Chapter 278 Lurking
"Hey, aren't you guys going to class yet?" The two walked towards the crowd, and Laurie waved at them from half a street away.

The Supreme God has assigned us identities...

Mu Xiang smiled and said, "Aren't we planning to go?"

Tommy looked at the Central Continent team members curiously, then pointed at Zhang Jie and Zheng Zha: "If you two are late again, Mr. Brecker will kick your butts."

Zhang Jie was stunned for a moment. His eyes darted around, and Laurie and Tommy were frozen in place. Then Zhang Jie looked at Mu Xiang: "What's going on?"

“The main god has assigned us identities, which matches the mission requirements.” Mu Xiang pushed up his glasses. “Breckert is the town’s sheriff. Since Tommy said so, it means that you two are police officers… and some of us have also been assigned student identities, which makes it easier to contact them.”

"Wow, there's even role-playing," Zhang Jie muttered. "We don't even have police uniforms, do we?"

Zhan Lan smiled and said, "Here, police uniforms are only worn when you're on duty. You'll definitely find one at the police station."

Seeing Zheng Zha and Zhang Jie looking at each other in confusion, Zhan Lan patted them on the shoulder and said, "Get ready to go on duty, officers."

Zheng Zha scratched his head and posed a crucial question: "Who are the students? And what are the identities of the others?"

Mu Xiang sighed: "If we were ordinary people, I would just say, I'll go to class first, and you guys go check the files; but Zhang Jie and Zhan Lan are here, so my suggestion is to search their memories directly."

Zhang Jie pondered for a moment, and then Laurie and Tommy sprang into action. Just like before a horror movie officially begins, the two ignored the Central Continent Team members, walking directly forward and casually launching into a conversation just like in a horror film.

"Hmm... found it." After a moment, Zhang Jie spoke up, announcing the search results.

After listening, Mu Xiang adjusted his glasses and said, "Alright, everyone, go about your business. If anything comes up, contact each other using your mental powers. The arrangement by the Supreme God is quite friendly; each identity has a companion. Don't take this path later, and don't meet with Michael yet... it's safer that way."

Zhang Heng, who had just become a firefighter, scratched his head: "So you're planning to have him keep an eye on you guys first?"

“That’s right, anyway, we’re not afraid.” Mu Xiang shrugged. “But don’t let your guard down. The identities that the God gives us will more or less be connected to Michael.”

“Students, police officers, militiamen, firefighters, doctors…” Liu Xi said casually, “and real estate agent assistants, warehouse managers, they will all be involved to some extent.”

Zhang Jie lit a cigarette: "Interesting. This is the first time I've heard of such an arrangement... According to Mu Xiang, who are we hiding for?"

“Let’s tentatively say it’s the religion behind Michael… It’s based on the novel of the same name that was licensed from the 1979 film, making it second only to the first movie in terms of authority.” Mu Xiang pushed up his glasses. “But is this religion worth being so wary of… That’s something we need to figure out.”

Zhan Lan said, "Zhang Jie and I have enough mental energy to cover the entire town, making it easy to monitor and communicate... but we can't find Michael now."

“It must be the main god blocking it… But once he shows up, I can directly implant a mental imprint on him. As long as he has a spiritual body, he will inevitably be affected. The main god shouldn’t target mental methods like this.” Zhang Jie took a deep drag of his cigarette, then patted Zheng Zha’s butt. “Let’s go, time to go to work.”

The group then parted ways, each going about their own business.

According to the movie's premise, when Laurie was on her way to school, she casually left the key to the Miles family's house under the old house door, and Michael Miles stood behind the door watching Laurie.

Distracted by Zhang Jie's suggestive gaze, Laurie and Tommy had already gone to school along their planned routes. As they walked away, a figure in overalls quietly appeared at the doorway, watching Laurie's retreating figure. "Hello... idiot, dead man?" Mu Xiang casually called out from behind, mimicking a line from the movie.

Michael silently turned around, looking at the presence he hadn't even noticed. After staring at each other for almost half a minute, Michael took a step back and disappeared behind the overgrown greenery.

