Chapter 57 Hunting Camp

Chapter 57 Hunting Camp
“Uh…” Roland didn’t expect him to pull this stunt. It seems that Caius really has encountered a problem, which is very likely related to him.

"No, I am merely a guide, my powers are limited." With that, he waved his hand, creating a barrier to separate the two. "If you have any problems, you can tell me, and I can offer some advice. Don't worry, no one else can hear you."

Caius, head bowed and face contorted with grief, said, "I'm going to die. Our boss made me take the blame, but I didn't do it. Why am I always the one who gets the fall..."

His explanation was somewhat disorganized, and he was vague when it came to names, but Roland understood it immediately because the matter was indeed related to him.

The law enforcement agency pressured Caius's boss to hand over the kidnapper, but the killer, "Third Brother," was from the same hometown as the boss and had a close relationship with him. Therefore, they asked Caius to take the blame and promised to take care of his family and offer him a reward after his release from prison.

Roland felt gloomy, and his impression of the law enforcement agency and Mark plummeted.

Whether the kidnapping was orchestrated by White Bear or carried out by his subordinates on their own, White Bear cannot remain uninvolved. Mark knew this, yet he still made White Bear "voluntarily" hand over the murderer, clearly helping the other party escape punishment and finding a scapegoat to silence public opinion.

'With law enforcement officers like these, it's no wonder the Spirit Realm can't function well.'

He looked at Caius, pondering how to subtly guide him.

He hadn't studied law, but he knew that kidnapping and attempted murder were not minor offenses, carrying a minimum sentence of five or ten years, and twenty years was not out of the question. Caius was already 31, and after spending several years in a harsh prison, whether he would even get out was uncertain.

"Once you're in prison, your life and death are no longer in your own hands."

“I know. I said I needed to deal with family matters and used that as an excuse to hide, but the deadline is the day after tomorrow. I can’t run away now.” Caius’s tone was tinged with despair.

In the past, he would probably have accepted his fate. But his status as the "chosen one" raised his expectations of himself to an unprecedented level, so how could he willingly be controlled by others?

"What are you going to do?"

“I’ve had enough. I’m going to tell the kidnapper the truth. With that person’s personality, there’s no way he’ll accept someone taking the blame. I won’t live, and that fat pig won’t get away with it either.” Caius gritted his teeth, his expression ferocious.

"Your boss is an extraordinary being? Which extraordinary path, and what sequence level?"

"He seems to be an Extraordinary being with the Gluttony pathway. I don't know his exact sequence level, but it should be a low sequence. He once said that if we could advance to the middle sequence, he would take us to the capital to enjoy a life of luxury..." White Bear had been using Extraordinary status to tempt his subordinates, and Caius knew a little about it.

"The consequences of betrayal are dire. Since that's the case, why don't you try to team up with the other side to take down your boss? If all else fails, running away is better than waiting to die. You are the chosen one; as long as you're alive, there's hope," Roland said meaningfully.

Caius's expression shifted slightly, and he murmured repeatedly, "As long as there is life, there is hope."

The others stood around curiously. They couldn't hear the sound or see the expressions, but they could tell from the hunter's body language that he was having a problem. Their curiosity was burning like a hundred claws.

"Think about it, are you still going to participate in today's match?" Roland didn't say anything more to avoid arousing suspicion.

“I will participate,” Caius said firmly.

Roland released the seal and gestured to the others: "Get ready, let's begin today's battle."

Since everyone's condition has not yet recovered, only two games were played today, with Knight and Er Gou covering the costs respectively, resulting in a profit of 28 Spiritual Glimmers, of which Drake alone contributed 16.

Everyone left one after another, leaving only Drake and the two wolves playing around on the platform.

'We still need extraordinary individuals; the difference is eightfold!'

Roland stroked his chin, gazing down at the endless sky, his eyes flickering uncertainly.

…………

The next day, as Roland was on his way to Taipei, a newsboy ran up to him and shoved a newspaper into his hand.

"Brother Roland, here's one for you."

“Okay, here’s your money, Jim.” He had barely taken out a penny when the little guy had already run off.

He shook his head helplessly. Many of the newsboys were orphans and had received help from the original owner of the body.

