Infinite Terror: Infinite Reversal
Chapter 18 Revealed in Advance
Chapter 18 Revealed in Advance
“I could show you, but there’s no need,” the Red Queen said, “because you’re right. But I’m curious how you know all this so clearly?”
"You'd have to ask me that. I don't know," Mu Xiang shrugged. "I only know that I can investigate the truth now, even if it's only part of it. Surely, with my authority, I can't see the surveillance footage?"
"No, your privileges are probably the second highest among the existing security personnel, which is enough for you to see the surveillance footage, but that doesn't seem like a reason for you to know so many details," the Red Queen questioned calmly but relentlessly.
[The highest-ranking one should be Security Chief Alice... Is the God giving me such face by assigning her such a high position?]
While thinking this, Mu Xiang calmly said, "Really? You mean you suspect I have a problem... or rather, you suspect I also have a problem? If I remember correctly, there was indeed a mole who caused this incident, and because of the mole, all of our security personnel are no longer trusted, right?"
The Red Queen fell silent, and Mu Xiang knew he had hit the nail on the head. The Red Queen couldn't possibly be unaware that Spence was the culprit, but that wasn't that important to her: because she had always intended to kill everyone in the Hive, including the special forces who entered later. Dealing with the mole could be accomplished simultaneously with the ultimate goal of containment and elimination. Whether Spence was sealed off and killed from the beginning, escaped outside and was captured unconscious, or was brought back to the Hive and killed, none of it affected the final objective.
“Someone ordered me to urgently handle the Red Queen’s security system, which is why I was able to see remote monitoring with high-level privileges. I wonder if you have any records of high-level access from companies outside the Hive at that time,” Mu Xiang said slowly, rubbing his temples. “I don’t remember the specific details of the mission, but I remember that the purpose was to prevent the loss of Hive’s research data and results. But it seems that I failed now, otherwise there would have been no need to send special forces to retrieve your motherboard.”
[Spence in the movie is like a corporate spy... He's definitely only half-informed and was simply used as a pawn. The mastermind behind it can most likely be traced back to Dr. Isaac. It's undeniable that there are high-ranking members at Umbrella Corporation who want to release the virus, and in that situation, they would absolutely need remote access to the Hive's systems to check the situation. Even without any evidence of access, the Red Queen knows this is a privilege reserved for high-level personnel, and the emergency authorization given to individuals inside the Hive from outside is not something the Red Queen could know. She has no reason to refute me.]
The other three didn't quite understand what Mu Xiang and Red Queen were arguing about, but it seemed Red Queen had been persuaded. In fact, they could be considered persuaded... From the moment he started talking to James, Mu Xiang hadn't bothered to prove anything, attributing the crucial points to amnesia caused by nerve gas. And in the context of the entire Hive incident and the current mission, Mu Xiang's identity was no longer crucial. Once he claimed to be an insider, linking his self-verification to the incident recap, he only needed to state everything he knew, and then let others verify it. After his statements were verified and he was cleared of suspicion of leaking information, even if there were still doubts about his story, they wouldn't bother digging deeper within the Hive—by then, Mu Xiang would have already made his escape and returned to the Main God Space.
And now, it's Mu Xiang's turn to bring key figures to verify this!
While Mu Xiang was rambling, Kaplan checked the surveillance footage from other areas. After rewinding the footage, he confirmed that suffocation and resurrection several hours later were almost a consistent pattern across the entire Hive.
Seeing that Mu Xiang had finally finished speaking with the Red Queen, Alice couldn't help but ask, "What exactly happened to them?"
"It's because of a virus leak from the company's research that their corpses were turned into these monsters." Mu Xiang sneered. "You can ask Red Queen about that; she knows everything. My suggestion now is to find out who released the virus first."
At this moment, the surveillance footage was still showing the moments of death of employees in various areas; rewinding further would soon reveal the time of the leak. "Stop!" Mu Xiang called for a halt the instant the access control was activated, a move that occurred almost simultaneously across the entire Hive. The surveillance footage showed that all entrances and exits to various areas were sealed off, and a group of employees were trapped in front of the doors.
Kaplan didn't understand why his superior suddenly trusted this boy so much, but since his superior had no objections, he obediently did as he was told. Looking at the already small screen, now divided into countless pieces, he was somewhat confused: "Which area are you looking for?"
[If I remember correctly, Camera 05S, Internal Lab 13, Section 8-Level 06... I'm ashamed to admit I'm not confident in the accuracy of the translation, so I'll just have to follow the clues myself.]
To paraphrase Chu Xuan, "I still remember things quite vividly from the time I've seen them so recently." While Mu Xiang wouldn't remember such details from movies he watched seven years ago, he could still recall quite a few of the films he reviewed after finishing his middle school entrance exams.
As he was thinking this, Mu Xiang couldn't help but exclaim inwardly how amazing the God of Translation was. He discovered that he could understand the camera area numbers without translating them into Chinese, and that this didn't affect the correspondence with the untranslated numbers in his memory. The rest was simple; he quickly located the laboratory where the virus was leaking by following the numbers and perspectives he remembered.
“That’s right, this is it… I’m absolutely sure I’ve seen this surveillance footage!” Mu Xiang said in a low voice, keeping his voice between a muttering and the other three being able to hear him.
The rest was simple; all that was needed was to check all the security cameras in the lab. Mu Xiang remembered that in the movie, Spencer had taken off his hazmat suit before leaving the room, so even without checking the cameras in other areas, the surveillance footage from this lab alone was enough to pinpoint him.
When that face appeared on screen, everyone's eyes widened in surprise...
“I had always suspected that the Red Queen’s strong desire to attack us was because we were considered unclean…” Mu Xiang said calmly. “Firstly, because we may also have been infected with the virus, and secondly, because there was a traitor among us… Of course, before watching the video, I didn’t dare to confirm how many there were or whether they were among us. I just felt a strange feeling when I saw him.”
This is obviously Mu Xiang's nonsense. The Red Queen's desire to attack them stems from the goal of complete containment and elimination; their identities are secondary. He's saying all this to mislead the movie characters. In reality, given the different purposes of complete containment and evacuation from the Hive, the conflict between the Red Queen and them is irreconcilable! The Red Queen can only compromise with them if they don't break the complete containment—like in the movie where she tells everyone about a path to survival fraught with death, or in the novel where she shelters the Reincarnation Squad members in the control room.
Mu Xiang glanced at Alice. The woman's gaze was shifting back and forth between the surveillance camera and the ring on her hand. Presumably, some memory was flooding her mind again... As for what that memory was, perhaps it wouldn't be something she could see for free.
