Chapter 27 Shelter Proposal 2
"I will help you," Xiao Ran said finally, "but I have one condition."

Su Wanqing raised an eyebrow. "Speak."

"Ensure Ding Ding's safety," Xiao Ran said firmly, "No matter what happens, she must be placed in a safe place."

Su Wanqing looked at Ding Ding and nodded. "As long as you abide by my conditions, I will do my best to protect her. But you have to understand that there is no absolute safety in this world today."

"I know," Xiao Ran said, "but we must do our best."

"So, have we reached an agreement?" Su Wanqing stretched out her hand.

Xiao Ran held her hand and nodded vigorously. "Agreement reached."

At this moment, Lin Che suddenly jumped up from the sofa, covering his head with his hands, his expression painful.

"Ah!" He let out a low groan.

Su Wanqing immediately turned and walked towards him. "Aze? What's wrong with you?"

"I can't hold on any longer and will soon change back." His voice was intermittent, as if he was in great pain.

Su Wanqing held his shoulders. "Is the suppressor working again?"

Aze nodded painfully. "Yes, and there's something else. Memories... Memories are coming back. Memories of that abandoned research institute. There... There was more than just a place for experiments."

"What else is there?" Su Wanqing asked anxiously.

Aze's breathing became increasingly rapid. "This is the origin of the Spark Project. There's information about the seven elemental masters: water, fire, wind, earth, metal, and wood."

His words became increasingly unclear and his facial muscles began to twitch.

"Aze, you need to rest," Su Wanqing said firmly, "Go into a deep hibernation state. Let Lin Che come back."

"No, I have something important to tell you."

Aze reluctantly said, "That research institute is not just studying people with special abilities. They are trying to create a... a channel. Leading to..."

His voice suddenly cut off, and he fell backwards. Su Wanqing quickly supported him and gently placed him on the sofa.

"Where does it lead to?" Su Wanqing asked, but Aze had already lost consciousness.

Xiao Ran walked over to Su Wanqing. "What was he talking about? The passage?"

"I don't know," Su Wanqing shook her head, "but it doesn't sound good."

She checked Lin Che's pulse and pupil reaction. "He needs to rest now. The suppressor is too strong, and Aze's appearance has consumed a lot of his energy."

Xiao Ran pondered for a moment. "Do you think that abandoned research institute is really worth visiting? If that's where the Spark Project originated, it might have strict security and dangerous experiments."

"That's why we have to go," Su Wanqing replied, "If we want to understand the truth of all this and find a way to fight against the institute, that might be the only way out."

Xiao Ran nodded in agreement. "Since we've already reached an agreement, I'll be frank. I have some military contacts who might be able to help. But I need to confirm your true intentions."

Su Wanqing looked at him with a calm expression. "My intention is simple: survive, then seek revenge."

"Revenge?" Xiao Ran raised his eyebrows.

"The institute took away everything from me," Su Wanqing's tone turned cold, "not just material things, but also something more important."

"What did you lose?" Xiao Ran asked.

Su Wanqing didn't answer immediately. She walked to the window and looked at the imaginary blue sky and white clouds in the space.

"Maybe one day I'll tell you. For now, we need to make a plan."

"Regarding that abandoned research institute," Xiao Ran said, "we need to investigate. I can go explore the way first."

Su Wanqing turned and looked at him. "No, we'll go together. But before that, we both need rest and supplies."

"What about Ding Ding?" Xiao Ran asked, "We can't take her to such a dangerous place."

Su Wanqing thought for a moment. "We can first find the West District shelter and confirm its safety. If it's safe, we can send Ding Ding there." Xiao Ran nodded. "That sounds like a reasonable plan."

Su Wanqing walked back to Lin Che and checked on him. His breathing had calmed down, but his face was still pale.

"Lin Che needs more salt and rest. Once he recovers, we'll set off."

"Where are we going? The West District Shelter or the Abandoned Research Institute?" Xiao Ran asked.

"Let's go to the shelter first," Su Wanqing decided, "let Ding Ding settle down, and then go to the research institute."

Xiao Ran agreed to the plan. He walked over to Ding Ding and gently covered her with a blanket.

The little girl frowned slightly in her sleep, and Xiao Ran's expression softened.

"Can I ask you a question?" He didn't turn around and spoke in a low voice.

"What's the problem?" Su Wanqing asked.

"Why are you helping us?" Xiao Ran turned and looked at her. "You can act on your own without taking the risk of helping us."

Su Wanqing was silent for a moment. "Because I know how difficult it is to survive alone in this world. And," she paused, "I also have my own goals. Lin Che's abilities and secrets can be useful to me, as can your combat abilities and military connections."

Xiao Ran nodded, seeming satisfied with this honest answer.

"At least you're honest."

"In the end times, there's no time for hypocritical games," Su Wanqing said. "We each take what we need and help each other."

"Speaking of taking what we need," Xiao Ran suddenly remembered something, "We need weapons and supplies. Is there anything in this space that we can use?"

Su Wanqing pointed to a cabinet at the other end of the room. "There's some basic equipment in there. Guns, ammunition, a first aid kit, food, and water. It's not much, but it should last for a while."

Xiao Ran walked over and opened the cabinet, and was surprised to find that there were indeed various equipment inside.

"Did you prepare all this?"

"In the apocalypse, being prepared is the key to survival," Su Wanqing replied, "My spatial ability allows me to store a certain amount of supplies."

Xiao Ran took out a pistol and checked the magazine. "This is a military-issued M9. It's not easy to obtain in the civilian sector."

He looked at Su Wanqing with a new assessment in his eyes, "What did you do before?"

"Does this matter?" Su Wanqing asked back.

"Maybe it's not important," Xiao Ran admitted, "but knowing your background might help us work together."

Su Wanqing sighed. "I used to be a medical researcher specializing in gene therapy."

"That explains why you're so skilled at treating wounds and using medicine," Xiao Ran said, "and why the institute is interested in you."

"That's partly why," Su Wanqing replied vaguely, "Now, we should all rest. I'll set an alarm. If the jade bracelet detects a problem in the space, it will notify us immediately."

Xiao Ran nodded in agreement and put the gun back in the cabinet. "I'll take turns keeping watch. You can rest first."

"There's no need to keep watch in this space," Su Wanqing said. "It's completely isolated. No external threats can enter."

Xiao Ran hesitated for a moment, obviously not used to completely letting his guard down in an unfamiliar environment.

"Okay, but if anything seems out of the ordinary, wake me up immediately."

Su Wanqing nodded in agreement and walked towards her bed. She lay down and closed her eyes, but her mind was still racing.

What is the passage that Aze mentioned? What is the truth behind the Spark Project?
How many secrets are still hidden in Lin Che?

These questions swirled around in her mind until exhaustion finally took over and she slowly drifted off to sleep.
