Chapter 60 Frozen Canyon

Chapter 60 Frozen Canyon
Caius brought out four henchmen, one dead and one wounded. The remaining two were too slow, so Roland had to ask Kiley and Fred to help.

The body was buried on the spot, and physical characteristics and wounds were destroyed as much as possible. All valuable spoils were put into a large backpack.

Roland quickly rummaged through the items, took out two revolvers, bullets, and a wallet, and stuffed them into his backpack, leaving the rest to Caius.

"If Polar Bear dies, can you take over Polar Bear Labor Service Company?"

Caius paused, then shook his head decisively: "No, White Bear operates through the upper echelons; the most lucrative mining business relies entirely on military connections."

“If someone investigates this, do you know what to say?” Roland looked at him meaningfully.

“I understand. I’ll go back and spread the word that White Bear is going to use me as a scapegoat. I’m not having it, and there’s going to be internal strife in the company…” Caius was already prepared. He knew that whether he stayed or left, he would have to take the blame.

He realized that Roland was completely different from the rumors. Even if the authorities didn't usually interfere in gang infighting, so what if he were arrested? It was still better than falling into his hands.

Roland smiled without saying a word; he wasn't afraid of the other party's ulterior motives. The legal system of the Sid Empire was rotten to the core; only strength could earn respect.

He adjusted the sled ropes, personally put the two wolves on, placed the backpack on the sled, and then gestured for Caius to sit down as well: "Get ready to go, I'll take the helm."

Caius took the pole and obediently sat down in front.

Roland checked the rudder and, after confirming there were no problems, took his position, gave a whistle, and the two wolves slowly began to exert force, the sled going faster and faster, stirring up a blizzard.

Caius gripped the sled tightly, afraid of being thrown off. The fierce, cold wind lashed at his face, making it impossible to open his eyes. All he could hear was the howling wind. For the first time, he understood what it meant to travel at lightning speed.

The two wolves and Roland were of one mind and worked together seamlessly. Although the sled was very fast, it was not difficult to control.

The sled sped northward, passing the sawmill billowing with black smoke in just half an hour. Keep in mind that the two places are at least seventeen Delhi apart, and this speed left Caius speechless.

The terrain north of the sawmill is no longer flat, with occasional woodlands and hills. The further north you go, the more undulating the terrain becomes, and after another twenty Delhi, you will enter the forest.

"Where to?" Roland slowed down and shouted to Caius.

Caius, who was sitting back on the sled, stood up upon hearing this, observed for a moment, and then pointed to the right front, saying, "Northeast, enter the forest from the foot of Mount Nissus, pass through a forest and frozen canyon of more than ten Delhi, and you'll arrive in a few more Delhi..."

Roland nodded, and the two wolves slightly adjusted their direction, continuing to fly northeast. Both wolves possessed keen senses and would avoid hunters at a distance, choosing secluded areas whenever possible.

Once inside the mountains, this problem was solved, as very few people ventured there. However, the mountains were difficult to traverse, forcing Roland to slow down to avoid an accident.

The journey through the mountains and forests of Delhi took longer than before. More than an hour later, he still hadn't seen the canyon. Just as he was about to ask, the view suddenly opened up before him.

The mountains rise on both sides, and in the middle is a canyon nearly ten miles wide. There are no trees, and the mountains and canyons are completely covered with ice, reflecting the afterglow of the setting sun, turning it into a golden expanse, which is very spectacular.

'No wonder it's called Frozen Canyon,' Roland sighed.

The sled suddenly picked up speed, and he stared curiously at the ice beneath his feet: 'Could there be a lake below? Are there any giant monsters?'

Thinking about it that way, it's actually a bit creepy.

The canyon was short, and there were no people in sight. After passing through it, there was another forest. The trees were sparse but exceptionally tall, with giant trees over 100 meters tall everywhere. Their bark and branches were dark brown.

