ditch, staring blankly at the red moon in the sky.
"Da da da da..."
The sound of people walking in unison was heard in the distance, and a group of patrolling soldiers wearing silver armor came up to the two of them.
Jiang Jianxin was small in stature and could only see the soldiers' high white stockings and silver pointed-toe shoes.
The shoe that hurts when kicked kicked the woman to death and said with disgust:
"Another death from the plague. Burn it right here."
The soldiers' attention shifted to her again. Jiang Jianxin lowered her head, her small hands nervously picking at her clothes.
"The child has been stained with that woman's pus, and is probably infected too. Let's burn it together."
An exceptionally cold voice came from above, no one objected, only the cool breeze swaying through the street.
A soldier nearby took out a tinderbox and threw it at the dead woman.
"Crackling..."
The flames consumed the figure, eating away her dry yellow hair and pale blue eyes bit by bit, until her entire body was a huge fire.
A soldier suddenly reached out from behind and pushed Jiang Jianxin into the fire.
The raging flames tore at her clothes, and the intense heat burned Jiang Jianxin so much that she wanted to call Tang Guangjian, but she found that she could not make a sound.
At this critical moment, a strong and cold wind suddenly blew from afar.
“Hualala——”
The blazing fire was extinguished by the sudden gust of wind.
Jiang Jianxin was lying on the ashes, with most of the long black robe he was wearing burned, revealing the thin gray inner garment.
She looked towards where the wind had just blown from.
Someone was standing on a distant street, beneath the blood-red moon.
Judging from the blurry figure, he was probably eight or nine years older than her, and already had the upright figure of a teenager.
He wore a long black suit, a neatly folded white silk scarf tied around his neck, and a pair of black-gloved hands rested on a brown wooden cane. A wide-brimmed wizard's hat perched on his head obscured his face, revealing only his waist-length black hair and the silver thread of his monocle.
The patrolling soldier saw him and shouted in fear:
"It's him! It's that devil! Death is coming, run!"
After saying this, the group of people stopped marching, picked up their spears, turned around and ran away in a hurry.
"Da da da--"
The sound of chaotic footsteps was heard, and Jiang Jianxin saw that the soldiers' shouting also called out to many people in the houses on both sides of the street, who fled in all directions.
The young man on the far street was still standing there, leaning on his crutches, neither chasing after him nor moving.
The red moonlight stretched his back very long on the street.
He saw the little girl's bright eyes in the ashes, shining like the black gems on the scepter.
She didn't seem to be afraid of him. When everyone dispersed, she still sat there, looking at her with her big eyes without blinking.
Inexplicably, he suddenly had a strange feeling. The usually cold face tried to curl up the corners of his lips and showed Jiang Jianxin a comforting smile.
The little girl looked at him and smiled sweetly.
The young man in black was stunned, bowed slightly, and elegantly pressed the wizard hat towards her with his black-gloved left hand. Then he turned around and walked away slowly with his crutches.
He walked under the blood moon, and his figure was also dyed with the color of red wine.
Jiang Jianxin kept staring at the back.
After a while, she stood up hastily without her control, and stumbled forward in her black robe, shouting in a childish voice:
“Wait… wait a minute…!”
The young gentleman, who was about to disappear at the end of the street, paused. He turned his head, and his monocle dangled in the bright moonlight above his head.
"What are you following me for?"
The boy stopped and looked at the little ball who stumbled towards him and asked gently.
He squatted down and reached out a black-gloved hand to touch her head.
"Thank you for saving me."
Jiang Jianxin looked at his face and felt that it looked familiar, but she couldn't remember where she had seen him. She heard herself answering in a baby voice.
"You're welcome. I saved you... because you look a lot like my sister who was burned to death."
The young man smiled somewhat melancholy.
"...De...Delis?"
Jiang Jianxin heard himself say this dryly.
"Your name is Delis?"
The boy glanced at her. He had beautiful eyes, dark blue, slightly upturned, and long eyelashes.
Milk bun shook his head and said:
"Can I come with you?"
The young man looked at her scrutinizingly, with a lonely smile in his eyes:
"Do you know who I am?"
The young man seemed to say something, his lips opening and closing, but Jiang Jianxin could no longer hear him.
“Dangdangdang——”
“Dangdangdang——”
“Dangdangdang——”
……
The surrounding scene quickly blurred and faded. Several rapid knocks on the door hit Jiang Jianxin's eardrums heavily, driving the last trace of the dream out of his mind.
Jiang Jianxin opened his eyes on the bed and looked at the sky which was still dark. He was stunned for a moment.
She seemed to have just... had a strange dream?
But she couldn't remember what the dream was about.
The knocks on the door were getting louder and louder. Jiang Jianxin scratched his head randomly, stood up suddenly, and shouted angrily at the door:
"Who is this?! Do you have any manners? Why are you knocking on the door when I'm sleeping?"
The knocking stopped. After a moment of silence outside, Yin Ju's dry voice came:
"Jiang Jianxin came to see you so early...I'm sorry for disturbing your rest."
"But the United Front Work Department just notified us of an emergency meeting...Zhenbei City has fallen, and the situation is extremely critical."
