Chapter 1 Roland

Chapter 1 Roland
cold!
The biting cold transformed into countless sharp ice needles, slowly and steadily penetrating every inch of flesh and bone. Wang Yun instinctively tried to curl up, but his limbs were stiff as ice, and all he felt was numbness and sluggishness.

The discomfort is mixed with pain, burning, and itching, making it extremely unpleasant.

He suddenly realized something was wrong. Without time to consider his situation, he forced himself to concentrate, trying to clear his muddled mind. But his eyelids felt like they were sewn shut; he couldn't budge them an inch no matter how hard he tried.

'Did I have a nightmare?! What was I doing before?' Wang Yun was confused and somewhat panicked.

But the sensation was too real. He could feel his heart pounding faster, and the warm blood flowing through every inch of his flesh was gradually driving away the numbness and cold.

The sound of the wind was filling my ears, growing stronger with each gust. The wooden doors and windows groaned under the strain, as if they would crumble at any moment.

After a few minutes, or maybe tens of seconds, Wang Yun fully regained consciousness, and all sorts of guesses and emotions churned in his mind like boiling water.

He gradually regained some sensation in his body and vaguely felt that he was leaning against a thick pillar, but he still couldn't move his body, so he must have been tied up.

This made Wang Yun even more uneasy.

'I've been kidnapped? No way!' He was just an ordinary low-level worker who never went abroad, never traveled, and was even a little weak. There was no reason for him to be targeted.

The unknown is always frightening. He struggled to contract his weak eye muscles, desperately wanting to understand his situation.

With a slight cracking sound, his eyelids finally broke free from the frost, and dim light immediately flooded his pupils.

What comes into view is a small, simple wooden cabin. The floor is made of grayish-brown mud, and the walls are made of rough logs covered with a layer of dark, mud-like substance that barely fills most of the gaps.

The area around the crevice was filled with fine snow, which would occasionally be blown away by the strong wind, scattering onto his body and the ground, layer upon layer.

Wang Yun was stunned by what he saw. Everything here was so unfamiliar; he was certain he had never seen it before.

He looked down blankly and found himself wrapped in many loops of hemp rope, his feet bound tightly with rough iron wire that cut deep into his flesh. His hands were twisted behind his back and firmly tied to the pillar behind him, his buttocks about two feet off the ground, unable to squat or stand up.

His half-naked body was covered in tattered clothes, his skin torn and bleeding, even the snow and frost were stained red, and there was a large dark red stain at his feet, a shocking sight.

Wang Yun's eyelids began to tremble involuntarily. His numb body saved his nerves, and the low-intensity pain was not enough to make him lose his mind.

'Really kidnapped?' For some reason, Wang Yun felt that something was wrong.

He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down. But the icy air felt like tiny knives, slicing through his nasal cavity, scraping his respiratory tract, and spreading all the way to his chest. The stinging pain made his lungs feel numb and itchy, and then spasmed.

"Cough cough..." He couldn't help but cough violently, his mouth filled with a metallic sweet taste.

The cough was like a lit fuse, instantly igniting the pain throughout his body. It felt as if an invisible hand had brutally burrowed into his chest cavity, violently gripping his internal organs and churning them.

The vibration and pain spread rapidly throughout my body like an electric current, and my previously stiff and numb body gradually regained sensation, but the feeling was not pleasant.

"boom--"

The wooden door on the right side of his body was suddenly kicked open, and a fierce blizzard rushed in, instantly dissipating the little warmth the cabin had.

Wang Yun's breath hitched, and his heart leaped into his throat. He struggled to turn his head, only to see three pairs of dirty leather boots covered in snow and a dilapidated wooden door that bounced back rapidly.

No one spoke. The three of them filed in quickly, slamming the wooden door shut and keeping the howling wind and snowflakes out.

Before Wang Yun could react, a tall, muscular figure covered in snow approached and forcefully poked a wound on his chest with a radish-like finger. The congealed scab burst open, and blood flowed freely.

"what--"

A sharp pain shot through him, and Wang Yun couldn't help but groan.

"They're alive!" a cold, harsh voice said, its tone full of dissatisfaction. "A bunch of useless trash! It's one thing to not be able to find the item, but can't you even tell the difference between dead and alive?"

