Chapter 89 Counterattack in Danger
The entrance to the basement was barely closed by the vibration, and the harsh sound of metal rubbing against each other echoed in the small space.

Su Wanqing quickly glanced around. There were gray walls, damp ground, and the air was filled with a strange smell mixed with disinfectant and blood.

Professor Yang's face was pale, he clutched his briefcase tightly, and his body was trembling slightly.

"The situation is not good." Lu Zhao's voice was calm and composed. He was checking the portable decoder.

"The number of infected bodies far exceeds our expectations, and they seem to be aware of our actions."

"Ye, what should we do now?" Su Wanqing asked, her eyes falling on Lin Che.

Lin Che's body was still trembling slightly, his purple hair was scattered and stuck to his forehead, and his eyes were empty, as if they had lost focus.

"Transfer the data first." Ye's voice came out from Lin Che's mouth, with a coldness that did not belong to him.

"The core experimental data must be preserved, otherwise all efforts will be in vain."

"I'll do it." Lu Zhao said, quickly took the briefcase from Professor Yang, and began to import the data into the decoding machine.

His fingers tapped quickly on the keyboard, and dense codes scrolled across the screen.

"We have to buy time." Su Wanqing said. "Xiao Ran, what do you think?"

Xiao Ran stood at the entrance, silently observing the outside. His red hair was particularly eye-catching in the dim light, and his face was expressionless.

"I'll attract the fire." Xiao Ran said, his voice low and firm.

"You guys are responsible for transferring the data and finding an exit. I can hold them off for a while."

"No, it's too dangerous!" Su Wanqing immediately objected. "We must act together to ensure safety."

"There's no time for argument." Xiao Ran shook his head. "I'm better at close combat, and I have some weapons and supplies on me to minimize the damage. Trust me, this is the best option."

Su Wanqing gritted her teeth and finally nodded. "Okay, be careful. Keep in touch at any time."

Xiao Ran didn't say anything else. He took out a dagger and several grenades from his backpack, then took a deep breath and opened the entrance to the basement.

"Listen to me!" Xiao Ran's voice resounded throughout the basement.

"I need your time, and I'll do my best to get it!"

After saying that, Xiao Ran rushed out, holding the dagger tightly in his hand.

"Damn, this guy." Su Wanqing cursed under her breath.

"What a lunatic."

"He has his reasons," Lu Zhao said. "We must trust him and complete our mission."

"Ye, do you have any suggestions?" Su Wanqing asked.

"There is an abandoned experimental passage on the second floor of the quarantine area, which may lead to a safe area."

Ye said. "But this passage is quite hidden and needs to be searched carefully."

"Okay, let's go and take a look." Su Wanqing said, taking Professor Yang and Lu Zhao to the second floor.

They climbed the stairs carefully, taking each step with extreme caution.

The stairs were narrow and steep, and the air was filled with a foul smell.

"This place is terrible," Professor Yang muttered. "When I was young, I never thought I would end up in a place like this."

"Stop complaining." Lu Zhao said coldly. "Now is not the time to complain. Focus."

They finally reached the second floor and began searching the corridors, which were empty and littered with abandoned lab equipment and documents.

"It seems like no one has been here for a long time." Su Wanqing said.

"Be careful," Ye said. "The infected could appear at any time."

At this moment, Lu Zhao suddenly stopped and his eyes fell on a wall.

"There's a secret door here," Lu Zhao said. "I'll open it."

Lu Zhao walked to the wall and began to check the mechanism of the secret door. He carefully felt every corner of the wall and finally found a hidden button.

"Found it." Lu Zhao said.

He pressed the button and the secret door slowly opened, revealing a narrow passage.

"Let's go," Su Wanqing said. They entered the passage cautiously. It was pitch black, and you couldn't see your hand in front of you.

"Ye, what can you see?" Su Wanqing asked.

"The passage is very long and has many forks in the road," Ye said.

“We need to choose carefully.”

They continued along the passage and soon came to a fork in the road.

"Go left or right?" Su Wanqing asked.

"Go right," Ye said. "The passage on the right is wider and there are no obvious dangers."

Following Ye's instructions, they chose the passage on the right. The passage was still pitch black, but the air was filled with a faint smell of medicine.

"This used to be a laboratory," Lu Zhao said. "Maybe we can find some useful information here."

They continued forward and soon came to a room filled with some experimental equipment and documents, but most of them were damaged.

"This looks like a biological laboratory." Su Wanqing said.

At this moment, Lu Zhao suddenly found a piece of paper with a line of words written on it:

"The infected bodies are not completely out of control. They are controlled by some force."

"What?" Lu Zhao exclaimed. "How is this possible?"

"Tell me in detail." Su Wanqing asked.

Lu Zhao handed the note to Su Wanqing, who read the contents carefully.

"This shows that someone is secretly controlling the infected body." Su Wanqing said.

"We have to find out who it is as soon as possible."

"Let me try," Ye said. "Maybe I can use my ability to find the source of the infection."

Ye closed his eyes and began to concentrate. His body trembled slightly, and his purple hair was faintly visible in the darkness.

"I sense a powerful force," Ye said. "This force comes from deep within the quarantine zone."

"Deep in the quarantine zone?" Su Wanqing asked. "What's there?"

"That's the quarantine area's operating room," Ye said. "Perhaps the source of the infection control lies there."

"We have to go there," Su Wanqing said. "But it must be heavily guarded."

"It's okay." Ye said. "I will do my best to help you."

Just then, Su Wanqing's communicator rang.

"Su Wanqing, this is Xiao Ran." Xiao Ran's voice came from the communicator.

"I found something that might be helpful to you."

"What's going on?" Su Wanqing asked.

"While I was luring away the infected body, I discovered a hidden surveillance room."

Xiao Ran said, "I quickly hijacked its data and unexpectedly discovered that some of the infected bodies seemed to be under human control."

"Manual control?" Su Wanqing exclaimed. "Are you sure?"

"I'm sure," Xiao Ran said. "I've secretly passed this information to you via wireless signal and suggest that you prioritize investigating the specific location of the quarantine area's operating room."

"Okay, I understand." Su Wanqing said. "Thank you, Xiao Ran."

"You're welcome." Xiao Ran said. "I just did what I was supposed to do."

Su Wanqing hung up the communicator and turned to look at Lu Zhao and Professor Yang.

"It seems we have to go to the isolation area operation room as soon as possible." Su Wanqing said.

"The key to solving all mysteries may be hidden there."

"Let's go." Lu Zhao said.

They set out on their journey again, heading towards the isolation area operation room.
