Chapter 98 Carmen
Chapter 98 Carmen
As they approach each other, the two wolves, being faster, will likely quickly overtake each other after a brief encounter.
"Hey--"
On the back of a snowmobile, a young man was shouting and waving his hands.
Roland's gaze narrowed slightly. According to his senses, all four of them were extraordinary individuals. Extraordinary individuals were rare to begin with, and to encounter four of them so soon after stepping out into the vast snowfield felt too much of a coincidence.
The fact that the opponent not only wasn't afraid of the two wolves but dared to approach them suggests they have something to rely on.
"Hey friend, slow down. Are you from Ice River Town?" The young man's voice was ethereal and could be heard clearly even from dozens of meters away.
Roland squinted, remaining silent. Evan and the others huddled in the sled, turning to look at Roland.
“We mean no harm. I am a nobleman from Carmen, and my name is Percy.” The young man took off his hat, revealing a head of short, wine-red hair.
Roland slowed the two wolves down, but did not stop them. The sled and snowmobile met and raced side by side along the Frost River.
"What is it?" His voice was cold, and his sharply defined features were expressionless.
"Uh, hello."
Only then did Bosie notice that Roland was dressed lightly, without a hat or mask, standing against the wind, exuding a cold aura, his features deep and angular as if carved by a knife. He couldn't help but click his tongue in surprise; if the noblewomen of the capital saw this, they would go crazy.
Moreover, the other party had a ruddy complexion and seemed unfazed by the cold, indicating considerable strength. In this vast snowfield, if the other party harbored any ill intentions, he feared he wouldn't be able to escape. Thinking of this, he felt a vague sense of regret.
The two guards driving the carriage looked on warily and silently increased the distance between them.
"I'll be going if there's nothing else." Roland had no idea that the other person was thinking so much. This red-haired young man had a romantic air about him, but he was a bit dull and didn't say anything for a long time.
"Wait, are you from Ice River Town? Has the winter hunt started yet?" Percy asked hurriedly.
"It hasn't started yet. The winter hunt will last for several weeks. If you want to participate, there's still time." Roland's expression softened a bit. He felt that as the security consultant for the Northern Merchant Guild, it was necessary for him to bring in a wave of potential clients for the branch.
"Is it cold over there? How does it compare to Grantham?" Percy asked, putting on his hat and hunching his shoulders.
Roland gave him a strange look, never expecting the other to ask such a question: "It's alright. The winter hunting camp is fifty or sixty miles north of Ice River Town, where it can get as cold as minus forty or fifty degrees Celsius."
"Oh, never mind then." Percy's lips twitched down, and he hugged his arms tightly.
Roland looked at him strangely. Carmen was in Galveston County, at least a thousand or two kilometers away. It was hard to understand why they would come all this way only to turn back because of the cold weather.
Percy glanced around twice, his gaze settling on the two wolves. He tentatively asked, "Excuse me, are your black wolves a unique species found only in the North?"
“No.” Roland glanced at him and said calmly.
Outwardly, the two wolves are not much different from extraordinary creatures, and most extraordinary beings cannot tell the difference between the two unless a battle occurs or an offensive spiritual investigation is conducted.
"If I may ask, are you willing to sell your Black Wolf? I'd be happy to trade these two steam snowmobiles for it." Percy had a sly smile on his face, looking rather smug.
"It is indeed very presumptuous of me."
Kiley and Freddie turned around, glared at Percy, and instantly sped up, leaving the snowmobile behind in no time.
After the sled had gone far away, the guard on the sled turned to look at Percy with a serious expression: "Young master, you must not be so reckless in the future. This is not Carmen. There are corpses everywhere under the snowfield."
“I don’t think he’s a bad person,” Percy argued.
“I think so too.” A soft female voice came from another steam snowmobile.
"Another feeling?!" The middle-aged guard felt his head spin instantly. "So your sudden return was also based on a feeling?"
“Of course, I have a bad feeling that it’s better not to participate in this winter hunt.” Percy said as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
"Then where are we going now?"
“Back to Grantham, I’m hungry. How about we have some local specialties first…” Percy looked expectant.
…………
Half an hour passed.
The dark walls of Grantham came into view, and the sled slowed down, heading towards the west gate.
Like Glacier Town, Grantham's walls are also historical relics, only taller and more intact. It is much safer than Glacier Town, so the city gates are rarely closed.