Mu Xiang stared in the direction Michael had disappeared. The elusive nature depicted in the movies seemed clumsy to Mu Xiang… In the films, Michael was like a cat, swaggering around silently, making no deliberate stealth moves, yet remaining undetected. However, now, every single one of his movements was laid bare before Mu Xiang's X-ray vision.

What kind of eeriness will we encounter...? How much trouble can Michael alone cause? And how generous will the rewards be to match this horror film?

As far as Mu Xiang knows, there are a total of eleven "Halloween" films to date, namely the first ten films, plus the newly rebooted "Halloween". The newly rebooted film is touted as a new trilogy, with the first film released in 2018, followed by "Halloween: Carnage" and "Halloween: The Finale", which are scheduled for release in October 2021 and 2022, respectively.

Although the first installment of the reboot series, as a direct sequel to "Halloween 1," received very good reviews, second only to the earliest film in the entire series, Mu Xiang still has reservations about whether the next two films can be made well.

While in the Main God Space, Mu Xiang had everyone read through the entire series… but this was merely to help them better understand the series' structure and prevent them from being caught off guard by unexpected situations. To truly complete the mission, relying solely on the original plot was certainly insufficient. After all, the entire series has too many conflicting settings; they couldn't possibly adhere to completely opposite settings simultaneously, could they?
If you really want to sort it out, the whole series can be divided into five versions.

The first is the original series, namely *Halloween*, *Halloween 2*, *Halloween 4*, *Halloween 5*, and *Halloween 6*, which revolve around a doomed family and an evil cult. Starting from the second film, Laurie is established as Michael's sister. Although this setting comes later than many details in the official novels, it is the most influential setting.

The second series is the 20-year reboot, namely "Halloween 1", "Halloween 2", "Halloween 7", and "Halloween 8". Because the female lead was not changed, it is a relatively authentic series. While retaining the setting of the first and second films being set on the same night, the time jumps to 20 years later, overturning the previous films and showing Halloween stories from 1998 and 2002.

The third is a complete reboot of the series, namely the new versions of *Halloween 1* and *Halloween 2*. Although they don't directly follow the first film from 1978 and are more like remakes, they are also called *Halloween 9* and *Halloween 10*. These two films adjust Michael's origin story, and Laurie ultimately falls into the twisted world.

Fourth, the new reboot series, namely the earliest "Halloween 1", and the new trilogy that Mu Xiang has only seen one of. This story begins in 1978 and then jumps directly forty years to 2018. So far, it is the most successful series, but the last two have not been released yet, so it is not impossible for them to flop.

The fifth one is *Halloween 3*... This movie is very unique. When Mu Xiang first watched it, if it weren't for Michael Myers' cameo, he probably would have thought the website was showing the wrong movie. This movie is about a factory that produces killer masks, and it also has a bunch of robot villains, with little plot connection to the previous and subsequent parts of the series.

"In other words, we can't even be sure if Laurie is Michael's sister right now," Liu Xi concluded after listening to Mu Xiang's analysis in the shared mental energy.

Mu Xiang smiled bitterly to himself: "That's true, but the restrictions the Main God places on the clues aren't as severe as you think. As I said before, if we can't complete the final mission in this world based on our paper strength, then we deserve to be wiped out. Because we have the power to overturn the table, and when the time comes, overturning the table means... it's just that we've only just begun, and we still have to sit here."

"Your plan is just to sit here... I'm more interested in seeing how you unfold your plans." Liu Xi replied indifferently, writing down quantitative data on everyone in the classroom, from the teacher to the students, in her textbook.

Mu Xiang jotted down a key point from the teacher's notes: "The Lord God has given us a great advantage... According to the movie's premise, there might be lurking cultists in this town, monitoring Michael's actions. Our silent arrival has ironically turned into an ambush for them. Anyway, let's focus on Laurie first."

[Why use a nickname for the demon? Am I overthinking this?]

Laurie, whom they mentioned from time to time, was sitting behind them, lost in thought. Laurie wasn't exactly a model student in the traditional sense, and sitting in the last row, daydreaming was inevitable. Fortunately, she could switch between paying attention and daydreaming, so if the teacher called on her, she wouldn't be unable to answer properly.

Suddenly, Mu Xiang glanced out the window... A chilling aura lingered not far away; that person had arrived.

A car was parked across the street, and a head wearing a white mask appeared from behind it.