He casually flipped open the newspaper, and the front page headline read, "Bishop of the Church of the Lord of Order Suspected of Murdering Descendant of a Meritorious Official; Enforcement Agency Solve Case in One Day with Efficient Action." 'So efficient?' He stopped by the roadside and carefully read the article. The content was very brief, omitting any mention of anything extraordinary. The crime scene was Glacier Town, the protagonist was the Enforcement Agency, and Roland's name was never mentioned, only referred to as a descendant of a meritorious official.

Roland didn't want to be famous, but he admired the shameless spirit of the law enforcement agency. They were just there to collect corpses and sweep the floor, but they transformed themselves into champions of justice.

Snap, snap, snap—a series of hurried footsteps approached. He turned to look and saw a young law enforcement officer with his hat brim pulled low, approaching with a gloomy expression.

"Who upset you again?" Roland teased.

Hughes remained silent, his face grim, and slapped a thick brown paper envelope against his chest.

The envelope had no wax seal or stamp. When Roland opened it, he found a stack of bright green banknotes inside, with a letter next to it.

He pulled out the letter, unfolded it, and saw the word "commendation" written in large characters at the top. The letter thanked Roland Hohenzollern Otto for his assistance in the murder case, and awarded him a moral encouragement and a material reward of 100 German dollars. The letter also had the seal of the Grantham Law Enforcement Agency and the signature of the director at the end.

"Wow! Quite generous," Roland laughed. Wanted criminals with bounties exceeding 100 German dollars are all major offenders, so it's quite remarkable that the law enforcement agency could come up with that much money at once.

Without a doubt, this money was hush money, and perhaps even compensation for taking the [Silent Coffin], to keep him from talking nonsense and ruining the image of the enforcer. No wonder Hughes looked so grim.

“There’s also 150 German dollars inside, which is compensation from the Church of the Lord of Order. Director Mark gave it to me personally, so no one should have embezzled it,” Hughes explained in a low voice.

"No letter?" Roland asked in confusion. The money had already been given; the church couldn't possibly have remained silent.

“No.” Hughes shook his head. “The director didn’t give it to me.”

“It’s a win-win situation, I think.” Roland put the letter of commendation back in his pocket, along with the envelope.

He genuinely didn't care. He was already well aware of the shamelessness of the law enforcement agency, and that offering money was already quite generous. If it were an ordinary person without any connections, they probably wouldn't have shown such "sincerity."

“If I tell you something else, you probably won’t be so calm,” Hughes said, pulling him into a nearby alley.

"polar bear?"

"You know?" Hughes looked surprised, his tone tinged with resentment. "I just heard about it. Ordering the murderer to hand over the murderer is unheard of."

"That just means you haven't experienced enough, young man." In his previous life, Roland loved watching Zhang San's legal education videos; there were far more outrageous cases than this.

Hughes stared at him strangely: "Aren't you angry?"

"Will getting angry solve anything?" Roland said with a smile. "Why don't you tell me where the polar bear lives, and I'll send Black Wolf to steal his eggs."

Hughes rolled his eyes at him, then solemnly instructed, "I asked the deputy director to review White Bear's file. He's a low-sequence extraordinary individual, the kind who's extremely skilled in combat. Your Black Wolf might not be able to beat him. He's not in Ice River Town recently; he's supposedly checking on the progress at the Winter Hunting Camp, paving the way for the nobles in the capital."

"Where is the winter hunting camp? Isn't he just a handyman? Why is it so big?" Roland asked, puzzled.

"The hunting camp was built under the leadership of the Northern Merchant Guild and is open to all hunters. The White Bear Labor Company is responsible for the transportation of manpower and supplies. It is said to be at least fifty or sixty kilometers away from the town, but I don't know exactly where it is..." Hughes recalled.

“This winter hunt is huge! If I weren’t injured, I would love to join in,” Roland said, half-jokingly.

"You should focus on recovering from your injuries first. I've heard that the Rose Cross Pharmacy is quite powerful, so make the most of this opportunity," Hughes advised.

"Yes, I'm on my way to the pharmacy."

"Then you go ahead and do your work."

As Hughes walked away, Roland turned and headed towards North City, but one thought kept lingering in his mind.