“Boss, he really wasn’t breathing just now…” a somewhat high-pitched voice whispered in defense.

With a thud, a figure tumbled awkwardly on the ground, his leather hat flying off, revealing a head of messy, wine-red hair and a pointed head.

"You mean he came back to life? Do you think I'm a pig?" What followed was a furious outburst of curses and whipping, interspersed with pleas for mercy and various obscure slang terms. The other man was equally incredulous, hesitating several times to speak, but dared not utter a sound because of his boss's rage.

Wang Yun, who was standing to the side, had no time to watch the excitement. The other person's language was both strange and familiar, like a key that unlocked the door to a long-sealed memory. A massive amount of information exploded in his brain, causing swelling, pain, and then boundless darkness.

"Boss, he... seems to be..." the subordinate nervously reminded him.

The tall, muscular man strode over, carefully placing his fingers on the side of Wang Yun's neck, listening intently.

A few seconds later, the man breathed a sigh of relief. "He's alright, he must have just passed out."

He looked at the blood scabs mixed with ice and snow on Wang Yun's body and instructed, "Joe, go start a fire and cook. York, give him a cotton coat. It'll be dark soon, and he won't feel the pain when he's frozen. We must succeed tonight; those law enforcement officers have their eyes on us."

"Yes……"

…………

Wang Yun's drowsy mind slowly cleared, and the throbbing pain subsided, but his mood did not improve as a result.

'I've traveled through time.' He was absolutely certain.

The original owner's name was Roland Hohenzollern Otto, 21 years old this year. He lived in Glacier Town, the northernmost part of the Sid Empire, and made a living by selling fish and charcoal. He had a group of abandoned or orphanage children under his command, who were jokingly called the Wild Dog Gang.

Everything here is different from Earth: language, culture, race, astronomy, time... completely different. In addition, there is a group known as the Extraordinary.

At least that's how Roland remembers it.

Roland's great-great-grandfather received the Order of Thorns from the Empire for his military achievements, thus stepping into the ranks of nobility and becoming a knight. Unfortunately, the title was for life, could not be inherited, and had no fiefdom; all that was left to his descendants was the family name "Otto".

He was kidnapped because someone wanted the Thorn Medal that his father had passed down to him, a decoration that he considered to be of little use.

He recognized the men who tortured him; they were all from the White Bear Labor Service Company in Ice River Town—a group of scoundrels who profited from human suffering under the guise of legality.

The two sides had a long-standing feud, but Roland was never one to suffer losses. He was ruthless, a skilled fighter, and held grudges, so White Bear Labor Service Company had long since backed down. This time, his old rival's sudden sneak attack caught him off guard, and coupled with his recent bouts of inexplicable nightmares that had weakened his body, he finally suffered a setback.

But the original owner of this body was a tough nut to crack; he was beaten for a whole day and night without ever giving in, until he was beaten to death. If Wang Yun hadn't transmigrated, Roland would most likely be dead by now.

'But I can't take a beating, I'm even afraid of getting a shot.' Wang Yun was in a state of utter confusion.

While it's hard to accept that you can time travel just by sleeping, it's far less tragic than being tortured to death.

'What should I do, what should I do...' Wang Yun forced himself to calm down.

He couldn't keep pretending to be unconscious forever; perhaps in a few dozen seconds, those thugs would force him to "turn on," leaving him with little time.

The scattered thoughts began to coalesce, various ideas surfaced in the mind, and were then rejected.

In his haste, Wang Yun suddenly felt an inexplicable force pulling him in, the more he tried to trace its origin, the stronger the attraction became. Overjoyed, he decided to stop resisting.

The next moment, the world spun around him, and he felt lightheaded, being pulled all the way up into the deep space. The sights were bizarre and dazzling, and occasionally, terrifying and grotesque things would flash by.

Faint whispers drifted into my ears, like prayers or murmurs in a dream, disturbing my peace of mind.

He didn't know how much time had passed before he was dragged into a giant bubble suspended in the void. As soon as he squeezed into the transparent membrane, he saw a huge floating platform, square and grid-like, with several jagged cracks making it look dilapidated.

A colorful, hollowed-out sphere floated above the platform, constantly changing shape under Wang Yun's gaze.

'This is…' Wang Yun felt so familiar with this place, and a smile unconsciously appeared on his lips.

Wang Yun.