This time, there was no need for directions. There were simple road signs outside the canyon, which looked like they had just been erected. There was a small flag stuck in a tree next to it, which should be the flag of the Northern Merchant Guild. He had seen it in Ice River Town.

'This is a really big spender.'

From the perspective of the entire snowfield, this place is still on the edge, but the environment is harsh and very few humans venture here. It must have cost a great deal of money to set up a camp here.

The two wolves avoided human tracks, circling far away, and stopped in a secluded spot south of the camp, from which the camp hidden in the giant forest could be vaguely seen. Roland put the wolves away to avoid being seen: "Do you know anything about the camp? Where does the polar bear live?"

“I know a little.” Caius nodded slightly. “The camp is several hundred meters in diameter. The small buildings and treehouses in the middle were prepared for members of the merchant guild and nobles from the capital. Most of them are empty.”

The laborers and hunters are all on the outskirts; the laborers will leave in a few days. The polar bear lives on the southernmost side, next to the warehouse and game processing plant; he makes a living selling supplies and buying game scraps…”

"Are the Northern Merchant Guild members here too?" Roland asked thoughtfully. A place like this couldn't possibly be without security; otherwise, it would become a giant beast buffet in no time.

“Yes, there is a dedicated escort team. It’s open to all hunters and merchants free of charge, but the Northern Merchants have priority in purchasing,” Caius added.

It was getting dark. Roland took out his pocket watch. It was almost seven o'clock. They had been traveling for more than three hours and it was about to get dark.

"We must find a way to lure him out," Roland pondered.

The Northern Merchant Guild has a long history, covers the three northern counties, and has always had a good reputation. It's best not to offend them if possible, and it's not advisable to go to their door to kill them.

“I’ll give it a try,” Caius said in a deep voice, taking a deep breath.

"what do you say?"

"Just say that something happened in Ice River Town, that the third brother died, and ask him to go back and take charge of the situation."

“That excuse is too stupid.” Roland shook his head slightly. “You are to be forcibly transferred to the law enforcement agency tomorrow, and you suddenly appear at the hunting camp today, still thinking about him, the boss?”

"So, you disguise yourself, show up at the hunting camp, pretend to be recognized by his confidants by accident, and then keep running south."

“Okay.” Caius readily accepted, feeling that this method would avoid directly confronting the polar bear and increase the survival rate.

"Wait a minute, take this." Roland thought this man was still useful, so he took a captured revolver and six bullets from his backpack and tossed them to Caius. The model of the pistol was unknown; it was probably a homemade version.

"Okay." Caius was delighted, hid his pistol, and turned to run towards the distant camp.

Once Caius disappeared, Roland hoisted the sled, found a corner to bury it in the snow, and then waved his hand to summon Drake.

A figure traversed an unknown dimension, anchored by Roland's soul, and landed in the real world out of thin air. But the instant Drake appeared, Roland's soul seemed to be subjected to gravity, heavy and making his breathing heavier.

He understood; this was the price of summoning spirit beings. Mark hadn't lied to him. Fortunately, he only had to support one person, so the impact on him wasn't significant.

"Where am I? It's so cold." The temperature changed abruptly, and Drake couldn't help but shiver.

“Even spirit creatures are afraid of the cold.” Roland took out a cloak he had prepared beforehand and tossed it to him. Drake’s physique was amazing; a thick cloak should be enough to keep him warm.

“Nonsense, we just have higher resistance and fewer fatal weaknesses, otherwise we're pretty much the same as humans.” Drake pulled his cloak tighter, and after a little movement, he adapted to the environment. He glanced around, his brow furrowed. “I hate it here.”

"Take your time to adjust." Roland told him the action plan; he would be the main force in a while.

"The initiative in the battle is in our hands. Whether we fight or not, when we fight, and if things don't look good, we'll retreat," he carefully instructed, afraid that Drake might risk his life.

"Understood." Drake smiled broadly, his spirits soaring whenever the topic of battle came up.

"Walk."