Tens of thousands of people live here, surrounded by many villages, factories, and mines. The education system is well-developed, and the temperature is below zero year-round, but much better than in Ice River Town. It was nearing evening, and there were quite a few people around, both going in and out of town, their steps hurried.
Roland instructed the two wolves to conceal their strange behavior as much as possible so as not to frighten passersby, and they quietly entered the city through the west gate.
Passing through the city gate, the view suddenly opened up, revealing a wide road and fairly neat houses on both sides.
Evan and his companions brushed the ice and snow off their clothes, stood up, and curiously looked around at this city they had never seen before.
Wow, there are so many people...
"That building is so tall, at least twenty yards..."
"That tower over there is even taller, and it has a huge gem on top..."
"That's crystal, isn't it...?"
"..."
Roland took the main road, which was wide and had a stained stone slab in the middle and special sled tracks on both sides.
Two law enforcement officers rushed over, their eyes darting between the two wolves and Roland's waist, their gazes wary. They didn't check just anyone, of course, but Roland carrying a dangerous creature was definitely someone they wanted to question.
"How should I address you, sir? Would you mind showing me your identification?" the young law enforcement officer in the lead asked politely after bowing.
Roland handed him his identification, security advisor credentials, and gun license together: "Roland Hohenzollern Otto, from Glacier Town."
The young law enforcement officer's expression relaxed. After a quick glance at the documents, he handed them back to Roland with both hands, a slight smile playing on his lips.
"Welcome, Mr. Otto. Please keep your wolf under control. For accommodation and meals, we recommend Tinker Street in the city center. Please contact us anytime if there are any disputes."
"Okay." Roland casually put away the documents.
The fact that the law enforcement officers didn't make things difficult for him doesn't mean they were of high quality. Roland was clearly an extraordinary individual, a local, had a surname, carried a gun, and had a sensitive identity; most people wouldn't dare to mess with him.
The further you go into the city center, the taller the buildings become, with numerous shops, churches, and government institutions; you can even see two or three banks.
Roland was somewhat disappointed. Grantham was just a bit bigger, with more buildings and more people. There were no trains or steam locomotives in sight, and reindeer carts were still the main mode of transport. It still looked like an old-fashioned medieval town.
He looked up at the tower in the city center, tens of meters high, with smooth, mirror-like cylindrical walls that were thicker at the bottom and thinner at the top. A crystal ball taller than a person was embedded in the top, reflecting the afterglow of the setting sun, giving it a rather magical feel.
"Isn't it amazing? That's the Sage's Tower, which is said to have stood for thousands of years," Percy whispered as he approached, explaining with great enthusiasm.
"You're quick to catch up." Roland had already noticed that the other person was trailing behind and had caught up quickly after entering the city. His intentions were unclear, so he couldn't very well chase him away.
“I don’t want to buy wolves, let’s be friends. I know Tinker Street well, the best hotel is called Galanz, shall I take you there?” Percy walked quickly beside the sled, followed by a girl and two sleds.
Roland remained noncommittal. This was the first time he had encountered such an overly familiar person since his transmigration, and he wondered if it was an act. If not, what kind of comfortable environment could produce such a person?
"My name is Percy Carmen Caran. How shall I address you, brother?" Percy introduced himself with a warm smile that made him hard to dislike.
"Roland." After saying that, Roland couldn't help but pause for a moment. It was completely subconscious, as if he should have told the other person.
He gave Bosie a strange look a few times. Was this the legendary "extraordinary charm" that made people unconsciously lower their guard and be willing to get close to him?
"Brother." The girl behind him called out softly, with a hint of reproach in her voice.
"Oh, oh," Percy exclaimed, quickly pointing to the girl, "This is my sister Annabeth."
"Hello, Mr. Roland."
Annabeth took off her hat, and her beautiful, wine-red hair cascaded down like a waterfall. Her face was slightly flushed, and she wore a sweet smile. Her ruby-like eyes were as passionate as flames.
"Hmm, hello," Roland replied indifferently.
He always felt that the two siblings were not quite normal, but he couldn't quite put his finger on what the problem was.
At this moment, a strange rhythm emanated from the spirit world chessboard.
Roland understood. The rune seed had been digested, and a new abnormal mutation had appeared. He wondered if there would be any surprises this time.
As night fell, he urged the two wolves to quicken their pace, as he needed to resolve the issue of food and lodging as soon as possible.
